Book Description:

Trust comes at a price.

Jenson Parkinson can't believe it when Sloane Marlen shows up at his Colorado mountain fire station. They were lovers years ago, until Sloane broke Jenson's trust, and his heart.

Sloane knows he's not guilty of the misdeeds Jenson believes he committed, but he never figured out how to convince Jenson. Or how to get over him. Can Sloane grab this second chance with both hands and teach Jenson he's worthy of trust... and love?

Excerpt:

“The training session will start tomorrow morning at nine AM.” Jenson looked at his guys, some of them volunteer, a few career, and gave them the stern eye. “I know we all have jobs to do, but they’re expecting a wildfire season like no other this year thanks to the drought, and the Forestry Service wants all able bodied personnel to be able to dig firelines, offer support to hot shots and smokejumpers, and know how not to die.”

They all murmured, but no one argued. Carroll, Colorado was big enough to have a permanent fire crew only because of the ski areas that surrounded it, the population transient but relatively wealthy. Their very existence in this Rocky Mountain paradise was predicated on the fact that people had expensive homes and vacation rentals which they’d never let burn down. Jenson frickin’ loved his life. He didn’t want to have to move back to Denver or Boulder or someplace.

“They’re sending several scientists who should help map possible fire routing and containment, as well as two of their lead trainers in hot shots and smokejumping. In addition to our regular duties, we’ll be giving full attention and support to the training team so that we can deploy and offer assistance during the wildfire season. Clear?”

His men and women all nodded, and Jenson gave them all a tight smile. “Good deal. Assignments have been posted for the new shifts. See Josh for all the deets.” Jenson left the meeting room, ready to get on with his day as best he could. He had to get the station ready for the influx of personnel he was about to have, not just the trainers but the firefighters from other small towns around the area. He knew it was a coup for the mayor that Carroll was chosen for this big get together of high mucky mucks, but really, all he knew was he was going to be handing out coffee and doughnuts to a bunch of assholes who did a lot of dick measuring and making a mess in his territory.

“You ready for this, Cap?” Carson Diets asked. Carson was a Forestry guy, and he worked closely with the Carroll department to keep their area clear and keep the campers educated.

“No.” He winked, though, trying for light and happy. “If I get through this without losing my shit we’ll all be grateful. It’s good for the guys, though, right? Trading ideas and shit.”

“Yep.” Carson stepped close and lowered his voice. “There are a couple of real big names in the biz coming, Jenson. Just be diplomatic, huh?”

“Don’t make you look bad, is that what you’re saying?” He grimaced. “Come on, man, I got your back. You know that.”

“I do know that.” Carson clapped him on the back. “I also know you have a reputation for ruling this place with an iron fist and being pissy when someone invades your territory.”

“Well, I’ll try to be all sweetness and light. I don’t suppose you have a roster of who’s coming so I can prepare myself?”

“I do.” Carson pulled out his phone. “I’ll email it to you.”

“Great. Thanks.” His head started to throb, his temples tight and his neck freezing up. Lord. He needed more coffee before he could deal with this shit. His phone chimed, an email popping up from Carson when he looked at his notifications. Jenson walked into his office and set up his K-Cup coffee maker for a hazelnut cream latte. That was his one luxury, because he was from Boulder, dammit. He loathed the Folgers sludge the other guys seemed to adore so much.

He sat at his desk and opened the email, a forward of an interdepartmental memo. When he read the list of presenters, Jenson’s eyes widened. Oh, Jesus fuck. No way. He tried to blink away the name he’d just read, but when he opened his eyes it was still there.

Sloane Marlen.

Jenson leaned back in his chair, letting his head thunk against the backrest. He hadn’t seen Sloane since they were probies, and he really never wanted to see the bastard again.

There wasn’t enough coffee on earth to make this shitty day better now. Jenson was never gonna make it through tomorrow.

Heat sizzles during the winter…

During their days and nights together, she learns about the man betrayed by his own. She falls for him and when danger arrives again, she puts herself in harm’s way to ensure that he isn’t killed.

He lied to her about his last name, thrust her into danger, and yet through it all she stayed at his side. When it is all over, will he be able to hold onto the woman who found him one cold night?

