Named and Shamed: A Kick Ass Interview With Janine Ashbless

Amazon buy link

Once upon a time, a naughty girl called Tansy stole a very precious manuscript from a kindly antiquarian. But all of the world’s ancient and powerful magic, lost for centuries, has returned...and now there is much more at stake than a few sheets of parchment.

Thus begins a rude and rugged fairy tale, the likes of which you NEVER read when you were little! Poor Tansy is led though the most pleasurable trials and the most shameful tribulations as her quest unfolds before her. Orgasmic joy and abject humiliation are laid upon Tansy in equal measure as she straddles the two worlds of magic and man.

Fantasy and BDSM slither together to make Named & Shamed the consummate adult fable. Immerse yourself in this dark and depraved fairy tale, and may all your endings be happy ever after!

Thank you for having me on your blog, Erzabet!

1. What inspired you to write erotic fairy tales?

I’ve always loved fairy tales, folklore and mythology. And when I was 17 or so I discovered Angela Carter’s collection The Bloody Chamber, which opened my eyes to their eroticism. My contemporary fantasy novel Wildwood ends when the heroine releases all the trapped magic back into the world, so years later I sat down and wondered what it actually would be like if that happened – how would we cope if there really were trolls under the bridges and ogres under the bed? The answer was “Not very well!” That’s where Named and Shamed came from – it’s a completely separate book from Wildwood, but shares the same world.

2. Tell us about the toughest scene you ever wrote? Why was it hard? Was it the sex or something else?

I’ve written a few scenes that have been censored by my editor, and I’ve been forced to rewrite (That’s really hard, because I know what I want to say and why I’m saying it, and I’ve been forced to compromise my principles): a couple of them where I made the hero bisexual, and this was considered “not masculine enough” back in the day before m/m was all the rage. The publishers denied they were being homophobic, but I didn’t believe them then and I don’t believe them now. Oh – and one scene where the heroine has sex with a minotaur ... and the poor editor nearly had a nervous breakdown because unless it had “a human head” I was obviously promoting real-world bestiality (Huh?).

Storm-in-a-teacup stuff, honestly, but a pain in the butt to deal with at the time.

3. Taco Bell or salad?

I’m a low-carb vegetarian, so it’d have to be salad, I’m afraid! With grilled halloumi cheese and walnuts and artichokes and mayo. Yum.

4. Margarita, beer or water?

You, know, I’ve never tried a margarita? What the heck have I been doing with my life?  Make me a margarita right now, barman!

5. What are some of your pet peeves in erotica?

Oh goodness. Bad grammar and bad spelling and bad writing generally – erotica shouldn’t be throwaway rubbish just because it’s about sex. Erotica should be hot and gripping and mind-blowing. So you do need to appeal to my mind as well as my other bits!

But I hate “literary erotica” — and by that I mean the stories where the heroine staggers passively from miserable unfulfilling sex-scene to miserable unfulfilling sex-scene for no reason except ennui, until she finally ends up killed in some sadomasochistic game because she hates herself/existence so much that she can’t be asked not to. This seems to considered the only acceptable way to approach erotica amongst the highbrow. They really can’t admit that happy, healthy people do BDSM for fun.

Personally I don’t think sex is about boredom or existential angst – I like my erotica to be sex-positive. I like my protagonists to enjoy themselves.

My only other real grouse is with authors who don’t know their anatomy. Clits are not self-lubricating. The hymen is NOT located inside the vagina, but at its opening. It’s not rocket science, folks.

6. Open up Named and Shamed and tell us what is going on.

Okay, I’ve opened it to page 266 which (in the paperback version, not the Kindle one) features an outrageous full-page illustration! My heroine Tansy, her cousin and the cousin’s boyfriend, have been chased by a nasty rural gang and she calls in a favour with the Elder Tree Witch who rescues them. But now they’re trapped in Fairyland at the witch’s whim. Tansy suddenly finds she’s living out the Hansel and Gretel story – her friends are being fattened up for the pot, and she’s being kept as a skivvy and sex-toy for the witch and the witch’s three monstrous sons. It’s looking rather rough for my heroine!

