Excerpt Three:

There is a knock on the door. I put on a plush robe and let in the server. He rolls in a table full of dishes of various sizes covered with stainless steel domes. When the server leaves, I begin lifting the lids, each one feels like a little present. Champagne and strawberries, a plate of asparagus, such a curious shape asparagus has, chocolate truffles, chocolate dipped banana and chocolate covered cherries. The largest platter, I save for last. It is a huge steak, with a knife stuck in it and pinkish juices pooling around the meat. The carnal spread feels like a gastronomical form of foreplay. I have lost some weight due to my new busy schedule so I welcome the indulgence. The first bite of steak melts in my mouth and I let out a moan to express its deliciousness. I sample everything on the table; all the contrasting flavors explode in my mouth. The sweet and sour strawberries make me think of him that first morning, shirtless and sweaty, pursing his lips around the red fruit. The sweet bubbles of the champagne tickle my throat. It’s not long before I am full, and I sit there with a smile on my face, beyond satisfied.

Even Villains Go to the Movies by Liana Brooks

1. How did you start writing romance? It was a complete accident. I started writing, but I believe in Happily Ever After and I love to see people in love so all my books started straying into Romance territory. EVEN VILLAINS FALL IN LOVE (Heroes and Villains Book 1) was my first true foray into purposefully writing romance, but EVEN VILLAINS GO TO THE MOVIES (Heroes and Villains Book 2) is probably truer to the genre.

2. Plotter or pantster? Pantster. I try to plot, I really do, but it never works. I wind up planning a few chapters ahead and I spend the first three drafts erasing huge chunks of writing, but I need that. I need to play and sketch out the story before I can flesh it out into a real book.

3. What are three things you have on your writing desk? Computer, mouse, phone? I have a stack of reference books and usually a glass of water, but those change all the time. I do love THE EMOTION THESAURUS and THE DESCRIBERS DICTIONARY. I use them a lot during rough drafts.

4. Favorite food? Sushi! I’m a California girl and sushi with a bowl of miso soup on the side is my idea of comfort food.

5. Tell us a little about your new release. What character in the book really spoke to you? I really loved writing Angela, she’s very upbeat, very optimistic, and very stubborn in her own way. The whole idea that she can’t do something is foreign to her, and that gets her into all sorts of fun trouble. Besides, you’ve got to love a girl who goes for a run just to buy a cupcake.

6. I write because ____... There are people who don’t write? I wasn’t aware that was an option. I always have stories running around in my head. Most of them don’t make it to paper, but I can’t imagine going through the day without daydreaming.

7. What is your favorite type of character to write about? Oh… gosh… probably the Unexpected Hero. I love stories about characters with big emotional arcs, the ones who really change over the course of the story and are willing to lose everything to get what they want. I also like really direct characters, it’s nice to have one person in the story who can punch their way through any wall they encounter.

8. What is the sexiest scene you ever wrote? I think I’ll let the fans answer that one.

9. What advice would you give new authors in the erotica/romance field? Don’t be afraid of emotions. Love is just one color on the painter’s pallette. Don’t be afraid to paint a vivid emotional picture, let your characters experience the full range of emotions, let them have real relationships that go past lust and desire.

10. What is next on your writerly horizon? Book 3, which really needs a working title. I’m finishing up Delilah’s book, hopefully it will be out late next spring. She’s chasing down some of the villains introduced in EVEN VILLAINS GO TO THE MOVIES and, of course, getting tangled up with a superhero. Once I find some down time I’m planning on writing the next Apex War short story to follow up on Prime Sensations, a short story that came out in this year’s TALES FROM THE SFR BRIGADE. And there’s always novels on the back burner.

