Wild West Succubus: The Blog Tour

Wild West Succubus
Lila Shaw
Erotic Romance with a Splash of Humor

Blurb:
A woman damned…
Priscilla Goodnight, a widow in the harsh Kansas frontier, has a cattle ranch to run. She can’t afford to reveal any cracks in her tough exterior or indulge in sexual liaisons with her ranch hands. But a hungry succubus can only exercise so much self-restraint, making discretion, disguise and memory-wiping her top managerial skills.
The mysterious stranger who knows her darkest secret…
Priscilla doesn't remember hiring the man with the wily smile and the flannel voice. At all. Men as physically appealing as Hugo Desmond rarely escape her bed, let alone her memory. And how is he able to move so fast, yet nobody notices but her?
Is she his target, his mission or his bait?
Hugo is a gargoyle—a specially-trained executioner—sent to purge the west of evil. With succubi falling squarely in demon territory, Priscilla has every reason to fear him … yet she can't stay away. Hugo says he needs her help and wants to save her soul. But is redemption possible for a woman as wicked as Priscilla, or will love thaw her heart just enough for Hugo to crush it?

Excerpt:
A few of the men are laughing and eating breakfast, but as soon as I walk in, they grow silent … mostly.
“Morning, Miss Priscilla. Did you sleep well?” Fred asks, his last words ending with a snicker.
Most of the other men snicker too, all but Hugo, that is. He probably doesn’t know the rest well enough to be privy to their secrets.
Jesse slaps Gray on the back and Gray grins. Speaking through a mouth full of half-chewed biscuits, Gray says, “I slept like a titty baby myself.”
The others snort back their laughter. Hugo’s forehead furrows as he glances around the table.
I sigh. I don’t know why I expected better from Gray. But little boys must be taught their lessons, and the first one is don’t fuck with a succubus who holds your soul in hock.
After giving each man a smile in turn, I close my eyes and yank on Gray’s tether. He keels over and falls face first into the puddle of gravy on his plate.
“What the … Gray?” Jesse lifts Gray’s face from the plate and shoves him back against his chair, wide-eyed but unseeing. Mr. Yao’s savory sauce drips in long slimy strings from Gray’s nose. “Gray?” Jesse slaps Gray on the face a few times.
Gray isn’t home anymore. I slurp the last bits of his soul’s life-force in and breathe deeply as it spreads throughout every inch of my body. I am energized, immortal, powerful, and pissed off.
Hugo skewers me with his gaze, cold and hard. “Are you sure you want to do that? May raise more questions than it solves.”
What the hell is he talking about? Fuck him! Fuck all of them!
One by one, starting with Jesse, I lock gazes with each man around the table. As I ransack their recent memories, their expressions transform from mirth to horror to incoherent. The two newer hands I’ve never had to mind-wipe before—Winston and Jasper—fall asleep. The older hands will slowly regain their wits with what have been called devilishly hideous headaches. If any of them think they can take to their beds sick today, they’re dead wrong.
Hugo watches the entire proceedings, and when I get to him, my last target, he presses his lips into a thin line and resists my trespass into his mind. Those glacial blue eyes of his frost over and then seal shut, expelling me and slamming the door in my face.
How the hell is he able to do that?
With a snap of Hugo’s fingers, all motion, except his and mine, ceases. The clock stops ticking. A napkin casually tossed hovers an inch above the table’s surface. Mouths are frozen mid-word. Arms float rigidly in the air, and eyes stare blankly.
“Think, Pris,” Hugo repeats. His jaw is rigid, and his hands are curled into fists.
I stop trying to force my way inside Hugo’s mind. “Wh-what’s going on?” I wave a hand in front of Fred’s face, nearly threatening to put his eye out, but he doesn’t flinch, doesn’t even blink. I shove my chair away from the table and jump to my feet. “What kind of sorcery is this?”
Hugo slowly raises his eyes to mine. In measured words he says, “Give Gray back his soul.”
“I need it.”
“No.” He shakes his head. “You don’t.”
“He deserved what he got!”
“No. He didn’t. All you needed to do was mind-wipe him, just like the others. Sucking him dry is excessive. You don’t have to go that far. Besides that, we’re kinda short-handed. Do you really want to fall behind this time of year? Think about how hard it will be to find a replacement.”
The horror of this man’s cognizance of what I am grips me. “Who are you? What are you?” I take a few steps back, wondering if I should flee.
He lifts his eyes to mine. “I’m someone you should be very afraid of.”
“Afraid? Of you?” I throw my head back and laugh dramatically, just like those ladies on the stage. “Oh, little big man. I’m not afraid of any man.” But I am afraid of this one.