7. What are your favorite types of characters to write about? What are your least favorite?

I like writing about men. I find it easier to get an authorial grip on male personalities and motivation than I do with women. I guess I’m not very feminine myself, so I don’t write “normal” women terribly easily.

8. Pantster or plotter?

Pantser.

E. L. Doctorow said “Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”

So trust the muse — and drive carefully.

9. What types of things do you love in an erotica novel?

Power play. Shame and embarrassment that titillates but doesn’t sicken. Fear and overcoming fear. Seduction. Pushing of boundaries. Heroes and heroines with intelligence and wit and empathy.

10. It's time for dinner: Where would your main character go and what would she have? Is she a salad eater or does she love a great big cheeseburger?

Oh dear – Tansy in Named and Shamed wouldn’t eat either! She’s under a deadly Fairy Curse, which makes her both crazyass-horny and unable to stomach solid food. It’s supposed to kill her by making her waste away “for love,” but she’s smart enough to find her way around it by consuming, um, liquid nourishment ...
11. What one thing would you tell someone just starting out in the erotica genre?

You’ve got to like writing about sex. If you’re doing it because it’s the Latest Thing and you think you’re going to make a ton of cash, you are going to be soooooo disappointed. You have to write erotica because it’s what you love to write. Period.

Excerpt:
“Do you want to see the Bour Tree?”
            I hesitated, running my tongue-tip across my lip. “Okay. But I thought elder trees were bad luck.”
            “Not this ’un. She’s a good ’un.”
            He led me out into the garden. This was where all the women were, I realised: watching indulgently as their kids ran riot. Aaron took me over to the bush, which had three big trunks and a host of lesser ones. Hanging from the twigs was a glittering array of kids’ tat: plastic key-rings and fuzzy little animals, transforming robots, a toy aeroplane, a necklace made of sweets.
            “See?” said Aaron. “You make her a present and she gives you a wish.”
            I could hear some of the kids chanting as they skipped rope on the grass nearby:
Bour tree, bour tree: crooked wrong
 Never straight and never strong
Always bush and never tree
Since the Christ was hanged on thee.
            A Christian gloss on a much older warning, I thought.
“Hmm,” I said, noncommittally. I didn’t want to offend the man. Or the tree.
            “Go on,” he said.
A lock of my hair swung down across my face as he reached up without warning to my temple, pulled out the hairclip there and snapped it over a twig. My mouth fell open.
Aaron grinned. “Make a wish.”
            The hairclip was a cheap one with a white fabric flower on it. Even if it had been silk and diamonds, I wasn’t sure it would have been wise to snatch it back. Gifts to the Fair Folk should never be rescinded.
            I made myself relax again. “I don’t need to. Mine’s already come true,” I said, letting him know I could be just as cheeky and forward as he was.
            His eyes held mine, dancing. “Take a flower then.”
            I lifted an eyebrow and sought out one of the white clusters with my hand. “Give me of your wood, old girl,” I said softly. There are traditional formulae for turning aside an elder’s malice, and that’s one of them. “And I’ll give you mine when I grows into a tree.”
            “Ah,” he said, eyes narrowing. “You’re a smart ’un.”
He took the flower from my hand, blew on it to remove any stray insects, and tucked it gently into the V of my shirt neck. His fingertips brushed my bare skin, setting it off in electric sparkles.
“I should take you to meet my gaffer,” he said.
            “Is he as cute as you?”
            Aaron drew himself up, laughing. “No one’s as cute as me. Do you play pool?”
            “Yeah. Sometimes.”
            “Come on then.” He walked me round to another door at the back of the inn, and as we crossed the grass he put his hand casually on the swell of my ass and kept it there. I didn’t object. Once inside the door, in the corridor within, he drew me up against him and kissed me. It was a slow, soft and deeply dirty kiss, his tongue teasing its way past my lips and one hand drifting to squeeze my left breast and tweak my nipple. I responded to that in a manner far from ladylike — pressing up against him with eager, breathy mews of pleasure and sucking his tongue deeper into my mouth. I wanted him to push me up against the wall and ram his cock into me, there and then. The knot of flesh in his trousers grew hard as I ground myself against it, and his other hand tightened on my ass even as his mouth deserted mine.
