Book three in the Unveiled Seductions series.
Talathion Frostbane was tasked with saving his people and took on the responsibility unflinchingly. Yet all it takes to throw his entire existence into chaos is one encounter with the wyvern-shifter he spurned two hundred years before. The passion between them is as strong as ever, but there’s no escaping the expectations of the clan. And giving in to the all-consuming desire for the dragonkin would have devastating consequences.
When Hervé Cinq à Sept travels to the Fey city of Leaich, searching for answers after someone tries to kill him, what he finds rocks his world in a variety of ways and leads him down a path of inescapable hunger. As he finds himself on his knees, lost in desperate need and heading for heartbreak, he realizes why, as a species, the dragonkin no longer believe in love. It’s so easy to lose everything—pride, independence, control—when the one you want to claim can never be yours.

Excerpt Two:
They had to get out of the club. Even through the fog of his need Hervé knew he didn’t want their first time together to be like this—a fumbling encounter on his desk or tattoo table. He wanted to be able to look at Tala as he touched him, branded him with his attention, possessed him completely, utterly, as he’d dreamed.
Reluctantly he let go of Tala’s ass long enough to reach for his amulet, intending to open a portal, but clearly the elf had the same thought and beat him to it. There was a rush of magic, so strong as to be shocking, and in a blink they were in the master bedroom at the beach house.
There was no time to even consider the extent of Tala’s power because Hervé realized not only had the elf translocated them but he’d removed all their clothes too. They were skin-to-skin and the primal rush of arousal firing through his system was almost more than Hervé could bear. The sound that broke from his throat was agonized, feral, giving aural evidence of the yearning overwhelming his soul. Ravenous, he threaded the fingers of one hand through Tala’s hair and broke the kiss. Tugging on the toffee-brown curls, Hervé gave in to the need to taste him more fully and set mouth and teeth to the other man’s neck. Elation shook him when a low moan of assent vibrated from the straining throat into his lips.
Wedging a thigh between the other man’s, Hervé shuddered at the press of the hard cock against his hip, the slick dampness illustrating the extent of Tala’s arousal. Or was it his own cock causing the trails of wetness over their stomachs? Step by step he pressed the elf backward toward the bed, aware of the rocking of their groins, the hard grasp of Tala’s hands—one on his ass, the other on the back of his head. He’d never felt weak with need before, excited beyond bearing by the knowledge he was about to make love with—no, lay claim to—another being. Within raged the urge to brand Tala with his fire, take him, take from him something elemental and necessary, as the elf had so long ago stolen a piece of his heart.

Book One in the Unveiled Seduction series.
Jakuta Dagbo knows bad weather’s approaching, even though the sky above the faie world is clear. And when Gràinne Bairdie walks into The Midnight Café wanting an arcane tattoo, he realizes the tempest raging into his life has nothing to do with wind and rain. Just one look at her brings his storm god libido, and the protective instincts he no longer trusts, to thundering life.
Gràinne’s a banshee on the run, desperate to claim the emotions she’s sure are rightfully hers and has no time to explore the sparks of need flying between herself and Jakuta. What she’s trying to do will bring the wrath of the Banshee Council down on her head, and she knows they’ll do anything to stop her.
Yet, as Gràinne and Jakuta peel back the layers of their lives, searching for the answers she needs, they can’t ignore the lightning-hot passion searing their blood. And when emotion reaches its apex, demanding complete surrender to the cyclone of desire, neither can resist. Even if it means Gràinne’s banshee wail of release will be her last.

This book was hot and I loved every second of it! Can't wait to read the rest in this series!

Book two in the Unveiled Seductions series.
Tattoo artist Jasmina is on a mission to entice her client Vidar into bed, but getting the shy, obscenely ripped troll to agree is going to take some work. Even telling him straightup she wants him doesn’t break through his reserved, polite demeanor. Just what does a jinn have to do? Maybe showing him the pleasures they can enjoy without jeopardizing their friendship will do the trick.
Beneath Vidar’s staid exterior his blood burns with the thought of having Jasmina for his own. He’s been carrying a torch for years, never thinking she’d be interested in a troll. Although he desperately wants to take Jasmina up on her offer, there’s something about him she doesn’t know, and he doubts she’ll still be interested if she finds out.
When Jasmina’s past threatens and Vidar offers her sanctuary, there’s no way to stop their passion from boiling to the surface. But despite their new closeness, secrets and dangerous enemies can destroy what they’ve built, forcing them to sacrifice everything to prove their love.