Ten Facts I Learned Researching Wild West Succubus:
One of the reasons I don't often write historicals is because I'm lazy.
There. I said it, confessed my sin.
You're probably slapping your head thinking, "This doesn't seem like a good way to convince me to give your book a shot." I would be thinking that too.
But the reason I share my terrible confession is because I believe if you're going to write a historical, make sure you do your homework.
Be mindful of what you can and can't use or reference in your story--figures of speech, clothing worn, density of the population and distances, flora and fauna indigenous to your setting, events in the world around the characters at that time and what their history books would have said.
That's tough to do, but necessary for anyone attempting a historical. I really wanted to write a western, however, so I rolled up my sleeves and dug in and learned a few facts it the process.
Here are my top ten:
1.                  Kansas is indeed flat and open, but there are also parts that are forested and have rock outcroppings and rivers. Mostly in the north and northeast.
2.                  Mountain lions are extremely rare in modern day Kansas but in the 1800's there were a lot more. Farmers and ranchers decimated the large cat population in the late 1800's, early 1900's.
3.                  No boxers or briefs in 1869 Kansas. Men most likely wore no underwear at all or wore union suits, patented in NY in 1868.
4.                  For women, the tiny waist was in style during the 1860's, but I seriously doubt my heroine, Priscilla, ever wore a corset. If she did, she would not have laced it tightly.
5.                  Kansas became the 34th state in 1861.
6.                  Abilene, Kansas was a popular cattle market and the end point for the Chisholm Trail, which began in Texas and was used between 1867 and 1884.
7.                  Priscilla's last name by marriage is Goodnight, taken from the famous Charles Goodnight of the Goodnight-Loving Trail fame.
8.                  Popular slang during that period included terms like, "Get a wiggle on" for hurry up, and "flannel mouth" for a smooth-talker.
9.                  Bram Stoker's Dracula wasn't written until 1897 so Priscilla would not have heard of the gent, though vampire legends are much older.
10.              Meals on cattle droves most likely consisted of beans seasoned with meat prepared by the cook who rode ahead with the chuck wagon. Vitamin C deficiencies were common and popcorn was a popular treat.

While I would never claim to be an expert on 1869 Kansas, far from it, I hope I added a little authenticity to Wild West Succubus.

Succubus Steam: Hot Steampunk from Lila Shaw

Succubus Steam (The Succubus Chronicles)

From Evernight's Romance on the Go line:

A succubus half-breed, such as Violet, who hobnobs with the highest echelons of Victorian London society, is a bride in a difficult marriage of extremes. Any act that wants of propriety, and she would find herself banished to the wilds of Cornwall where her full-blooded succubus sisters live and thrive. Yet she prefers the company of mortals, even if she must occasionally risk her reputation by engaging in discreet sexual liaisons.

When Violet’s great uncle dies and bequeaths her his laboratory and home, she crafts an artificially intelligent automaton named Adam to sate her carnal needs. Her plan is coming along nicely until an incubus from her past, and the unwitting model for her invention, discovers her secret. Violet has good reason to be wary of losing her heart to Lyle, but perhaps Adam is the key to fulfilling all of her desires.

Oh my gosh! This is the hottest steam punk story ever! Having an automaton to give you any kind of pleasure...ummm. Delightful story! As usual Lila Shaw is in top form. This is indeed the best of her Succubus stories to date and I couldn't put it down.

When Violet builds Adam to help her keep her half succubus inclinations under control, she has a wonderful new toy that bears a striking resemblance to Lyle, a very sexy incubus that just might drain her dry if she gave in to his advances. Could Adam be the key to surrendering to her deepest fantasies? Read this one to find out.