             “Oh, you’re hot,” he growled under his breath. He rubbed my nipple between finger and thumb, pinching it until my knees nearly gave way. “I bet you’re a real goer.”
            “You won’t know till you try,” I whispered, running the tip of my tongue over his lips.
            “Hh.” His eyes glittered with secretive speculation. “Be patient. Come on through.”
            With one hand around my wrist he drew me through another door. The smell of beer and cigarettes rolled over me, a sweet pubby aroma I found very pleasant. This was another bar room. The space was dominated by a pool table and it was full of men standing about with pint glasses in their hands — they seemed to have a real gender segregation thing going on here — and everyone stopped and stared as we entered.
            “Look what I found,” said Aaron, putting his arm around my shoulders and giving me a squeeze. It might have been meant to be reassuring. Or it might have meant something else altogether, like preventing me from turning tail and running. “She’s real friendly, like.”
            There was no way I was leaving. I looked around and grinned, understanding very well. The men here were of all ages from eighteen up, dressed casually or in country style with flat tweed caps. Not an urban metrosexual sophisticate among them, and they were all openly ogling me. Someone whistled. I could feel their gazes like so many groping caresses on my tits and thighs, and it filled me with heat. I thrust my breasts out a little further, reveling in the attention and feeling my nipples swell to hard points.
            “Come and meet the Gaffer.” Aaron let go long enough to pat my ass, then steered me round the table. The Gaffer was one of the guys in the tweed caps, big and middle-aged and paunchy. He stood surrounded by a little knot of men who looked like they’d been hanging on his every word. He might not have had prepossessing looks, but it was clear he had status, and I that was being presented for inspection. His pale blue gaze slid over me.
            “This is Tansy,” said Aaron, running one finger down my spine, making me gyrate and squirm.
            “A pleasure to meet you, Tansy.” The Gaffer lifted his gaze from an unabashed consideration of my boobs and looked me in the eye. Without blinking, he added. “You’ve done well for yourself there boy. She’s pretty. Magnificent knockers.”
            It was a test, of sorts. A calculated slap in the face, to see how I would react. I flushed and giggled, dropping my gaze with a strange instinctive coyness. I could feel my pussy swelling at the compliment. Because it was a compliment — degrading and crude and offensive, it was still an acknowledgement of my desirability by the most important man in the room. I got it. In times of trouble, scared people look for leaders. It just so happens that the sort of guy who wants to be a leader is usually a tool of the first order, but that doesn’t matter to them. Even if he chooses to impose some sort of weird elder-tree cult it doesn’t matter, as long as he leads. I knew that with a single word from this man I could be on my knees in this back bar, tugging open his flies and sucking his cock while he sipped his pint with a complacent smirk and everyone looked on.
            I wet my lips.

How to Be Kinky: An Interview with Morpheous

How to Be Kinky: A Beginner's Guide to BDSM

How to be Kinky is a primer on the multifaceted world of kink and getting into BDSM play. It is for beginners and novices, couples and singles. Here, Morpheous tackles topics that aren’t regularly addressed in other sex etiquette books. Most books on BDSM lean heavily towards clinical issues and tools/techniques. There are books on being “a top” or “a bottom”, but the wide spectrum of human dynamics in BDSM play is not covered.

This beginner’s guide addresses all aspects of enhancing your sex life with kinky play. Singles and couples who are new to the scene will appreciate material on the basics of BDSM play and role playing, how to turn your bedroom into a den of iniquity, discovering kinky uses for common household objects, proper protocols and etiquette at fetish events, the physiological and psychological aspects of pleasure and pain, and how to maintain physical and emotional safety during play.