EVEN VILLAINS GO TO THE MOVIES excerpt
By Liana Brooks
November 2013- Breathless Press

Angela tossed the red curls of her wig and parked Luiz’s bike in the alley behind the conference center. She hadn’t put on her Rage getup since arriving in LA, but tonight the mental screams of terror echoing from the center warranted the kind of investigation that would attract questionable attention.
Tight black jeans, a bright red tank top that matched her hair, and a leather duster that was too heavy for the L.A. heat were a start. She’d added a black domino mask that obscured the shape of her nose and cheekbones when she’d moved to New York, because no one needed to see their favorite school teacher beating down the local thugs. The heart and star pendant around her neck— a little invention of her Daddy’s that would shield her from most things—completed the outfit.
The ‘most’ still worried her some days.
Terror radiated from the building, escalating until the headache tearing into her brain was a living fire. Whatever was happening, she would hit back. Hard.
Checking to make sure the alley was empty, Angela sauntered towards the back door and hoped someone inside had been kind enough to leave it open. More often than not the people hired to cater at these places would stick a rock in the door to keep it from locking every time they slipped out for fresh air.
If not she could always pick the lock. Angela sighed. The whole point of moving away from her sisters was to avoid a life filled with crime and superheroes.
Angela reached for the door and someone hit her. A breeze ruffled her wig and she found herself on her back in the alleyway, staring up at a masked man. No hate tainted the aura around him, nothing that suggested that he was dangerous except that he was bigger than her.
She raised an eyebrow. "Hello?"
The man took a deep breath. "Hi." He smelled like mint.
"I’m new to the area, so I’m not familiar with the protocol when you’re jumped by a masked man in an alleyway. Is there a secret handshake or something?" she asked, sarcastically.
"I’m here to save your life."
Angela looked around for signs of danger. The man was the only thing in the alley, and he was cradling her, hand cushioning her head, muscular arms suspending him in a pushup so his body weight wasn’t resting on her.
"Right. What danger am I in, exactly?"
"The door is going to explode and kill you," he said in a very serious tone.
She lifted her head to peer over his shoulder at the door. It was a mistake. The movement meant gyrating under him in his spandex suit, and she caught a whiff of cologne, soap, and clean sweat. His emotions shifted, becoming tinged with desire and arousal.
Angela cleared her throat and lay back down, trying to put space between herself and her captor. "Mm hmm. Tell you what, let me up and I’ll help you find your doctor. I bet someone is very worried about you missing your medicine."

Voodoo by Justus Rou

Voodoo
Justus Roux

Blurb:  When I arrived at the club DesnĂşdate I had no idea that my entire life was about to change. What started out as a strange gift from my best friend transformed everything about me.  Looking over the list of Masters at the club one name stood out…the name he gave himself was Voodoo.

I had these desires that I couldn’t quite place. These dreams…these images…haunted my fantasies and now all of them were about to become reality.  This man, who simply went by the name Voodoo, led me into this lifestyle. Voodoo, his name rolls off my tongue like silk. Voodoo, the man I would call…Master.
“Voodoo” is the first book in Justus Roux’s Master of My Heart series
Master of My Heart series is single titled novels that have a hero who has what it takes
to be called Master.

Guest post:

The Romance of It All
Their eyes lock…their hearts race…then he slowly moves closer. The look in his eyes is undeniable, he wants her. Her breathing quickens and sweet anticipation fills her. She wants his kiss.
He delays the moment just a little longer. He has waited so long to taste her lips.
The first kiss, what is sweeter than that, the moment when the two main characters make that physical connection.  Some books make you wait forever for that moment and some start out like that.  Either way, I do love the romance of it all.
I love reading and writing romance novels. Love…nothing is better than that, nothing completes us like love.  It drives the story forward, giving the main characters the reason to go on.  When the romance in a story is just right it keeps us turning the pages, waiting, wondering if the two main characters will end up together. If they can overcome the many obstacles us writers put them through and have their perfecting ending.
As a reader I love when a book makes me lose sleep because I have to find out what happens. As a writer when a reader tells me they couldn’t put my book down it is an awesome feeling then I know I got the story just right. As both a reader and writer, if the book makes me have that feeling, you know the one, when it ends just perfectly and you do that content little sigh thing, then it’s perfect. When I’m working on a book, and I’m on the last editing before I send it off to the proof reader, I have to have that feeling or I don’t send it off.

I love writing in this genre. Even if I dip my toes in other genres I will always have some kind of romance in the storyline.