The Dom With A Safeword

The Dom with a Safeword (Badass Brats, #1)

Late at night, on an amateur ghost hunt, Sabrina and her best friend Q are caught trespassing by the gorgeous, blonde Jude. The embers of attraction between them sizzle when they discover Jude’s kinks match their own.

Jude is a Dom on his last summer of freedom before starting the prison sentence that is med school. Q is a bad-ass bi switch who knows what she wants, and for years it’s been her cute, doe-eyed straight friend Sabrina. But the only way into Sabrina’s heart and panties may be with Jude’s fist wrapped in her hair.

Domming the bratty Q and mischievous Sabrina isn't going to be easy but Jude relishes the challenge. At the end of the summer, will they find a way to stay together when everything is tearing them apart?

What do you get when you have a ghost hunter and her best friend trying to investigate a haunted house, only to find a hunky guy in residence instead? You get a threesome that will have you reaching for the ice water and going back for more.

The dynamics of this book are stellar. You have a Q who is a rebel with a questionable cause, Sabrina the girlie girl who is questioning her sexuality and Jude, the Dom who is about to leave for med school. There are some very intense scenes with Q and Sabrina that will have f/f enthusiasts thrilled. The three of them together in a menage is hot enough to fry an e-book page. Add in some paranormal activity and you have yourself a story that will keep you up nights. Excellent read!

I can't wait to read more of Jude, Q and Sabrina!

Vanilla Free Christmas and The Session by Lila Shaw

This Christmas, the best gifts are waiting for those who have been naughty…

And the toys under the tree are not for children. Sexy Santas, naughty elves, and dominant shifters are ready to spread some very kinky Christmas cheer. It's a good thing the ladies in our stories are looking for anything but vanilla.

So I have a little holiday treat for you today. Lila Shaw has popped by the blog with a tempting little morsel that relates to her story in the new and oh so naughty holiday anthology Vanilla Free Christmas. This wonderful book is warming my nights and I wanted to share this with you so you can get yourself a copy to get properly in the mood.

Amazon:

The Session:

Dr. Baskin's pen darts across the page recording the odd scraps as I talk about how my day at the office went. It's like we're in a fucked up fifties sitcom only her "honey, how was your day?" is more like, "tell me how many times you scraped up the courage to leave your desk today."

"Fantastic progress, Jonah. This new job seems to be agreeing with you, yes? Your anxiety has settled into the tolerable range?"

I nod and rub my itchy nose. She's staring at me, obviously wanting me to expand on my panic attacks or reduction thereof. It is true. I haven't had nearly as many since starting the new drugs and therapy. But what I can't and won't tell Dr. Baskin is I have a secret angel. Her name is Samantha, or Sam as she prefers. Dr. Baskin told me to find an anchor or focal point to help calm me, something predictable, logical and dependable. I wasn't supposed to pick a human being. I did anyway. I picked Sam.

It's a silly story, the how and why of Sam. I scarcely know myself other than when panic threatened to pull me down and drown me, one of her emails or instant messages would arrive, and somehow I'd find the strength to vanquish my demons. I always have to drop what I'm doing to answer Sam, you see. She is paramount. She is the sun I revolve around, the giver of light and warmth.

"Jonah? Are you listening to me?" Dr. Baskin asks.

"Hmm?"

"You've mentioned someone named Sam a couple of times. Is Sam a friend you've made at work?"

Shit. Figures she'd notice. I don't even remember saying her name. "Sam's a she." I shouldn't be so quick to correct the good doctor. She'll be like a dog on a scent now.

"Is she your girlfriend?" Her pen moves furiously over the page then hovers like a hummingbird.

"Sam works at my company." And this is true. Sam is my co-worker. She's five feet three inches of curves and softness and hopes of what might be...someday...if I can get better. I want to get better. I have to get better.

I also won't tell my doctor about the steamy instant message exchange we had yesterday, Sam and I, because last week I let slip how much into voyeurism and exhibitionism I am. I am a study in irony. I had given her a couple of live webcam sites to check out. That she actually watched them and was turned on by them had me hard before I finished reading her instant message. After her confession, we began chatting about the type of scene we'd broadcast. Just a joke at first...and then suddenly it wasn't.