MUTUAL RELEASE

A coming of age novel about trust...on the long road to love.

X-Rated Excerpt:
A leather chair appeared from the gloom. Evan looked around, then took the seat, disappointed but intrigued. He could hear Jack’s voice, his laughter low and inviting. What the fuck? Was Gordon getting in on action while he had to watch? Then he heard Jenna’s annoying giggle and realized the club must be making her watch too, only she got to do it with her date. He sighed, leaned back, and prepared himself to be underwhelmed.
“No,” a sexy, rough female voice broke through the clamor in his head. It must have surprised everyone because all the people on the couches glanced up. “I want him. Out here.” Evan looked straight at her and saw the hot-as-shit Domme point her bullwhip right at him. He gulped, actually looked around like a dork, thinking there must be someone behind him. He was no sub.
She crooked her finger, her ruby-red moist lips drawing his gaze and making him feel positively hypnotized. His cock kept up its painful pressure along the inside of his zipper. A drop of sweat formed on his temple but he couldn’t move his arms to brush it away. All he knew… was her.
“Mr. Adams,” the disembodied voice said. “Your presence has been requested by our Mistress. Please. Do not make her wait.” The sheer curtain separating him from the crowd parted as he stood. Shoving his hands in his pockets and no longer aware of anything at all but what he wanted right now, he took the few steps down to the main floor.
“Stop!” She held up a hand. “Do not come any closer until I tell you.” She snapped her fingers. A tall man dressed only in leather pants emerged from somewhere to her left. A woman approached him, smiling and holding out a tray filled with… He stared, then shook his head, backing away, his brain on fire and his body in flight mode. “Where are you going, slave?” The woman cracked her whip. Evan sensed its bite near his cheek.
“I am no one’s slave,” he croaked out, sounding like a whiney kid.
“Perhaps. But I am not just anyone.” Before he could catch a breath, the woman was in his space. He kept his hands at his sides, knowing if he touched her he would be punished. Her full lips were inches from his. She leaned in, placed a tender kiss on his cheek, then stepped back.
“The Mistress has chosen!” the voice boomed and the room heaved a collective sigh. Evan whipped his head around, suddenly terrified and hornier than he had been in his entire existence. He closed his eyes as a loud whooshing sound started echoing around in his head in perfect time with his heartbeat. He held his ground, biting the inside of his cheek raw to keep from falling to his knees and kissing his way up her shiny patent leather shoe. The woman stood, the cape-like cloak draped around her tall, perfect body. He couldn’t move and had no idea what to do now anyway.
She took two long steps and was back in his space, tugging his tie, lifting it free of his collar and letting her lips linger over his, tempting, teasing, and bringing his body to full attention from his scalp to his toes. What in the hell was going on here? He was a sub? But the whooshing sound would not stop; it deafened him and he started to shake. The woman put her hands on his shoulders and kept kissing him just enough to make him insane. Disembodied hands removed his suit coat. Then, with a powerful jerk, She ripped his dress shirt into two scraps of expensive cotton that hung from his wrists.
His nipples hardened, his skin broke out in goose bumps. More bodiless hands unfastened his cuffs and took what remained of his shirt away. The woman kept smiling, trailing her fingertip down his chest. Evan’s lungs hurt he was breathing so hard.
“You are very…” She leaned in and touched her tongue to a nipple, making him gasp. “In need of…” She licked her way across his chest to the other hardened nub of flesh and bit, hard, making him yelp and grunt to distract himself from coming in his trousers. “A lesson in what it means to wield control.”
She unfurled the whip, keeping her lips on his skin, licking and nibbling her way up his neck as he stood, fists clenched and teeth grinding. Then she bit down on his lower lip, bringing tears to his eyes and yet more urgency to fuck. What was happening to him?
“Sit.” She shoved him down. Evan dropped, hoping someone had put a chair there. His ass hit leather and wood. Watching mesmerized as she dug a sharp heel into his still-covered thigh. The pulsing behind his zipper had reached a level he’d never experienced. It was as if he were already coming, in his head, trying to relieve the pressure without actually ejaculating. This was a total goddamn trip. He sighed, looked up at the ceiling.
“Don’t look away from me, slave.” Her rough voice made the whooshing sound return between his ears. She snapped her fingers. Two nearly naked women scuttled to his side, undid his belt, unzipped his pants, and pulled off his shoes while removing his trousers, leaving only his tie and boxers.
“Holy fucking mother of… ah!” he cried out, unable to stop when the woman stood over him, her warm, inviting sex right at his eye level. Other hands rubbed, teased him through his underwear. But he kept his eyes trained up as he sucked in a lungful of her heady scent.
“You think this is all there is, don’t you, boy?” The woman’s voice filled his head. “Your giant cock and what you can do with it.” She stepped away from him, flicking her whip at his inner thighs, breaking up the pleasure with a bite of pain that made him curse and lean forward. The lovely, soft hands that had been on his aching shaft disappeared. “Oh no you don’t. You sit; you take, and you do not come. For any reason. If you do, I will make you very,” she slid the handle of the whip along his reddened inner leg, “very sorry. Are we clear? Dear?”