This enhanced second edition is reworked in full color, with gorgeous and sexy photographs, as well as 15 easy to follow photo essays. Communication, fun, and safety are at the forefront of this top-selling beginner's guide, and once you’ve finished you’ll be wondering How to Be Kinkier!

Awesome and a 5/5!

1. How did you get involved in the BDSM lifestyle?
Like a lot of people I grew up feeling my desires were somehow "different" from others and I never knew that there would be a whole community of people that liked to do some of the same things I did. In the early 90's I got invited to my first fetish party through a piercing studio and made some new friends. It was very relieving to know there were others just like me and I had met some of them. Back in the pre internet days you had to know someone who knew someone who would invite you to the private parties. I think that while there is a romantic charm in looking back at those days, the internet helps people connect faster and more readily so they don't feel as alone for as long. It is a double edged sword of course and you have to use your good judgment. Back in "the day" a successful munch would be if a dozen to 20 people showed up. In Toronto the TNG group now takes over the upper floor of a pub and hosts around 120 people each munch. That speaks volumes for both the effectiveness of the internet to connect people and to help keep others safe(er) by demonstrating there is a community they can rely on as a support system instead of feeling alone.

 2. What were your favorite things about writing the How to be Kinky books?
I am a firm believer in writing about what you know. I have traveled across North America and Europe teaching classes on safety, bondage, play and everything in between and what is always reinforced is no matter the city or country, kinksters are people just like everywhere. We all want to be loved, to love and to share and feel a sense of belonging.  It is always a great joy to meet people from all over and learn new things. Believe it or not, after 20 yrs of being in the scene, I still see new things in the scene! I love to meet people and this is definitely the best part of writing.
 3. Cheeseburgers or sushi?
Cheeseburgers!  I am an accomplished underwater photographer (in my vanilla interests) so eating my little buddies from under the sea is really not part of my outlook on life :)

 pxe--email1

 4. What is your favorite knot or technique for rope play?
Easily the Lark's Head or Prusik Knot (both very similar).  When playing in a public area or performing, I rely on non slipping knots that will stay where I put them but are also easy and quick to untie in the right circumstances. These knots perform amazingly. I believe that how you end a rope scene is just as important as how it begins and using knots that will not jam or be unsightly or get in the way is essential to helping create the whole ambiance of a scene. I want my rope bunny to be enraptured with the process of being bound, not feeling frustrated that I have to work a few knots open with a marlin spike because it tightened too much with the suspension. I want things to be just as fluid and connected as we are ending our dance together as much as we started it.

 5. If you were to talk to a beginner just starting out with BDSM, what would you tell them to start with?
Get offline.  Get out and meet people that are into the same things you are. Go to larger munches, ask questions and never play the same day as your first munch. How do you find all these great communities and people? Easy - go online :)   I know I know, I am not making this easy am I?  The real world and real experiences are so much better than any of the fantasies in your head, because you can have the chance to live them and meet others in the community. That is so much better than hiding behind a computer screen.

 6. Flogger, whip or paddle?
A signal or snake whip. Mmmmmmmmm....  I don't think there is anything else in the world of BDSM that better symbolizes what it is we "do" than a whip. It is elegant and strong and takes real skill to master it, much as one must master one's self before they can expect someone to master them.

 7. Favorite ice cream flavor? (I know it can't be vanilla!)
I pick two so I am cheating a little here. There is a terrific little homemade ice cream stand down the road from my cottage up in the Canadian north. It is just outside of town and a small log cabin building that makes their own ice cream each summer and it  overlooks one of the larger lakes. There is nothing better than going just before sunset on a warm summer's night with the water right on the edge, sitting on the tailgate of your cousin's truck and eating a scoop of orange sherbet on top of Death by Chocolate below wedged snugly into a waffle cone while everyone watches the sun set. Oh yeah and there is a statue of a cow on the roof.  As teenagers we may or may not have been known to climb up late at night and ride that cow. LOL

 8. Tell us a little about some of the educational work you do.
I come from a formal background in education and believe that the more people know about a subject the potentially safer it becomes. I want to help dispel myths and reinforce facts when it comes to education. What may or may not be my kink is not the issue, what is decidedly important is that people have access to knowledge and information so they can make their own informed choice.