"I'd want to be tied spread-eagle to the bed," she'd written. "Camera on my pussy, my arousal on display for the viewers."

Oh, when she wrote that, I slouched and shoved my hips further under my desk. No one was around; they'd all gone to lunch. I took myself in hand, typing awkwardly with the other. "That'd be enough to make most of the viewers come."

"What do you do?" she asked. How could she have known the beast she was unleashing?

"Assuming I can tear my eyes away from you, I shuttle my hand along my cock, pumping myself hard as a diamond as I zoom in closer with the camera on the canvas of your body. I tell you to close your eyes and keep them shut."

A noise in the hallway interrupted me before I could finish that thought.

Sam messaged back, "My eyes are shut. What do you do to me?" The cursor blinked begging me to respond.

My work area quiet again, I resumed typing. "Starting at the foot of the bed, I curl my hand around your instep and press soft kisses on the tops of your feet. Since I haven't shaved this morning, the scrape of stubble sweeps across the path as I slowly move up your calf. You laugh and tell me it tickles. When I get to the backside of your knee, I flick my tongue into the crease then blow hot air on the trail I leave. You shudder from the play of cool and warm on your skin. You reach down and, twisting your fingers in my hair, tug me higher. I can smell how much you want me and, oh Sam, it's driving me wild."

I took a moment to rub my hand over my erection and finding it hot and demanding, I continued disgorging my fantasy in instant messages.

"I raise up on my knees. You whimper because you think I'm done. I'm not; I've barely begun. Instead I say, 'I'm going to feast on your pussy and then I'm going to fuck you six ways to Sunday.'"

Sam types back. "And do you?"

"I work my way down from your still sealed eyelids and when I finally ease inside you, fill you to bursting, I whisper in your ear, my starlet, 'Open your eyes now, little lamb, and watch me as I come,' and you do, only you come as soon as they flicker open and you see the light on the webcam running quietly off to the side. You aren't a lamb at all but a minx and maybe even a slut. I think maybe I should show the viewers how naughty girls should be handled, but I don't. Not this time. But as I thrust deep and hard until I finally lose my fucking mind, I whisper a promise in your ear that next time I won't be so lenient."

I stopped there to give her a chance to respond. I hoped she was still with me, that I hadn't scared her off.

"I think I need to take a bathroom break before I leave a wet spot on my chair," she wrote.

I laughed and closed the chat window. A few minutes later she walked by the doorway to my department, her back stiff, thighs clamped together. Our eyes met as she passed and though I begged my legs to carry me to her, they refused. My heart pounded in my chest, equally aroused and terrified, but fear won the battle. Again.

I've relived that exchange so many times today. Perched awkwardly on a stiff, uncomfortable chair with my legs crossed to keep my wayward cock under control, I lift my eyes to meet Dr. Baskin's.

"No, she's just a co-worker," I repeat.

The Review:

Save your vanilla for those Christmas cookies because you won't need any for this holiday anthology. Full of naughty elves, sexy Santas, role playing holiday revelers and more, this collection of stories will keep you reading late into the night.

I can't say enough about this group of stories. All of them are great and in particular, Lila Shaw's The Man Inside has a sexy Santa that will have any woman swooning. Jonah is a man of mystery. Sam is both intrigued and a little scared of how he makes her feel. At the company Christmas party, the two will have an interlude so smoking hot you won't be able to put down your e-reader and will be reaching for an iced egg nog latte to quench the scorch. I loved reading "The Session" with Jonah fighting his urge to stay indoors and loved how he finds and seduces Sam. I will never look at a Santa suit quite the same way again. Hello naughty Christmas fetish!

5/5 for this story and the antho as a whole! Don't miss this little nibble in your e-book Christmas stocking. It's better than a chocolate covered candy cane.

Thanks Lila for being on the blog today and I hope you ladies are cooking up some more holiday magic for next year!