Excerpt:

Chapter One

Amanda looked at the clock for about the millionth time today. It seemed like time was crawling by. She was glad that today was kind of a light day at work. There was no way she could concentrate not after the birthday gift her friend Alice gave her.
Amanda looked over the print ad one more time. It looked good, thank goodness. She looked up at the clock again. Damn, she wished she would stop doing that. Time wasn’t going to speed up because she was watching the clock.
Why in the world did she accept Alice’s gift? What was she thinking? A million questions filled her thoughts. Alice surprised her this morning with this unusual gift and all day this was the only thing Amanda could think of.
“What are you doing for your birthday, Amanda?” Rodney said as he handed her a small gift.
“You didn’t have to get me anything.”
“I know, but I saw this while I was shopping. It had you written all over it.”
Amanda smiled at him. Rodney was a nice enough guy and he was always hinting at asking her out. She was a firm believer in not mixing business with pleasure. It always got unpleasant when these kinds of romances fizzled out and both parties still had to work together.
“Any big plans for tonight?” Rodney looked hopeful.
“Alice is taking me to a club.”
“Oh…that sounds like fun.” Rodney couldn’t hide his disappointment.
Amanda opened the small box, inside was a beautiful pendant. It was a little golden elephant holding a small sapphire in its raised trunk.
“You mentioned that you collect things with elephants on it.”
“Thank you, Rodney. This was very nice of you.”
“You’re welcome. Happy birthday, Amanda.”
“Thank you.” Amanda smiled at him.
Rodney went happily back to his desk. He seemed very pleased that she enjoyed his gift.
Amanda looked back up at the clock. Ten more minutes then she could head home. She set the ad aside she was working on. She did some more busy work. Holy crap these last minutes were like movie minutes they went on and on.
“Finally,” she sighed when it was time for her to leave. She quickly hurried to gather her things then headed out. She didn’t want to give Rodney a chance to ask her out for a drink. She was too wound up about tonight and didn’t want to hurt his feelings by turning him down. She got to her car and headed home.
Amanda took a shower then stood in front of her closet. What was she going to wear? What was she expected to wear?
Alice worked as a waitress in a BDSM club named DesnĂşdate. Only members were allowed in this club. Alice secretly submitted Amanda’s name and pulled some strings to get the head Master to allow Amanda to join as a submissive. Tonight Amanda was going to pick her Master.
“This is absurd.” Amanda felt like she was going to be sick. What in the hell was Alice thinking? Amanda walked over to her bed and sat.
“Hey girl,” Alice said as she came into the room. “You aren’t dressed yet?”
“Well excuse me if I don’t know what to wear to a club that basically translated into English means get naked.”
“You don’t have to be naked, silly. In fact it is frowned upon. They have playrooms…”
“Playrooms?” Amanda interrupted her.
“So you and your Master can play a little spank and tickle.”
“I’m not just going to fuck a random stranger.”
“I would hope not on your first meeting. Jupiter wouldn’t like that.”
“Jupiter?”
“One of the head Masters at the club. Everyone has a code name remember. Speaking of code names what is going to be yours?” Alice looked through Amanda’s closet.
“My code name? Oh shit…well I’m guessing that all those Masters will give themselves the name of some god.”
“Pretty much.”
“How will I know which one to choose or is one chosen for me?”
“You choose your Master. You will be given a menu so don’t worry.”
“A menu?”
“Don’t sweat the details. It is all pretty simple. You choose the Master you want off the menu then you go meet with him. If you hit it off you make a date to play in one of the playrooms. No one will know who you are so chill and enjoy. You said you were curious about this BDSM stuff, so I thought this would be a great present for your thirtieth birthday. Here wear this.” She tossed the little black dress at her. “Wear something sexy underneath.”
“I thought I was just meeting with a Master.”
“You are, but you will feel sexy. Can’t hurt. Now hurry up and get ready.”
Amanda found her lacy black bra and panties. She also wore her thigh-high stockings. She always felt sexy wearing these underneath whatever she was wearing. She put the little black dress on and looked at herself in the mirror. She let her long brown hair hang loose. Her makeup wasn’t too severe but emphasized her big brown eyes. The dress showed off her curves and added length to her small frame. She made sure to wear her four inch stilettos. She grabbed her small black clutch purse and threw her cellphone, lipstick, compact and wallet into it.
“Well here goes nothing.” She convinced herself she had nothing to lose. Why not check this club out? At the very least it would provide some very interesting people watching.