Review:

I always enjoy reading this author and in particular, tales about rescue and redemption. And yes...dogs can totally be better than people. (I have a pack so I might just be biased!) This tale was a page turner from the get go and the sexy scenes were melty. *grin*

Excerpt:

Leena shivered and burrowed her hands further into the oversized men’s jacket, ducking her head further below the upturned collar. The snow whipped around her, biting exposed skin with a hungry ferocity.
“Come on, Argo,” she muttered. “Unlike you, I don’t relish being out here.” Like he could see her—or respond in words, she shrugged. “Not at night anyway. Especially at a rest area.”
The winds carried his deep bark to her and her shoulders sagged. I know what that means. There would be no return trip to the van until she went to see what he wanted. “Argo, hier!” she pitched her voice to carry over the wind and pelting snow.
She stomped her feet, wishing once more she was back in the van and on the road, headed home. The trip had been a long one, good, but long. From the darkness he appeared like a rocket who’d locked in her trajectory, snow flew out from his bounding strides. He executed a perfect sit before her as if there weren’t all that snow under his ass.
“Good boy,” she praised, before giving him her unique release command. “Wazzu.”
He barked again and backed up now that he’d been released. His intentions plain. Her heart broke for a moment; he looked so much like his father. Her heart dog. Another bark followed by a spin and two bounces in the other direction.
“I’m coming. Two legs, not four here.” She struck out after him, cursing as the land dipped down, causing her to slide through the knee-deep snow. Her dog led her to a thick copse of trees where he barked at a log, lying partially in the freezing river.
She brushed a wet curl away from her face. “Seriously? You wanted me to see you bark at a log? I should kill you. Let’s go.”
He ignored her and stepped closer to the water. Her mouth dropped open when he grasped something in his jaw and yanked. Shit, that’s a person.
She scrambled over by Argo, driving him back with a single word. It was a man, the blowing snow had partially covered him and his lower body still lay submerged in the icy water.
“Shit.” She shifted and bent to grasp him beneath his arms, then pulled. By the time she got him free of the water, she was panting. He wasn’t small by any stretch. His body riddled with burn marks, wounds, and absolutely no clothing.
Without thought, she shrugged out of her coat and covered him. On her, it went past her calves. On him, it barely hit his knees.
“What the fuck happened to you?”
“Leave me,” he rasped before he collapsed, completely unconscious.
“Sure, because I was raised to leave half frozen naked men alone. I don’t suppose you’re just pretending to be unconscious, are you?” Of course not. “Fuck me sideways, this is going to suck.” She bent back down and got to the arduous task of moving him to safety.
It took her nearly twenty minutes to drag him up to her van that thankfully she’d parked close to where she was coming up. The wind had picked up along with the snow, making her all the more pleased to have Argo with her. The parking lot was vacant on her end, everyone else having parked near the restrooms.
Per her norm, she’d chosen an empty area so the dogs she travelled with wouldn’t be around everyone. Especially when she let them stretch their legs. She paused, digging in her pants pocket for her keys, then unlocked her van.
“This is how serial killers get into your life, Leena. You bring them in.” She opened the side door, immediately saying, “Blibe.” The three dogs there stayed as ordered and she returned to the unconscious, still naked man lying in a heap.
Her own strength waning, she grunted and groaned as she maneuvered him into the vehicle. “Usually I’m having sex when I mutter and grunt this much. Or I think I do, haven’t had any in a while so I’m not sure how it goes.”
Once inside the van, she reached and closed out the cold once Argo had jumped in. At least until he shook. Her dogs were interested in her newcomer but she moved them aside as she took him to the bench seat converted to a bed in the back. She reached around him and removed the jacket, doing her best to ignore his cock that lay against his leg.
“Maybe you’re not all cold.”
She drew back the blankets and nearly lay him back but a moment of hesitation for the injuries on his back were a problem that needed addressing. Reaching over him to the rear of the van, she grabbed the first aid kit she always carried from where it rested in its spot. Then set about cleaning his injuries.
“Someone sure did a number on you, man.” Shallow cuts, deep cuts, burns, and more bruising than she cared to think about. She worked swiftly to be able to get him under the blankets.
More thoughts of his cock filled her as she moved it aside to clean the gash on his inner thigh. Thoughts she brushed away.
He groaned as she lay him on his back. “I know it hurts and I’m sorry. Either side will hurt, not much I can do about that. You’ll be warm in just a bit.”
He lay on her electric blanket and below three others heavy blankets. Scrambling to the front, she started the ignition then returned to adjust the heat to the lowest setting on the blanket. Unsure of how long he’d been submerged in the water, she didn’t want it totally hot, that would be hella painful when feeling returned. Better to do low and allow the warmth work its way up.
“Heat from both sides.”
She covered him again and watched as the two bitches lay on either side of him before her youngest dog curved his body around the man’s feet.
She stuffed the cleaning supplies in the trash and reached for her bag. After drawing out a dry sweatshirt, she hesitated a second before she scoffed at herself.
“Just got done touching his naked body, the man’s unconscious, and I’m hesitant about stripping in front of him.” She removed the sodden item and draped it over the crate against the side. Then pulled on the dry one. Then she shucked the snow pants, leaving her in dry jeans.
Her stomach rumbled, reminding her it was time for some food. “I know, I know.”
She glanced at the bed and smiled, he wasn’t visible with the dogs around him. “No heat like dog heat. Come on, boy.”
She went back to the driver’s seat and slid over the fabric. Her full size van may not have been new but it was all hers and ran superbly. Argo hopped into the passenger seat, turned two circles, and lay down on the bed she’d created for him there. Rubbing his head, she hit the windshield wipers.
“You’re taken care of, now it’s my turn.” He grunted. “Almost home, boy. Just a few more hours.”
He yawned and closed his eyes.