Succubus Games: The Review and Guest Post

Willow has had centuries in Sisyphus Prison to reinforce the hard-learned lesson that the jealous and capricious Greek gods are not to be trifled with. There are only two ways out, and both require Willow to compete in the annual gladiator match. The winner is freed while the loser marches straight to Tartarus to become one of Hades’ concubines. Willow plans to press all her succubus charms into service to gain the upper hand against her opponent…until she discovers who he is.

Helveticus is a demi-god with a devilish plan of his own to win his freedom, a plan that begins with the seduction of his lush adversary. He is the last person Willow wishes to battle because she’s not sure whether she wants to kill him or kiss him. Only one can be crowned the victor. Who will win the war of body over heart?

Caught in the Underworld and wanting a way out, what's a succubus to do?

Willow has been chosen to play gladiator in a fight for her freedom. The only problem is her competion is the man she slept with last night. Part incubus, he is immune to her charms and super hot to boot. This fight is going to be one hot love match. Only the best one will win.

Oh, I loved this story! Succubi are such fun paranormals to write about and Lila Shaw has them down pat! I love the playfulness she uses to craft her characters and this story has some really fun ones. I could not put it down! Hot, fun, immortal...well, what else would you do to pass the time?

5/5 For kick ass succubus hotness!

"I'm With the Gods"

Greek (and Roman) mythology and I have an old romance that began in my childhood. Thanks to some seasoning on my part and an inclination to write spicy stories, I've rekindled that love. Other authors, too, have drawn upon the myths--Rick Riordan, Aimee Carter, Jennifer Armentrout and P.C. Cast are a few who of the more famous ones who come to mind (though I'm betraying my fondness for YA books here).

What makes them so fascinating?

While I can't speak for others, I always liked how human they behaved despite being gods. They were murderers, rapists, adulterers, thieves, liars and cheats and weren't the least bit bothered by a little incest. Human motivators of power, greed, revenge, pride, jealousy often took center stage. Seriously, the daytime soaps had nothing on these beings.

They weren't all naughty. They could also embody love, faithfulness, sacrifice and courage. Interestingly, the demi-gods often fared better from a PR standpoint than the gods who created them. The myths of heroism by Hercules, Theseus, Perseus, and Odysseus come to mind. Everybody loves an underdog, even the Greeks, but especially the ones with mortal blood in their veins.

Titillating and exciting stories about relatable archetypes is the key to their popularity. The gods are some of the earliest paranormal and urban fantasy stars. Everyone is familiar with their natures and dominions so minimal back-story is needed to explain their powers and histories. Simply plop Poseidon into the tale and we know he's going to whip out some oceanic powers. Inclusion of the Greek gods not only makes deux ex machina convenient, it's practically a requirement.

Unlike the ancient Greeks, I do not treat the gods with any reverence; I enjoy making fun of them. In my book Succubus Games, Tyche, goddess of fortune is unlucky in love. Aphrodite, goddess of love, plays a dumb bunny who is shrewder than people give her credit for. And of course we have our hero, Helveticus (named for one of the fonts in my Word program), a demi-god similar to Hercules. Casting a non-Greek critter such as a succubus as the sympathetic but lusty heroine only adds to the motley character fun.

I hope you'll consider taking a playful romp through Purgatory with my characters and those I "borrowed" from the Greeks.

An Interlude With Author Lila Shaw

After nearly four millennia, Yve, a succubus and harvester of souls, has finally met her quota. She must travel to hell to redeem her own from the devil who holds it in hock. Ta’avah, the hunky and charming minion responsible for luring Yve into sexual slavery, joins her for her redemption ceremony before an audience of ogling demons. The pair soon learn that deals with the devil are rarely settled to anyone’s satisfaction other than Lucifer’s. Only one weapon can trump those of the master of deception, but do Yve or Ta have enough humanity left in them to find and wield it?

What I Liked:

Any stories about succubi automatically make it onto my reading list. The whole idea about an aggressive female apologetically out searching for sex and living from the life force of men is pretty interesting. Especially if the men involved deserved it. In this case, you have a succubus at the end of her contract and some pretty public sex if she wants out. Enter the hunky hero and you have a lusty romp through the bowels of Hell that will singe your hair.