Carrie's Story: The Blog Tour

Carrie's Story is regarded as one of the finest erotic novels ever written—smart, devastatingly sexy, and, at times, shocking. In this new era of "BDSM romance," à la Fifty Shades of Grey, the whips and cuffs are out of the closet and "château porn" has given way to mommy porn. Carrie's Story remains at the head of the class. Imagine The Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative literature who moonlights as a bike messenger, has a penchant for irony, and loves self-analysis as much as anal pleasures. Set in both San Francisco and the more château-friendly Napa Valley, Weatherfield's deliciously decadent novel takes you on a sexually-explicit journey into a netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, and enticing "ponies" (people) preening for dressage competitions. Desire runs rampant in this story of uncompromising mastery and irrevocable submission.

The guard led me to the platform, and I noticed for the first time that there was another nasty wrinkle to the system. They didn’t chain you down or anything. What you did was climb onto the platform and back up—until your asshole was impaled on the dildo mounted on the wall. Thoughtfully, the dildos were mounted at different heights; the guard seemed to have a sense of which was my height—well, I guess they’d get good pretty fast at figuring that one out. It was big—big, cold, smooth, and hard—and, mercifully, well greased. I winced as I backed onto it and was rewarded by a few hoots and giggles, as well as one or two promises that I’d be accommodating a lot more than that before the evening was over. Somebody tossed a little wad of paper at me, which hit my face, then, a banana peel, which kind of bounced off my shoulder. I could feel myself blush, and I bowed my head, but the guard raised my chin with the handle of his whip. The little bells hanging from my aching breasts jingled as I arched my back to help me assume the correct position. I looked at the faces at the tables, banal, jocular, cheerful, and I really did feel punished. Abased. This was different from anything I’d experienced before. I remembered Jonathan’s little speech a million years ago, the one about my jagged little edge of critical intelligence— oh please, gimme a break! These people could care less about my critical edge, about the subtleties of my consciousness, the fine balance between objectification and narrative subjectivity. I felt bereft. I didn’t like to look. I had to keep my head up, but as much as I could, I lowered my eyelids. I could see those damned little bells, shiny under the fluorescent lights and slightly blurred, beneath my slow to obey/talked out of turn placard. I put everything I had into trying not to cry.
A few more slaves were led in, I could see out of the corner of my eye. But I didn’t need to see it when Willfully Disobedient made his entrance—I could tell he was here by the excited murmur in the crowd, the jokes and catcalls, and the little missiles that started flying at him even before he got to the platform. He was the Main Event tonight, baked Alaska or cherries jubilee for dessert, no doubt about that. I forgot about my fears a little and raised my eyelids to watch.
They got him backed up on the stage and impaled, the security guard taking advantage of his own fifteen minutes of fame by slapping him hard in the face a few times and pulling and twisting at the bells on his nipples (I noticed suddenly that there was also one hanging from his scrotum). The crowd seemed to like the guard’s little show just fine, except that they would have liked to see the boy exhibit less self-control. (Secretly, frighteningly, so would I have, I realized.) Still, even I’d been able to control myself thus far, so I guess they weren’t surprised that he’d done so as well. The evening was young yet.
But they were already starting to quarrel among themselves. I mean, it was obvious to me, as well as to them of course, that not all fifty people in the room were going to get a crack at the Main Event that evening. Some of them were going to have to be satisfied with the rest of us. I didn’t know whether this was good or bad news for me.
In retrospect, I’m impressed at how well they worked it out—how cheerfully, fairly, and quickly. Of course, this was one of those countries where everybody gets more than a month of paid vacation every year and cradle-to-grave medical care, and they can’t change computer monitors without the union’s okay about the long-term health implications. Add to it an employee benefit like the one I was participating in—like the one I was—and why shouldn’t they be decent and humane? To each other, that was.
