Melissa hesitated for an uncomfortable moment before she reached up to give him hug. He sucked in a breath of air, and stiffened at the contact, but didn’t return the sentiment.
Oh dear. She cocked her head back on her neck to peer up at him, waiting to see if she’d get anything from him.
Just when she’d decided to go into retreat mode and pretend the indifference hadn’t cut her to the bone, his dark gaze darted to her mouth. She licked her lips. Slowly. Twice. Not on purpose, it just happened. Honest.
A low growl sounded from somewhere in the room. She assumed it must be a dog; after all, this was a veterinary clinic. Though she felt a rumble within his chest, right under her hand that had somehow found its way to the area over his heart.
“Melissa, I…”
“What?” she whispered.
Jamie shook his head slowly. His face seemed to be getting closer to hers. The distance from his mouth to hers, that only moments ago appeared miles away, now seemed so negligible.
And then she felt it. The feather light pressure of his lips on hers. Was she imagining it? Would she blink and be back on the other side of the reception counter while he glared at her from across the open space?
Melissa risked a breath in and opened her mouth on a tiny gasp. He took the opportunity and slipped his tongue between her lips and dipped inside. A groan erupted between them. She felt a tug on her shoulder. Then her purse slipped down her arm and landed with a heavy thump on the floor next to her feet. She returned to touching him. She needed to feel the softness of his cotton shirt beneath her palm. Shouldn’t she be feeling the coarseness of the lab coat?
Strong hands settled on her waist. Long fingers dug into her hips. Firm lips smashed against hers. He kissed her like there was no tomorrow. And maybe the world was ending and she hadn’t received the memo. Melissa explored the inside of his mouth. Mmm. She tasted mint and something sweet like strawberry jam.

And suddenly, he pushed her away so fast she stumbled again, but this time he didn’t attempt to help her. Regardless, she managed to find her footing before she did fall on her rear and embarrass herself further.
Jamie’s expression, closed and locked down tight, offered no consolation.
The man she’d met yesterday entered the room behind Jamie. His business partner. Daniel. The other sexy one.

Shoes are my addiction, but books are my passion. I grew up with a love for reading. I read constantly. Probably too much some days. I read many genres of romance, but prefer to write sexy stories. I try to add some humor, and certainly my stories come with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about. Oh, and always a happily ever after.
I juggle a full time job and a family. Not always successfully. Clean house? Who needs one? And what's wrong with cereal for dinner? I live in Ontario, Canada with my wonderfully supportive husband, three awesome kids who are growing up way too fast, and Rocky the bearded dragon.
Plenty of ideas are rolling around in my head all the time. So I can't wait to write that next story.
Review:
Anne Lange is an author on my follow list and for a good reason. Her books are filled with sensual imagery and it never fails I want to live in the worlds she has created. Her Vault series is just such a place. A club with sexy Doms and succulent submissives who enjoy the feel of a paddle on their skin.
In this book we have a past romance that ended badly. Melissa wants to make it up to Jaime but there are some issues with communication. The sex scenes were smoking hot and push a little toward boundaries.
A great read.