***

DesnĂşdate was located in Chandler which wasn’t too far from Scottsdale. Of course Phoenix traffic was a joy, but it gave her time to calm her nerves. Alice chattered away about this and that. Amanda wasn’t really paying attention.
The club was in a private residence. This only added to Amanda’s nerves.
“Jupiter and Zeus bought this house several years ago. Wait until you see the inside.”
“Wow, this is a huge house.”
“Pull up to the front entrance someone will park your car for you.”
There was a young male waiting by the entrance and he quickly came out to the car.
“Enjoy your stay,” he said cheerfully as he took the keys from Amanda.
Amanda followed Alice inside. The foyer was very large, opulent, it reminded Amanda of one of the houses in a classic older movie. You know one you would expect some old rich guy to own.
“How did you afford…”
“Don’t worry about it. Jupiter likes me.” Alice smiled seductively. “Besides, they are always looking for female submissives to balance things out.”
“I don’t understand.”
“There are lots of male submissives and too few females. I guess women are just shyer about this kind of stuff. You will have to meet with Jupiter or Zeus after you are done talking with the Master you have chosen.  Of course if you choose one of them it saves time. I’d suggest you try another one of the other Masters first before even thinking about playing with the two big guys.”
“Okay.”
Amanda followed Alice into the bar. There were several tables and of course a very large bar. Several males were already seated. A couple of females were dotted among them. Amanda sat at one of the tables.
“See, I told you there are too many males. Most of the Masters are bisexual and there are of course Mistresses. I will just bring you the menu for Masters since I know you aren’t into women.”
“Thank you.”
“Sit. I will bring you over a glass of wine and a menu. Remember girl, relax and have fun. Promise me you will keep an open mind.”
“I think me coming here pretty much shows you I have an open mind.”
“Just don’t chicken out. Who knows, you might find you have a taste for this lifestyle.” Alice hurried off to get Amanda a drink and a menu.
Amanda looked around the room. A few of the males looked to be as nervous as she was. She wondered if it was their first time here too.  Did she look as nervous as they did? There were a couple of males who looked eager and a few who were looking intently at a menu. The handful of females seemed relaxed as if this was nothing new to them.
“Here you go.” She handed Amanda a leather covered menu.
“Oh my God, it does look like a menu.” Amanda chuckled.
“I love that it does.” She set the glass of white wine down in front of Amanda. “Take your time and read through the menu. It lists all their hard and soft limits. Or in laymen’s terms what they will and will not do.”
“I didn’t even think about that.”
“Now would be the time to. Just signal to me when you are ready.”
“What happens if two submissives choose the same Master?”
“Then one will have to wait until the Master is done with the other or they simply choose another one. Oh, and don’t forget to come up with a fake name to use here.” Alice hurried over to the small male who was signaling for her.
Amanda opened the menu and chuckled seeing that most of the Masters were named after gods. “Figures.” She looked at Jupiter’s and Zeus’ description. They both were up for pretty much anything. That was kind of scary, no wonder Alice suggested she choose someone other than those two. Amanda scanned down the list.  The listing after a couple of the other Masters seemed so stuffy, clinical even. She stopped on the name Voodoo.
“Now that is different.” The fact that this Master wasn’t named after a god intrigued her. She read his listing.
Hey there little females. I’m kind of laid back so there won’t be tons of rules. I enjoy allowing a submissive to explore her limits. Yet, I do have some hard limits. No golden showers or stuff like that. No severe pain. In other words, if you like spankings, light whippings etc, I’m your Master.  Sorry males, but I’m not into the guy on guy stuff.  I do enjoy voyeurism and exhibitionism, so if you are shy I’m not your guy.  The main thing is I want honesty. If I do something you don’t like just tell me. Communication is the key to really enjoying our time together.  Alright, I suppose you want to know what I look like. I’m a tall guy I would say about six foot two. I’m athletic.  I have been told I have a nice smile and pretty dark eyes. I have dark hair. I’m thirty-five. I think that about sums it up.
Amanda liked Voodoo’s listing. The others seemed so serious almost business like. She looked up when a middle aged male dressed in leather came into the room.  He was average-looking and had short dark hair. He looked like he must work out quite a lot. His arms were well-muscled and he filled out the leather outfit nicely.
“That is Zeus,” Alice said as she refilled Amanda’s wine glass.
“Do all the Masters look like him?”
“No, they run the gamut from a two to a ten.”
“What do you give him?”
“A solid seven, in my book anyways, you know I like them strong as hell. You made your choice yet?”
“I think I will take Master Voodoo.”
“Oh girl…nice choice.”
“You have seen him?”
“Voodoo is a strong ten in anybody’s book, girl. Now what name have you picked for yourself?”
Amanda kept her gaze on Zeus as he hooked a leash on a small pretty male’s collar.
“Don’t worry, you don’t have to walk on a leash, well at least not on your first visit,” Alice said as she chuckled.
Amanda thought about her fake name. “I think I will be called Iris.”
“Iris…why that name?”
“In mythology she was the servant to the gods.”
Alice chuckled. “Nice one. Okay Iris, someone will come and get you when Voodoo is ready to meet with you.”
Amanda downed her drink. She was more nervous than ever. Was Voodoo really a ten, or was Alice messing with her? Did it really matter? She was going to make an ass of herself regardless. Her nerves would see to that.