So, as far as I could follow, the rules they improvised were: Willfully Disobedient would be fucked by two teams of ten (it would have to be men, obviously, and I could see that the women were not pleased by this, but biology is destiny sometimes, even under social democracy). They’d line up on either end of him, and the idea was to compete for which team took the longest to get finished coming in him. Bets were taken, though I couldn’t figure out what the prizes would be. They hustled us off the platform and dragged it to the center of the room so that everybody could see. The asshole team grabbed a big tin of some kind of EuroCrisco that somebody had brought out from the kitchen.
The rest of us were really just bit players. They attached leashes to the rings in our collars so that they could drag us on hands and knees around the crowd (they positioned us at different points). We were popcorn at the movies, mostly, for those watching the entertainment. I was vastly relieved and, somewhere deep inside, just a little insulted. Go figure.
Anyway, I was pushed down to the linoleum floor and my leash given to a hefty woman sitting near the platform. She raised her skirt and pushed my head into her crotch, where I began to lick and suck, feeling the trembling of her big belly and thighs, and hearing the shouts and laughs from the crowd.
After a while, she jerked the leash and slapped my ass, hard, and I crawled away from her, to the next hand, this one a man, who turned me around and got down behind me to fuck me up the ass. I was glad, at least, that this allowed me to see what was happening up on the platform. About what you’d expect, I guess. Willful was on his hands and knees sucking some big guy’s cock, while the guy, who was dressed like a cook, grasped his pony tail to control the movement of his head. It was hard for me to see, but I had the idea that Willful wasn’t just a passive mouth being manipulated, but was actually putting some action behind it. Meanwhile, the guy at his asshole side, maybe an electrician or something, had just come, to cheers from the audience, and was staggering away, while his replacement began cheerily drilling away, occasioning more cheers and calls of encouragement.
This seemed to encourage the guy drilling into me. I heard myself calling out in pain and was rewarded by some hard slaps against my breasts. Finally, though, he was done, pulling himself back into his seat and handing my leash to the next person, who hauled me over her knee and started spanking me (the crowd had started up rhythmic clapping, to accompany the next mouth guy’s orgasm). And so it went, my simply following the jerks at the leash, relaxing into it as hands pushed or lifted me where they wanted me to go, breathing as well as I could, trying to stay as open as I could wherever I could. My knees were aching from crawling around the sticky floor, my face was sticky with come and tears, and the rest of me was a sticky, sweaty mess as well.
I was under another woman’s skirts when the contest was finally over, and a huge cheer rose from the crowd, accompanied by groans and boos, I guess from those who’d bet on the losers. So I didn’t get to see who won. Not that I cared. The woman grasped my head firmly, signaling that I was to finish what I was doing, and I did, until I heard her moans, and she dropped her hands entirely. A security guard picked up my leash and pulled me to my feet. I got to see Willful being pulled to his feet as well; I guess he’d fallen flat on the stage from exhaustion. The crowd shouted their disapproval at this, and then laughed as they saw how weak he was in the knees. Two big men lifted him to his feet, and then they hustled him around the cafeteria so everybody could at least get a pinch or poke at him. But he wasn’t crying. He seemed, from what I could see, interested in what was happening, bleary-eyed and mostly exhausted, but still amazingly alert.
At last, the party was breaking up. As a security guard grabbed my shoulders and turned me toward the exit door, I noticed the man in the dark glasses again, standing against a wall with his arms folded, watching everything, it seemed like. At least it seemed like he was watching me. Maybe he’s head of security or something, I thought idly, as I prepared to make my way down the corridors and back to my room. Leaving the cafeteria, I could hear a few shouts and guffaws behind me—I guessed they were still tormenting that tall, beautiful boy. And I never did find out what you had to do to be counted as willfully disobedient in that place.