How do you pass the time handcuffed to somebody who gets on your nerves?
All journalist Roxie Diamond wants is the chance to ride out with the London night patrol. Reporting on women who sell their bodies to survive is her latest assignment and she's on the case. Trouble is, the two hot cops she's partnered with couldn't be more different, Officer Rudy is displeased to have a tag-along, but he can brood all he likes while she admires his partner's cute ass and broad shoulders.

Roxie doesn't count on being mistaken for an accessory in human trafficking. Before she knows it she's snatched, interrogated, and her world is turned upside down. Just as well her sullen cop takes her safety seriously. Though how much help he'll be when she finds herself handcuffed to him in an abandoned warehouse, locked up for goodness knows how long, she doesn't know.

Will he open up? Protect her? Will the anger in his eyes turn to desire when she confesses her lust? Will he admit to the passion she can feel brimming beneath his surface? And can they really do that, while in such a dangerous predicament? And just how close is he to his partner?

Excerpt:

Roxie Diamond shoved her phone, lipstick, and keys into her shoulder bag. Her stomach was tense with excitement and her chest held a fluttery feeling. She’d been waiting for this opportunity for months. Her boss at the newspaper had pulled strings and called in favors to get her out on the beat, and now, finally, it was going to happen. She’d be winning prizes for her real life insight into the women who worked the streets of London before she knew it.
She grinned and checked her teeth for lipstick in the mirror. She hoped she’d get a hot cop to ride with. But more than that she wanted a guy who was chatty, didn’t mind dishing the dirt, telling her how it really was on the streets of London with the prostitutes, the johns, and the crime lurking in the shadows.
Satisfied she was looking the part in black boots with a heel, red jeans, and a denim jacket over a black shirt, she headed out of her apartment. She’d wanted to look casual yet smartish. She needed to blend in, but not look like an officer because she wasn’t. She was an investigative reporter, an independent woman with a career on the up. If she was given the information, the insight, she knew damn well she was one of the best on the team for delivering quality, impartial, informative journalism.
It was dark and cold as she stepped outside. It was also nearing midnight. The air held a light mist that dampened her hair and cooled her cheeks. Without lingering, she headed for the Tube station, her heels clicking on the ground.
She wondered what it was like for the prostitutes who hung around on street corners on nights like this. They’d be cold and likely hungry and in need of a fix, but in spite of this, still touting for business, hoping to offer their shivering, skinny bodies in exchange for cash.
What was the city doing to help these women? Where did they come from? What became of their children? Who were the men who sought them out? Why did these woman risk rape, a beating, and murder on a nightly basis?
These were all questions Roxie wanted to address, those and many more. A couple of nights on patrol would hopefully give her the police perspective of the problem. One thing she already knew was these men were on the front line, the good guys with a tough job.
Before long she arrived at Hackney police station. It was a tall concrete building, a 1970s design, and covered in gray pebbledash that appeared black now the rain had gotten to it. There was a single light on in the entrance way that shone through the blue tinted glass window with POLICE written on it.
The door was unlocked, so she stepped into the warmth and up to reception.
“Can I help you?” a uniformed officer asked from behind a tall desk. A large black clock behind him showed that it was now nearly half past midnight.
“Hi, yes.” She smiled. “I’m here for Sergeant Vincent Taylor.”
“And you are?” He didn’t smile back.
Roxie tightened her grip on the handle on her bag, refusing to be intimidated by his steely stare. “I’m Roxie Diamond. He should be expecting me. I’m shadowing him on his shift tonight. Arranged by Phil Ray at News World.”
He continued to stare at her.
“If you could let Sergeant Taylor know I’m here,” she said, her patience wearing thin, but her smile still steady.
He frowned and picked up a black telephone to his right. Hit a button on the top left corner. “Vince. You expecting a…” He flicked his index finger at her.
“Roxie Diamond, News World.”
“Some journalist called Ms. Diamond. Says she’s going out with you tonight.” He was quiet for a moment. “Right you are.” He put the phone down.
“Well?” Roxie asked when he said nothing but bent his head to a ledger.
“Take a seat. He’ll be here in a minute to get you.” He didn’t look at her.
“Thank you.” She glanced behind herself. There was a row of orange plastic chairs bolted to the wall. She sat and put her bag on her lap. She hoped Vincent Taylor would be less grumpy than the guy on reception. He seemed as though he’d had his fill of humanity and was beyond disappointed with what he’d seen.
“Hey, you must be Roxie.”
She turned at the sound of a deep, but upbeat voice.
“Hi,” she said, taking in the sight of a tall, nice-looking police officer with blond hair and blue eyes. “Yes, that’s me.”
“Pleased to meet you.” He held out his hand, the material on his black top creasing slightly at his shoulder.
She took his hand, enjoying the warmth of his palm and the way his big fingers squeezed hers, just a little.