***

A male waiter walked up to Amanda. “Iris, please follow me. Master Voodoo will be joining you in room five.”
“Right now?”
“It is never polite to keep a Master waiting.”
Amanda quickly stood. She checked herself in the tiny compact mirror then she quickly put it back into her clutch.
“Is this your first visit with us?”
“That obvious huh?”
The waiter smiled. “Don’t worry Master Voodoo is a patient Master.”
That was good, she thought. He was going to need a truckload of patience with her.  She followed the waiter up a flight of stairs then down a long corridor. Each room they passed had a number on the outside of it. Her heart pounded hard in her chest when she saw the number five on the white door.
“Have a seat. Master Voodoo will be here shortly.”
She stepped inside the room. There was two large wing backed chairs facing each other with only a small coffee table separating them. She hoped it didn’t matter which chair she sat on. She went to the one on the right and slowly sat. She looked around the small room. It was rather plain compared to what she had seen of the club so far.  The floor had a red carpet and the walls were a light wood paneling. A small vase was placed on the coffee table. It had two long stem roses in it.  There were also two paintings hanging on the wall. One was of a mountain scene and the other of a Victorian woman picking flowers. She was expecting more erotic artwork. She was relieved that this room was so ordinary. It was strangely comforting.
She shifted in her chair adjusting her dress, which made her small clutch fall onto the chair cushion spilling its contents out.
“Oh shit,” she muttered to herself. She quickly picked up the items and noticed that her cellphone wasn’t among them.  She set her clutch onto the coffee table then turned around to see if she could spot her cellphone. It wasn’t on the floor or on the chair. Damn, it must have slipped into the chair cushion. She bent over and began digging around. She smiled when she felt her cellphone in her hand.
“Well, aren’t you the eager one.”
She was mortified when she heard the deep masculine voice behind her.
She quickly stood then slowly turned around. She had her cellphone firmly in her hands. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t move…oh God please don’t let him be Voodoo. He had to be the most gorgeous man she had ever seen in person. His dark hair hung to his shoulders. The jeans he wore fit him really well and the black dress shirt, which he had the top two buttons open, well…holy hell…
“Sit down, girl, before you fall down. If you wanted to show me what a nice ass you had there probably was a more graceful way to do it.” He smiled brightly at her. “I’m Master Voodoo, in case you hadn’t figured that out already. And you are?”
Amanda slowly sat down. “Iris.”
“Cute. She was the servant to the gods.” He sat on the chair across from her. “Why are you clutching your cellphone?”
“I dropped it and…” She quickly grabbed her clutch and put the phone into it.
“I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you are new to this lifestyle.”
“Yes.”
“Did you have a drink at the bar?”
“Two.”
Voodoo chuckled. “Two is the limit, girl, or I would have insisted you have another drink to calm your nerves. I don’t bite. There is no need to be this nervous. Tell me, how did you find your way to this club?”
“My friend works here and it’s my birthday…and well…I have always been curious about…this…lifestyle.”
“Curious is good. I can work with curious.”
Amanda kept her gaze to the floor. She couldn’t look at him. He was just too damn perfect, and that voice…it was sinful for a man to have a voice like that.
“Here are my rules. Listen up, girl. Look at me. I want to make sure you understand.”
Amanda slowly looked up at him.
“There, that is better. I don’t know what you have been reading and quite honestly I don’t care. We all come to this lifestyle by some means. The first rule and this one is important, you are to never tell me your real name, nor will I tell you mine. While minds are slowly opening to alternative lifestyles it is still quite scandalous to be caught in this kind of relationship. I don’t know about you, but that would certainly put a damper on my life. I don’t tell you this stuff to make you feel ashamed about your desires. You should never be ashamed about your sexuality. I only insist on this first rule to protect both of us. Are you cool with this?”