 9. Finding kinky things around the house can be a huge cost saver and gets the creative juices flowing in more ways than one. What are some of your favorite finds?
I will forever be a fan or chop sticks and elastic bands. They are such wonderfully mean improvised clamps!  The tongue  nipples, labia, head of the cock, tips of the fingers - just about anywhere you think you might want to use them on someone. It costs pennies and it can make a Friday night date all the more interesting.

 10. What two things do you think any kinkster should have in their arsenal?
I am going to answer this in two ways:

1) knowledge, support and a real sense of accountability.  Whatever it is you do, there are real consequences, both you and to other's in the scene. Don't do things that are outside your skill level and when you want to build it, ask someone better than you. The experienced people were just like the newbies at one point and we are happy to share what we have learned to make things safer.
2) in the toy bag:  60' of 1/4" nylon braided rope off the spool from the hardware store cut into 2, 20' lengths and 2, 10' lengths, Something to hit someone with like a paddle or belt and a soft fuzzy fur mitt to stroke and give a different sensation from the paddle.  Oh yes and safety shears. Always have safety shears before anyone gets tied up.

 11. What are you working on now?
I would love to share but I am under a non disclosure contract. However I can tell you that I have two more books I am signed for and right now I am researching and writing them. It will take a while to put them together because travelling and meeting others is such an integral part of my writing process but you should see something by early 2014.  I can promise that they will also be full of lush color photographs. I love shooting my subjects as much as I love meeting  them :)

Thank you Morpheous for being on the blog today! I have greatly enjoyed your books and look forward to your next kinky installment.

All In Fun
Hey y’all, I’m here to talk about my newest release, Dean’s List, an EC for Men Quickie.
I have to tack that last bit on when I’m talking about it because it’s something new for me. Writing a book strictly about sexual fantasies. We all have them, men, women, young, old, naughty and not-so-naughty. Something as simple as a kiss or as complicated as a full-fledged orgy with you as the star. Fantasies are what we indulge in, but don’t always fulfill.
It starts off innocently enough. I used to daydream about being a superhero, a secret superhero of course. There was something special about me that would show the world how wonderful I was and John Taylor of Duran Duran would fall madly in love with me and I’d rescue my entire school from some unidentifiable threat and John Taylor would fall in love with me. I had a huge crush on him as a third grader. At that time though, I was more concerned with being a heroine and having the cute bassist from my favorite band like me and want to share my milk at lunch.
The older I got though, those fantasies changed. One of my favorites was that I’d become super-sexy (superheroish yet again), rolling into town on my Ducati  or my Harley (forgetting the fact that I’m a disaster on a bicycle) and making my ex-boyfriend regret breaking things off with me. Then I’d indulge in some revenge sex and ride off into the sunset…without falling off the bike and leave him sobbing. SOBBING.
But that was before I became a writer. I didn’t consciously start out writing naughty stories. I honestly just wanted to write a story where love conquers all, the misfit heroine wins the biggest, most popular (or the most dangerous) guy and they live happily ever after. Then I realized that heroine had to have a fantasy. The hero too. Thus was born the sex scene. For me at least.
Oh how I blushed those first days of writing romance. I was so young and innocent! Then I started hanging out with other writers and my work became a little hotter the more I realized there was nothing wrong with sex or fantasy. Then I wrote even hotter stuff and then hotter still. My work evolved, becoming a balance between the sex and the emotions my characters felt. Spanking, a little light bondage and finally exhibitionism, a little fun that wasn’t completely vanilla. Until finally, I thought “I need to just write a book about sex.”
No messy emotions, no black moments, no “is this wrong” guilty feelings. Just sex. Fulfilling the fantasies that cloud a person’s mind. The ones we don’t really want to admit to anyone because they’re taboo, or they’ll cause jealousy, those kinds of fantasies were the basis for Dean’s List. What do you do if your husband wants a different kind of woman? What if his fantasies revolve around a woman completely unlike you? What do you do?
I won’t answer that, but needless to say I think Dean’s List will prove to be more than just for men. I think it’ll be the kind of book couples can read together to spice up their sex lives. Because fantasy is just that. Fantasy. Unless you’re lucky enough to find the right person who can help you fulfill it without anyone getting hurt the way the hero of Dean’s List does.
After all, it’s all in good fun.
I’m not going to ask you what your favorite fantasy was unless you’re willing to share, but who was your childhood crush?

