The door of the Dodge Charger slammed behind her as Flick Lindenwood walked up the driveway to the house, dragging her wheeled suitcase after her.

It was exactly as she remembered. Pansies and tulips bloomed in the borders of the front garden, edging an elegantly mown lawn. In front of her stood the house, two stories rising behind a large veranda, a curtain twitching in one of the windows.

Before she reached the front door, it opened to reveal her mother. Flick let the handle of the case go and stepped forward to meet her in a hug.

“Felicity, darling! We’ve been waiting all morning.”

“Sorry, Mom. Traffic.”

Her mother stepped back, smiling, and looked her up and down. Flick bore the scrutiny patiently. She had a new haircut and outfit which had yet to receive maternal approval.

Apparently they did. Her mother pulled her back in for another hug. “You look lovely, darling. Oh, it’s so good to see you. I’ve got so many things to tell you—I’ve been organizing your graduation party, and then there’s the Saulters’ barbecue tomorrow, and—”

“All right, all right!” Flick broke in, laughing. “Let me get in first!”

She followed her mother into the entrance hall, noticing that the lounge door was open on her left. Through the doorway she could see her graduation photograph taking pride of place on the marble mantelpiece, blocking off part of the gold-edged mirror.

“Don’t be long,” Mrs. Lindenwood added airily as Flick made her way toward the staircase. “I want to hear everything. Have you met any nice girls?”

Review:

This was a great short read. The story was well rounded, the interaction between the characters smacking of joy and heartbreak as their relationship went from down to up again. The sex scenes were smoking hot and I couldn't put it down.

I do wish we had seen Elodie's POV as all of the story was from Flick's. And the way the two girls broke up-wow. Flick had a good reason to be mad but the resolution at the end was a little too easy. I also wondered about Elodie being so afraid to come out if her sister was also a lesbian with the full support of her mother. Without Elodie's POV, it was hard to get a good read on her and the story was a little incomplete. In other words-more please! Great story-just wanted multiple POV like you get in many romance novels, so it pulls you deeper into what each character is feeling.

Do You Hear What I Hear?

In a recent interview I was asked which five songs I would choose as a soundtrack to my new release Photograph. They had no idea what they had unleashed.

I don’t always have songs in mind, I admit, but on longer stories I generally do. In fact, there have been times when I’ve wanted to release a CD or MP3 file with each novel. “Okay, when you reach chapter 5, play track 3. When they reach the bedroom, play track 7.” Well, when in your head you’ve set a threesome scene to Basement Jaxx’s “Get Me Off”, you want people to know about it.

Music inspires me, and very often specific songs will strike a chord – they’ll suit the mood of a particular scene, or of a character’s feelings, or the theme of the story. Sometimes I imagine each character having a certain song playing the first time they enter. An arrogant alpha male might have “Sexy And I Know It” (or, if I’m in a comic mood, “I’m Too Sexy”). The heroine might have “The Most Beautiful Girl In The World”, if she’s lucky. Or sometimes a song will simply work as a backdrop. I never know what will end up sticking in my head.

So, as far as Photograph goes, here are the ones I would choose.

“Photograph” by Def Leppard – because it inspired the title, as it’s from the POV of a man pining after an unattainable celebrity.

“Apple Eyes” by Swoop – which was always in the background during the opening scene where Azure is approaching the yacht on the tender.

 “Be Mine!” by Robyn – a nicely yearning track for Tara’s musings about Liam.

“What Can I Do” by the Corrs – equally applied to Tara about Liam and also Ryan about Tara.

And “Break Me Shake Me” by Savage Garden – because I imagined it playing over the first sex scene between Tara and Ryan.

So for now I’ll just have to leave it to everyone’s individual imagination. But if we ever start releasing musical books, I’ll be right in there.

When I’m writing a full-length novel, I do a lot of work on character background. For a short, less so. I Heard Your Voice is a novella, so I ended up with quite a lot of character and very little that I could fit into the story.

So what better thing to do than profile my heroine Tamar Steele?

Tamar is a paranormal investigator who has been with her team since they all met at university. She’s the group’s webmaster and also one of their sensitives, who assist the medium by using their own ability to sense spirits.

Although the team is struggling financially, Tamar is fiercely independent. She has her own flat and her own car – relying on others for lifts has left her stranded in the past. Her family is supportive, but as one of sixteen children (yes, sixteen – her parents were an active and fertile couple) she’s used to putting others ahead of herself for the greater good.

And, like many women, she’s susceptible to the charms of a charismatic man, which leads her to the situation in which we find her at the start of the story – stuck in a loveless relationship with arrogant medium Reed James, whose primary interest in her is her part in his pre-investigation ritual: sex on haunted ground.

I’m hoping to write sequels to I Heard Your Voice, introduce a few siblings (one sister is an aromatherapist – I’m sure I could work that in somewhere) and develop Tamar’s desire to make the team into true paranormal investigators, visiting new haunted locations without having to play to the paying guests. So if things go well, all this character work will come in useful after all…

The Review:

This book had a unique flavor to it. You have a paranormal element to it that really brings you into the story like crazy. I was hooked the second I picked it up and kept reading until it was (sadly) over. The ghostly medium antics were fun and I loved hating Reed. Tamar was a very real character that I look forward to seeing in more books coming up. 

The sex scenes were twofold. You had the "service me" mode for Reed that was just plain horrid and then you had the panty melting scenes with Jason and his ghostly brother. Oh man. Hotness.

Don't miss this unique erotic foray into the world of ghost hunting and what it really takes to get ghosts to respond to you, hook line and sinker.