“It sounds reasonable.”
“Second rule, you must always be honest with me. If you don’t like what I’m doing say so.”
“I read that in your listing.”
“Listing…oh that stupid menu thing, I’m glad you were paying attention. Tell me something truthfully. Did you pick me because of what was in my listing or because you heard that I’m easy on the eyes?”
“I picked you because you weren’t named after a god.”
Voodoo laughed.
His laughter put her more at ease.  She liked how his smile lit up his eyes.
“May I ask why you picked Voodoo as your name?”
“When I first was inducted to this club they made me choose my Master name. And like you I saw that they were all named after the various gods. In my opinion that’s kind of pompous.  While I was at home I heard this song on the radio Voodoo that you do?  I thought Voodoo was a good name, so I went with it. I hope you weren’t expecting more.”
“No, I was just curious.”
“You are brand spanking new to this, excuse the pun. Hmmm…” Voodoo’s gaze was making her nervous. “You are a pretty little thing. I give you that. Oh and by the way, you have a lovely ass.”
Amanda quickly looked to the floor.
“How do I know we will be a good fit when you don’t even know what you want? How old are you?”
“Thirty.”
“Good, you are close to my age. I have a ten year rule. I don’t like my submissive to be more than ten years older or younger than me. Don’t you have any questions, girl?”
“To be honest, I don’t know what to ask.”
“Well first, do you like the way I look? I consider myself lucky that you are so pretty. Bonus.”
“So if I wasn’t all that attractive you wouldn’t bother.”
“I didn’t say that. I said it was a bonus that you are attractive to me. I have had a wide variety of submissives in all shapes and sizes. It’s how we connect that matters to me.”
“To answer your question, what woman wouldn’t find you attractive. Surely you know that you are a very handsome man.”
“So I have been told. I’m not full of myself if that is what you are afraid of. I take good care of myself and have a certain pride in my appearance. I’m lucky genetically which makes it easier to look good. I’m going to say we find each other attractive. That’s good.”
“How long have you been in this lifestyle?”
“Since I was twenty so that makes it fifteen years. I know what I’m doing, Iris.”
“I didn’t mean to imply that. I’m…”
“Calm yourself, girl. You get wound up fast, don’t you. You asked a legitimate question. Anything else you would like to know.”
“You have been at this club for fifteen years?”
“No. I have been here about five years. My turn. What are your hard limits?”
“I’m so not prepared for this. I didn’t think about hard and soft limits until I saw that menu.”
“Wow you are a newbie.”
“I will understand if you don’t want to…hell I don’t even know what I want to do. I’m sorry I’m wasting your time.”
“Iris, take a breath, calm yourself. It’s scary to explore a new part of yourself. You are not wasting my time. If I thought that I would have excused myself already. I haven’t worked with a newbie in a while. The women who seek me out already know what they want from me.” Voodoo reached into his back pocket and took out his wallet. He handed Amanda a business card. “This is my cellphone number. I only use this number for the club. If you decide you want to explore this new part of yourself with me you can give me a call and we will set up a session. You intrigue me, Iris. I would love to be your part-time Master. I do have a small request if you decide to take me on.”
“What would that be?”
Voodoo stood. “Wear that dress and those thigh-high stockings the next time we meet.”
Amanda blushed then stood. She extended her hand to him. “I will think about all that was said here and get back to you.”
He grabbed her hand and brought it up to his lips. He softly kissed her hand. “It has been my pleasure to meet you, Iris. Happy birthday, girl.” He smiled seductively at her then released her hand. He left the room leaving her standing there.
Amanda looked down at the business card. It simply had the name Voodoo with a handcuff hooking the O’s together, and a cellphone number underneath.  She put the card in her clutch then left the room.