What I Didn't:

It ended. Double damn. I want more!

Overall:

I loved this short tale of a succubus who was ready to end her contract and will be looking for more of these from the amazing Lila Shaw. Hot smoking sex, hunky demons, lusty succubi...what more can a girl ask for in a novella? The setting for her to go into the Underworld was a particular favorite. Excellent and spicy read.

5/5

In a kingdom where women outnumber men, marriage has more in common with slavery than romance. Lady Otsana certainly isn't willing to surrender her freedom and dumb herself down, not even for a blue blood. She's having too much fun disguising herself and bedding the hot, red-blooded type in the neighboring lands.

Prince Koldo is not too keen on marrying either, certainly not to that know-it-all Otsana his parents favor. He'd rather continue his intense sexual Olympics with a commoner named Fleur. Little does he know Otsana and Fleur are the same woman.

When the King throws a ball and a contest to choose Koldo's bride, Otsana must make a difficult decision. Will she enter the contest of the Golden Pea and risk all for a chance at love, or will she play it safe but give up Fleur's lover forever?

What I Liked:

This book was a bawdy romp through the Princess and the Pea story that I used to love as a child. I really love it now! The quest for a wife has always been one of those royal endeavors that can be horrific. Koldo has met his match in a maid he knows as Fleur, but she knows him for who he really is. As Fleur, Ostana can be a sexual wanton and it was so much fun to read! Koldo can barely walk the next day. How funny is that!? When the King makes the ultimatum and Koldo holds a special kind of contest to choose his bride, I knew this story was going to be amazing.

What I Didn't:

There was a humorous edge to the fairy tale construct that disconcerted me at first.

Overall:

This book has some smokin hot sex, a mystery about who is who and who wants what. The naughty fairy tale style was great and the humor that threw me at the onset of the story was well played as the book continued on. I loved the part with the golden pea-you have to read it find out!

4.5/5

1. Writing naughty fairy tales like Vixen and the Pea had to be tons of fun. What was your favorite thing about the book?

It was a ton of fun! I've always been fascinated by the story of the Princess and the Pea, which Vixen is, of course, based on. The tongue-in-cheek adaptation of it--"Once Upon a Mattress" starring Carol Burnett, one my favorite comediennes of all time--was wonderful too. What drew me was the idea that royalty was so different and so removed from the common rabble, that a princess would find even the tiniest of foreign objects in her bed irritating to her delicate flesh and a deterrent to a good night's sleep. How hard was that to turn on its head? My "princess" not only enjoys staying up all night, she adores foreign objects in her bed and in her delicate flesh! LOL

2. What are some other naughty fairy tales that spark your interest?

I've only read three other NFT's (so far) from my Evernight sisters, and all were great fun. I have a couple of others queued up on my Kindle, too, so I really can't choose from those already out there. But if I have time some day, I've already started plotting "The Three Corporate Pigs" about a woman who works for/with three sexist pigs that she, ahem, systematically disavows of that particular prejudice. Have I mentioned that I adore feisty, assertive heroines? No shrinking violets in my stories.

3. What was the hardest or funniest scene you have ever written?

I think the funniest would be the romance novel parody dream sequences in my debut novel, All's Fair in Love and War. Of those, I'd probably choose the first one in the book where an historical version of the book's heroine, Shelby, is accosted by an historical version of the hero, Colin, in his role as a ruthless highwayman who seeks to have his wicked way with her.

4. The use of the golden Pea in the Vixen and the Pea was inspirational! What inspired that idea?

**laughs** Probably Fifty Shades of Grey (yes, I've read them all) and my own laughable experience attempting the same maneuver as Anastasia. 'Nough said.

5. In your new book, Soul of the Succubus, you write about a succubus. I have always loved stories like that. What sparked the idea?

Oooh, my favorite subject. I adore writing about succubi, absolutely love them because they are powerful women who thrive on sex and are aggressive and unapologetic about getting it. Plus the supernatural element is always fun to play with. She's not nearly as popular as the vampire or werewolf, so I can make up almost whatever history, abilities or "rules" I like without offending reader expectations.

