Primal Song by Danica Avet: The Interview

Deputy Daisy Picou is not impressed when Ram Reinhardt prowls into town all rock star swagger and big cat ego. She’s been burned by a lion before and has no intention of playing the fool twice. But with one scorching glance the mating frenzy ignites and passion trumps reason. An intense first encounter levels Daisy’s reservations—and most of her living room. And she’s not so sure she minds.

Ram Reinhardt has burned through and brushed aside just about every adrenaline-inducing thrill life’s thrown at him. But Daisy sets the gold standard for a premium rush. Her combative personality should turn him off, but every time they fight they end up in bed, or on the floor, or against a wall—and the sex is always more combustible than the time before. And he’s not about to give that up. Ever.

1. How did you get started writing erotica?

It was actually kind of an accident. I just wanted to tell a story, not really thinking about the love scenes, but when it was time to write that first one it was a lot hotter than I intended. I blushed my way through it, thinking I’d edit it later until I realized it fit my characters. Since then I’ve just upped the ante a little more with each book.

2. What is your favorite part about being an author?

I love getting emails from readers. It’s great to get reviews online, but a personal note from someone who simply has to tell me how much they enjoyed my book is like a hug from a stranger (except not in a creepy, perverted kind of way).

3. Margarita or mineral water?

If I had to choose, it’d be the margarita.

4. Cheese pizza or sushi?

Sushi all the way.

5. Writing about cat shifters is so much fun. Tell us about Daisy and Ram.

Well, Ram is actually the cat shifter in the relationship. He’s a lion who doesn’t want a pride of females and when he sets sights on the sexiest bear shifter he’s ever seen…well, he’s all over that. Daisy isn’t inclined to trust lions, but Ram is hotter than a south Louisiana summer and her hormones say “mine”.

6. What inspired you to write the Cajun Heat series?

It originally started out as a BDSM series, to be completely honest. I wrote a little on it and realized it wasn’t my forte. Then I started thinking about the small towns that surround me, the little quirks of the Cajun culture and thought how awesome it would be to write a book about shifters who live in one of those communities.

7. Do you have a playlist for Primal Song?

I have about two hundred songs on constant rotation that I used to write Primal Song. It ranges from Megadeth to The Beastie Boys to Santigold to Slipknot, but it leans heavily toward heavy metal and hard rock than anything else.

8. What was the hottest scene you have ever had to write?

I think it was in my upcoming release, Primal Design (book two in the Cajun Heat series). Let’s just say there’s an alley and someone watching and leave it at that ;) Wouldn’t want to ruin it for y’all.

9. What advice would you give to someone new to the erotica genre?

Hmm, I’d probably say to trust yourself. Most writers are readers, think like your readers. Try to imagine what they would want to see and do it. Also, throw some left turns (unexpected twists) in your stories to keep them turning pages.

10. What are you currently working on?

I’m working on book three of the Cajun Heat series. It’s not coming to me easily, but battling with a tiger shifter is nothing compared to dealing with cranky grizzlies, LOL.

Thanks Danica for stopping by the blog to visit with us today! I can't wait to get started reading and check out some of that Cajun heat!

  1. Wonderful interview! I already have this one on my TBR. :)
I love feline shifters and think this one sounds so interesting with the mixing of species.
    Thank you for sharing.