Bio:
Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana (that would be somewhere around Houma) where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing.

Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.

Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. When she isn’t writing, working or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.

Catching Meara Tour

Catching Meara
by Christine Young

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Meara Thorton was a feisty, world class computer hacker—cornered by the FBI and shockingly given the chance to be their newly acquired technical analyst.  Brilliant and intuitive, yet aching with the loss of everyone she has cared about, her restless heart led her to discover a love she fought and a world she didn't know could possibly exist.
Jace McKenna was an enigma, a loner, impossibly handsome, sincere and committed. The Apache shapeshifter blood running through his veins burned hotter than the blistering Sierra Madre sun. Jace knew the moment he caught Meara's scent she was his for eternity.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

"I can't--sleep. I can't close my eyes."

"Why ever not?"

"I'm afraid that cat will show up again. Any suggestions? Any besides keep all the doors and windows closed?" Like a drill sergeant, she marched through his open front door.

She didn't hear footsteps behind her, but she did hear the door close. He was always as silent as cat stalking a mouse. She didn't sense his presence until his hands were on her and he was spinning her around. Surprised, she cried out. The spinning sensations caused her to stumble. She fell down to the floor and he followed.

She was beneath him and he was sprawled over her, taut, tense, his chest naked and the muscles rippling. She wanted to trace the rosettes on his body. They were everywhere and she'd never noticed how many he had. His eyes seemed to blaze, searing, into her. "Meara," he began. "Dear god, Meara." Then he fell silent. He groaned as his fingers moved into her hair...and he was kissing her...really kissing her.

Not as he had kissed her earlier. Not lightly, but with hunger, raw and animalistic. Openmouthed, his lips moved upon hers, wet, hot, enticing a response from her. His tongue swept her mouth, thrust inside and demanded she respond equally. Then he drew away, kissing her face, the tip of her nose, her closed eyelids. His tongue rimmed her lips before slipping inside her mouth again, so deeply the inferno raced throughout her body. She needed to touch him if only to reassure herself this too was not a dream.

She wanted to feel the warmth of his body and explore the contours that were all male animal, sleek and hard. And in turn she felt an overwhelming urge, the fire, and the desperation to have him at any cost.

His lips rose above hers just a fraction of an inch. She touched them delicately with her tongue, encircling them, nipping lightly. He held still to her gentle assault then swept his arms around her. Once again their mouth melded and the tasting and sweeping and hunger were shared. When they broke apart again, his hold on her eased, but the tension in him seemed greater, explosive. His breath fanning her cheeks, he whispered. "Meara, I'm sorry. I understand it's too soon. It's just..."

Beneath him she lay still, wondering what on earth was happening to her. It wasn't too soon. Yet maybe he had the right of it. Perhaps he didn't want her in that way. She had teased and taunted him, shown up at his door and practically begged for the kiss--for sex. Still she wondered how he could just walk away. It seemed to him the kiss was a mistake, but she'd live with the mistake and cherish the moment.

He was on his feet, one hand holding tight to his towel, the other reaching down to her, helping her to stand. She gazed at him, her fingers still entwined with his, her lips swollen and soft and wet from the kiss.

"Jace," she whispered his name. He didn't speak, and his eyes focused with hers. "I'm not what you want. I know I'm not the kind of girl..." Her voice trailed away miserably. She barely knew him, and she had imposed herself after long days at work. But she wondered if his desire was great enough, if she could seduce him.

"Meara, hush, you are exactly the kind of girl I would want." His voice was a low growl, his words fraught with tension, his eyes blazing.