Review:

How do you know you are reading one of the most influential books in the erotica genre? When it captures your attention so much you end up thinking about it even when you aren't reading it.

Carrie's Story is a book  I had heard about for several years. I hadn't picked it up yet, but when this blog tour became a reality, I knew it was time. As I sat down with the book and became immersed in the story, I found myself absorbed in the world that author Molly Weatherfield had created. Meeting Carrie and following her through her awakening into the wide world of BDSM and many of its facets was positively enthralling.

When I began the book, I did not expect to be as enraptured by Carrie's character as I was. Her relationship with Jonathan and her utter surrender to the aspects of her new life left me wanting more. Page after page I read, hungry and  hooked on every word. The subtle humiliations, the objectification, pony play, the training grounds and finally the auction were singularly captivating.

Laura Antoniou's Marketplace books affected me much in the same way. The rigid structure of the system that Carrie finds herself in is so much bigger than what she experiences as Jonathan's slave. It is this gradual process that indoctrinates the reader as well as Carrie into this new world that can be as painful and terrifying as it can be beautiful and pleasurable.

On the very last page, I wondered why in the world had I waited this long to read this masterpiece. It was provocative, filled with sexual adventures that form much of the basis for BDSM literature as we know it today. The level of feeling that we experience as readers as we grow with Carrie is astounding. I felt like I was graduating with her and putting my own items into the safety deposit box, ready to step off the next cliff. This book was indeed a literary feat, even without the sexuality that ratcheted it to a level that I have rarely seen in BDSM novels. I only hope that Ms. Weatherfield's work will in some way inspire the same depth of character in my own work. Even now as I reach for the second book in Carrie's adventure, I am anxious to see what new sensations await.

If you want an S/M novel that stays with you when you turn out the lights, then give Carrie's Story a read. Your fantasies will never be the same again.

5/5

 Safe Word (Carrie’s Story)

An Interview with Molly:

1. When you first started writing, did you know you would be writing erotica?
I wrote non-fiction, mostly reviews, for years, and never thought I had it in me to write fiction. It was the power of my erotic fantasy life that led me to erotic writing, and nobody was more surprised than I was2. What about BDSM most appeals to you as a writer?
It's all about pacing and interaction, isn't it? Not to speak of the oh-no-I-can't-believe-what's-going-to-happen-next factor.3. Chocolate cake or angel food?
Both4. Cheeseburgers or sushi?
Sushi5. Are you a pantser or a plotter?
Very much a pantser, but I do know where I want to end up6. What was the hardest scene you ever had to write?
The most technically complex one happens in Safe Word: dinner for 8 at Kate's place. It was my first orgy and I wanted everybody to have a good time. I think it worked. I had a good time anyway.7. If you could pick anywhere to go on vacation, where would you go?
In the real world, I'd go to Istanbul. In the world of fantasy, to Kate's place in Napa, or Mr. Constant's island in the Mediterranean.8. What advice would you give new erotica writers?
An indirect quote from Anne Rice's Exit to Eden: it's all in the voice.9. Open your book to any page and tell us what is happening:
No surprise: I opened Safe Word, the sequel to Carrie's Story and my personal favorite of the two books, to the passage I most like to read out loud, which takes place after Carrie's been singing (too loudly) in the bathtub, and Jonathan's been very amused to hear her:
Of course, you always pay for it, don’t you [Carrie says]. You get out of the bathtub or shower, you see the other person’s amused face, and you realize just how loudly you were belting out your song in there.

“Nice selection.” He grinned... “Come back to bed,” he added. “I lied before. I want your mouth too.”

I’d forgotten how devastating I found that little phrase. I want. Well, it was more than a phrase, after all—it was, as I could have told you at nine years old, a complete sentence, the verb sweetly agreeing with the subject in number. Number? One. Just him, his declarative, subjective singularity—taut, swollen, urgent. I want. Tense: the present. Oh yes, very tense, and very present. A simple sentence, wanting to grow, to complexify, its predicate demanding its object—give it its object.Your mouth. And I opened my mouth, and he pulled my head down on him, hard. Oh, and I want you. I want you. To want it. To want me. It. Dissolve. Drown in the ambiguity.