Blurb:
Where there’s smoke, there’s dragon fire.

Ordinary girl. Extraordinary fate.

Violet Winters is having a less than perfect day. Her parents are meddling with her love life (again), her wintery magic is kaput and her vivid dreams are coming far too close to reality. When she falls through the ice after seeing her fiancé all close and snuggly with a fellow polar bear, all bets are off. Is she better off dead or will she get another chance at life when a Grimare angel rescues her from her chosen fate?

Fire meets ice and passions ignite.

Dante is a dragon on a mission: fight the string of strange fires springing up around Westmore and find a mate. When his Captain decides to have the men pose for social media shots to garner attention for the station, Dante finds himself in the middle of a steady stream of women after his special strategically placed “fire hose.”

At Hot Whips Café to haggle with the owner for counter space for their new firemen calendar, he meets a woman who sets his inner scales on fire. Can he save her from the machinations of the Fates or will she die a second time by the very threat Dante fights against?

A dragon’s panty melting kiss may just be the wow this curvy girl needs.

Excerpt:
“Come on, Dante, show us a little leg.” The smirking photographer circled in front of him and it was all Dante could do to control the dragon scraping beneath his skin to avoid reaching out and shoving the camera up his ass.

Pictures for social media. The Captain had officially lost his fucking mind. The catcalls and male laughter from the rest of the guys made him lose his footing and the fire hose he’d been using as a prop to conceal his nakedness began to slip.

“Jesus. Fix that hose. This isn’t internet porn, you know.” The Captain groused, scowling.

Dante scrambled to catch the hose and cover himself and balanced against the newly washed and waxed fire engine, trying to pretend he was anywhere else but standing like a prize bull at an auction.

“If you’ll hold still, please. The others have already contributed their shots. You’re the last one.” The cameraman huffed, turning the lens. He lowered the camera and glared at Dante. “You could smile maybe?”

Shit. He was distracted by the wacked out dream he’d had the night before. A woman he’d never met swam in front of him, dying. Her long black hair fanned out in the cold, dark water and he’d panicked. He’d told her to live.

“Fine.” Dante growled, a wisp of smoke curling out from behind his lips. He felt the change sliding beneath his skin, the dragon agitated by his distress.

“God, Dante. Come on.” Carter laughed. “You aren’t afraid of a little flashing light, are you?” The rest of the crew laughed, sharing in the good natured ribbing.

“Bastard.”

He just wanted it to be over. His beast wanted to fly and hunt and if he didn’t get out of here soon, he was going to lose his mind. Most of the men here were either dating or married. He wasn’t and the urge to mate had made his already bad temper even worse.

The Captain had lured him and the others in with the promise of a social media boost to help the department. He figured a couple of pictures for Instagram like that vet that had so many followers it was insane. Model pretty with a gaggle of women trailing behind him like no tomorrow. The guy had even been on national television recently. Cap was dreaming, but he also knew the man would do anything to save their department from going strictly volunteer.

So many in the country had gone that route and the bear shifter was fighting it tooth and claw. Dante supported that. He’d moved from his home in the mountains to come here after his buddy Carter had told him about the job. Happy and with a large family of cat and dragon shifter young, his friend would do anything to ensure things stayed status quo. So would he, and apparently that included standing naked in front of a freshly polished firetruck.

Thank God his mother couldn’t see him or he’d never hear the end of it. She’d been writing him emails nonstop asking if he’d met any promising women. Jesus. He’d never seen a woman more eager to fuss over grandchildren. But he hadn’t and the prospects didn’t look very favorable. Not that he hadn’t dated. He had. But no female he’d met even sparked his interest past the typical curves and tight jeans and it wasn’t enough. Not anymore.

He wanted a mate. Someone to come home to and warm his bed and his heart. Most of the women he’d come across only wanted one thing—to bang a fireman and brag to their friends.

“Well, that’s about as good as I’m going to get if you’re going to scowl like that.” The photographer capped his lens and sighed, stalking off toward the Captain. “You can get dressed now.”

“Jerk.” Dante swiped the robe he’d worn from the floor and shrugged into it.

“Man, you really need to learn to crack a smile, buddy.” Carter grinned as he and a few of the others approached now that the photographer had gone.

“Thank you, guys. Dante.” The Captain came forward giving Dante a narrow eyed look, then nodded toward the remainder of the group. “We should see the finished product in a day or so.”

Wait. Product?