I've actually written over twenty short stories about succubi that I pulled into a collection, all linked together with a series of introductory quotes from fictional books, training manuals and speeches that might have been written for a succubus and her peers. A short story collection from a relatively new writer, however, is a tough sell, especially since only the final batch of stories have happy endings. Most publishers require a happy ending for all the tales, but many of mine are erotic horror, not romance, especially the earlier ones. The overall arc of the collection follows the emotional life cycle of a succubus:  from the terror of creation to anger to acceptance to playful enjoyment and finally to redemption in a variety of ways. I wrote them in different genres and settings, from space opera to steampunk to western with plenty of stops in between--a decadent succubus sampler. No takers so far, so my plan B is to expand and market them as stand-alone novelettes and/or short stories. So stay tuned!

6. What do you think the most challenging thing is about being a succubus?

Probably meeting her emotional and inspirational needs. Sex is sustenance but not necessarily the means to  long-term fulfillment. Beyond survival, what is her higher purpose for existing and how does she achieve it? If it's love, I suspect falling for a mortal man would be pretty draining, watching them age and die, sort of like having a pet.

7. What are you currently working on?

So many things because I write under three different pen names for three different audiences. As Lila, however, I have another succubus shorty revolving around Greek and Roman mythology that I'm nearing the finish line on. My other me's have a novel nearly ready to submit to agents and/or publishers, a followup short story to my debut romantic mystery and book two of an urban fantasy (in addition to edits of book one).

On August 17th my superhero novella called Prometheus Unstitched releases, so I (Lila) will also be busy marketing.

8. Do you have music that invokes an erotic mood when you write, or do you prefer silence?

I prefer silence when I write, but music is a huge inspiration for plotting and future writing sessions, erotic or otherwise. My family teases me for being a bit of a Rainman when it comes to music I listen to in my car. I tend to play the same CDs over and over again. I associate certain songs with plots, characters, scenes, and hearing the music gets my brain on that story's wavelength. Some music is sexy, some is light-hearted (because I gotta have my humor), and some is very dark and melodramatic.

9. Will you be writing more books with a succubus theme? (I hope!!!)

Oh, yes, ma'am. You can count on it.

10. What inspired you to write erotica and what would you tell someone who is just starting out?

I started off writing sweet romance and nonfiction humor. I added erotica solely to amuse and arouse myself at first. Then I wanted to see if I could write it well enough to do the same for third parties (versus making them cringe or snicker, and not just at the funny parts.) My first public posting of my work was for an erotica blog contest. I got ZERO public opinion votes. None, nada, nil. But, always a bit of an experimenter at heart, I wrote my entry in second person from a man's perspective. Yeah, pretty limited audience and not at all derived from what I knew. Lesson learned.

For newer writers, I would first say write what you like to read, and don't write anything you would melt into a puddle of embarrassment over if asked to read aloud. Readers can tell if you're squeamish.

Second is know your audience. Women readers typically want to "feel" the romance and emotion of the sex and require a broader spectrum of the senses be engaged throughout--the touch of warm lips on the nape of a neck, the scents and flavors of arousal and passion, the vocalizations of emotion more than the expletives of pleasure. Men, on the other hand, are more visual so those types of descriptions need to be most vivid.

Thanks for having over, Erzabet! :)

New on August 17th!

Cory Blindbarrow of Blindbarrow Crimefighting Couture, loves her work—from tailoring bulletproof fabrics to engineering concealed weaponry. Kowtowing to the over-sized egos of her superhero clientele? Not so much.

Her newest client, Theo Richelieu, aka Prometheus Man, can see five minutes into the future. Unfortunately, nobody believes him. He’s exactly the type that pushes Cory’s buttons. But he’s also quite talented at engaging (and disengaging) her snaps and zippers. As maddening as Theo can be, Cory can’t deny their supernatural chemistry.

When a sniper targets Cory’s colleagues, Theo appoints himself her protector. His know-it-all attitude soon has her ready to tattoo a bullseye on her forehead. If Theo is unable to convince the headstrong couturier she’s the sniper’s next mark, their happily ever after might never make it out of the design phase.

This one is going on my TBR list!