10. What is next for you as a writer?
No promises. But if I could tell you all what happens next for Carrie, I'd be a very happy writer.

Molly Weatherfield, the pen name of Pam Rosenthal, is also the author of Safe Word, the sequel to Carrie's Story. A prolific romance and erotica writer, she has penned many sexy, literate, historical novels. She lives in San Francisco.

Excerpt Two: (Erotic Content)

I opened my mouth another degree, and he took full advantage, sweeping his tongue against mine. His hand touched the back of my neck in a mirror image of my gesture, except instead of a caress, he tilted my head back, deepened the kiss. He put me at a disadvantage. Yes, I want that too.

His other hand fumbled briefly at my jeans before slipping them down to my thighs. I felt helpless, blinded by the dark, pinned to the wall by his body and my own clothing. Even my hearing was altered, flooded by my harsh breaths and his. Any number of men had held full control over my body before now, but this was Luke, and how quickly he had done it, how easily he had rendered me willing and my consent irrelevant. I moaned my approval.

“You’re doing it again,” he muttered.

“Doing what?”

“What you think I want.”

“How do you know it’s not what I want too?”

He paused. “Is it?”

I didn’t know. A soft, almost inaudible sob escaped.

“Shit.”

He pulled away, and I was sure it was over. Just like in his apartment, he didn’t want me anymore. But in seconds he returned, fierce, pulling at my clothes, tugging them down and away.

“Tell me to stop.” Harsh. Guttural.

“No, no.” Against the wall, I spread my arms like some sort of sacrifice, letting his hands and his curses crash over me. “Don’t stop.”

His hands parted my thighs. “You’re going to come for me, unless you stop me.”

I’ll make him want me. Both of us so determined. He would fuck me, and I would come, and then where would we be? Right here. No future, just sex. Broad fingers opened me for his tongue, pumped inside. I pushed back, halfway there.

I discovered that he swore during sex. I clenched every time, and God help me, he noticed, using it to bring me closer. “So fucking wet,” he muttered. “This can’t be fake. You didn’t lube yourself up before coming to see me, did you?”

That gave me pause, but then his finger reached a spot inside me, and I cried out.

“Shh.” He stood up, though his fingers stayed inside me, pressing right there, pushing and pulsing and oh Jesus right there. His hand covered my mouth, muffling my cries and catching a pool of tears on my cheeks.

“Let go, let go,” he muttered against my ear, and I didn’t understand. I had come, what more did he want? He explained with his hands, massaging my clit through the aftershocks until suddenly lights burst behind my eyes, and I came weakly against his palm.

Any time I read something by Amber Lin, I know it is going to gouge out my heart and stomp it. Flat. Oh yes, her books are to the core of every emotion possible, and this one hits the bottom on the very first page. Filled with dark imagery that fills the life of a woman on the edge, we meet Shelley. She is trying like hell to break out of a life she despises and goes to great lengths and personal risk to rescue under age girls that have fallen into the lifestyle of a paid by the hour escort.

One of the things that you notice right away is the depth of character and emotion we see from Shelley. She really, really hates what she has had to do to make a living. When we experience what it is like to try and apply for a job in the 'real world' it hits home in a big way.

As this story develops, the stakes only get deeper and the feeling of walking the wire gets more intense. Not for the feint of heart, this book goes right for the underbelly that you don't see much of in erotic writing. The ugly side. The sleazy guys that prey on underage girls and treat them like objects to lust after and treat like a punching bag. Kudos to Amber Lin for crafting a story that shows you the dirt and keeps you reading to find the inner story that shines through.

Hi, and thanks for having me on the blog today!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Amber Lin, author of Giving It Up, which RT Book Reviews gave 4.5 stars and called “at once, scary and sexy in all the best ways.” I’m here to share my new release, Selling Out, featuring a high class call girl and a by-the-book detective with the Chicago Police Department.

Today I’m going to talk about my favorite type of character….

On the one hand, I have always been drawn to dark topics. Gritty, raw realism. Pain, abuse, heartache. Prostitution, crime, and penury. I want to hear stories about these things, to sink my teeth into them.

I want to write these stories.

But I also write romance, which always has a happy ending. It’s sort of a safety net: go as dark and deep as you want, but know that I will catch you when you fall. When you fall, not if you fall, because every story has its dark moment, it’s loss. Every story gives you what you want, the justice, the hero, and then snatches it away.

Characters need to earn it.

My favorite type of character is the one who claws her way out of the ditch where life has thrown her, who fights her way past the people who would subdue her. I want to see her fight.

And I want to see her win.

Shelly is the heroine is Selling Out. She’s a prostitute with abuse in her past. That’s not a rare story in life, sadly, though it’s hard to find in the world of romance novels. What I love about Shelly is that she faces the repercussions of that abuse and her life as an escort with grace and humor and an inherent human kindness that refuses to be buried.

I want to see her fight and win. I want to see her try and fail. And then succeed. I fell in love with my heroine, and then had to build a hero worthy of her. One who fit the usual bill: handsome, smart, strong, loyal. All nice and fine qualities, but my love for Shelly was great. She needed someone her equal. Who would not forgive her past, but would truly understand it and help her heal. And so came Luke.

Thanks for having me, Erzabet!

Shelly Laurent escapes her life as a high-class escort, but against her better judgment she takes the scared young Ella with her. Framed for murder by her pimp and his dirty cops in retaliation, Shelly turns to the one man who could be her salvation: Detective Luke Cameron. She doesn’t know if she can trust him or if he’s just a mirage, but it's time for her to take a stand. Just one shot, make it count, she’ll fight Ella’s demons—and face her own.

Shelly throws light on the shadows of Chicago’s underworld, challenging everything she knew and the man she’s come to love. Together, a prostitute and a cop fight for truth stronger than secrets, hope deeper than deception, and a bond more enduring than betrayal.

EXCERPT

“Shh,” I murmured, stroking his back.

“Shelly, goddammit.”
But his protests fell away as I pressed my breasts to his arm and my tongue to his ear. His harsh inhalation sounded broken, shattered, or maybe that was me.
I tasted salt and man, earth and spring. Slow licks alongside his lobe and upward, more suggestive than sensation, but for a man like this, anticipation would be everything. Or so I had imagined, all the times I had dreamed of it.
A small sound escaped him, somewhere between a grunt and groan. I took it as encouragement and smoothed my hands along the hard planes of his shoulders, his chest. Not anywhere near the bulge in his jeans, because this wasn’t about pleasure—it was about wanting.
Anything to get closer, I let my knees slide apart around his side, the faint heat of his body a shock to my core. His hands clenched and opened on his knees, and again, the muscles rippled beneath his darkly tanned skin. Was he restraining himself from touching me or pushing me off?
“Baby, no,” he groaned, letting his head fall back onto my shoulder.
No, I would never deserve to have him as more than a sex partner. And he had never fucked me, though I knew he wanted to. Every time he saw me, his eyes would darken and my stomach would bottom out, but we’d never touch. But maybe for one brief inconvenient moment, while the door was open and the young woman beyond it needed help, we could pretend. Maybe it could be enough.
I shut my eyes tightly and pressed a kiss to his temple. Pretend, just pretend. I would give him the sex he had craved, and in return, he’d give me memories. It would be a payment, just the same.
“You want this,” I whispered.
He shuddered in my arms; it was like hugging a wild animal, one who could just as easily maul me as cuddle.
“Can I touch you?” he whispered. “Please.”
It unraveled me, that plea. As if he understood that a little bit of my soul slipped away every time someone touched me. As if he would cherish the part I gave him.
I scrambled away from him as if burned, breathing hard. No.
No one understood, which was exactly the way I liked it. I ran a shaking hand over my face to smooth away the panic.
Sure, he knew the score better than most people. He had worked the beat as a patrol cop and then as a detective. Life as a high-priced escort wasn’t glamorous; it was sweat and blood sprinkled with glitter. But he didn’t know the full extent, and I prayed he never would. Henri didn’t sell bodies; he gutted them.
I panted against the headboard, unable to walk away but unwilling to beg. Luke remained carved in stone where I’d left him sitting on the edge of the bed. The air pulsed with doubt and longing—with sex.
“I want it to be real between us.” He spoke low and hoarse.
A quiet sound escaped me. Every caress, every pinch. Every slur ever spoken. “It’s always real. That’s the problem, Luke. It’s always too damn real.”
He hung his head, and I thought for a moment I heard him say I know, but the moment slipped away, the sweet intimacy sailed away like clouds on the horizon—never really mine.
