From the Boots Up

Meg Tallmadge has more than enough on her plate. She’s finishing up a college degree, getting ready to apply to vet school, and working another summer with her dad, Stan, on the family ranch in southern Wyoming. He’s managed to get the Los Angeles Times to send a reporter out to do a story on the Diamond Rock, which doubles as a dude ranch. Meg knows the ranch needs all the publicity it can get to bring in more customers, but she’s not looking forward to babysitting a reporter for a week. When the originally scheduled reporter can’t make it, Meg worries that they won’t get a story at all, which is worse than dealing with a city slicker for a few days. Fortunately for Stan and the ranch, the Times finds a replacement, and Meg prepares to be under scrutiny, under the gun, and the perfect hostess. She knows what this opportunity means to her father, and she’s hoping that if it goes well, it’ll ease some of the distance between them that resulted when she came out a few months earlier.

What Meg’s not prepared for — and never expected — is the reporter herself and the effect she has on her. In spite of what she feels, Meg can’t risk the fallout that could result from overstepping a professional boundary. But as the week draws to a close, it becomes clear that not taking a chance could be the biggest risk of all.

Novella, 35,000 words (about 180 Kindle Fire pages)

Review:

This book hooked me right from the first page. Meg was a character that drew me in and I found myself rooting for her. In the book Meg has just come out to her father and feels torn between disappointing him and living the life she wants to live. When a reporter shows up to do the story and ends up being the woman Meg helped out with car issues, she is one cooked goose. Can she fight the attraction to the fiery reporter or give in to the feelings bubbling up inside of her?

A great read with some f/f erotic scenes that made my heart happy.

What did I like?

The chemistry between the characters.

What didn't I like?

There were some minor editing points that didn't change how I felt about the story at all.

4.5/5 Great read!

Breathless Monday: The Grey Curse

Author Interview:
1. How did you start writing erotic romance?
I'm not really sure. I think it just sort of happened when I wasn't paying attention. *laughs* I guess it stemmed from all the romance novels I've read.

2. Plotter or pantster?
I'm a little of both. I like to plot out at least the main things I want to happen and the characters. The rest usually just pops into my head as I go.

3. What are three things you have on your writing desk?
My desktop computer, a notebook to scribble down notes, and some kind of caffeinated beverage, either iced coffee or a Coke.

4. Favorite food?
That really depends on my mood. Usually, it's french fries or strawberry cheesecake.

5. Tell us a little about your new release. What character in the book really spoke to you?
My book is a Paranormal Romance about vampires, witches, and a curse. The character that really spoke to me throughout the whole process was Decan Colt, the main male character who also happens to be a vampire.

6. I write because ____...
I write because it is something I have always loved. It's a way for me to relax and forget about the real world, even for just a little while.

7. What is your favorite type of character to write about?
I love writing about strong women. The kind that doesn't need a man to complete them, but isn't above letting one do the rescuing if needed.
8. What is the sexiest scene you ever wrote?
Probably my very first sex scene. I had never written one before and I was a little intimidated at first.

9. What advice would you give new authors in the erotica/romance field?
It's okay to be a little embarrassed when writing your sex scenes. They are very intimate scenes and sometimes can be a little intimidating  getting things worded just right without seeming over the top or silly.

10. What is next on your writerly horizon?
I have a couple of books in my head, vying for my attention. One is a short Christmas sequel to The Grey Curse. The other is about the Greek Goddess of Fate, Lachesis.

Book excerpt:
"This one's the last of her line. There are no others, Deke." He held up a file and tossed it to Decan.
Catching it, he thumbed through the small stack of papers and moved back to his recliner. "Selena Michelle Grey, born October 31st, 1991. Hair, blonde. Eyes, blue. Only child to Thomas and Melissa Grey." Decan closed the folder and leaned back in his chair. The last Grey. It meant his life's purpose had almost been completed. What would he do when the time came when there were no more "missions"? There had been a time when it had seemed impossible. He had spent his exceedingly long life fulfilling his mother's wishes. Running a hand through his hair, he gave it a tug before peering back up at his maker.
"After this one, I'll be free?"
Nikolai's lips turned up in a small smile. "You'll be free. You know the drill. You have until her twenty-first birthday to do recon. Study her habits—where she goes, who she sees. October thirty-first, you strike."

Before Decan could blink, the elder man disappeared. He glanced back down at the file in his hands and smirked. The last Grey. How would he deal with this one? A fire? Or maybe a drowning? It happened a lot with the Ohio River being so close. Whatever he did, he had to make sure it looked like an accident. They didn't need people looking for a murderer. It was one of their rules. Always make it appear accidental. Decan couldn't afford to be caught. After 100 years, he had gotten good at his job. First, with Violet Grey. Then Mary Sue and April Grey, Nancy Grey Callis and last had been Elizabeth Grey. Five women he'd killed, all in his mother's name. But they had deserved it, they all did. And now this one would die and fulfill his mother's curse.

Stone Cover Reveal

Welcome to the cover reveal for STONE: AT YOUR SERVICE an erotic romance by Rie Warren, coming September 25th to a book retailer near you! This post is part of a tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions.

Rie will award a Carolina Bad Boys swag pack including an ARC of Stone to a randomly drawn winner during the tour via the rafflecopter at the end of this post (International winner).

Check out this gorgeous cover and find out more about the upcoming release:

And here's what the story is about!

One bad boy mechanic, one sexy romance writer, and an impossible situation. Hell on wheels? More like hell in high heels.

Bad boy mechanic Josh Stone likes to get his hands dirty any way he can—the filthier, the better. Ever since his wife walked out on him and their young son, he’s only had room in his heart for two loves: the kid and cars.

Roped into playing his best buddy’s gay boyfriend during a romance writers convention, the player meets the girl who’s gonna rock his world. Leelee Songchild. Shy, bashful, beautiful Leelee who blushes at the drop of a hat yet writes hardcore smut to rival Josh’s backlist of Penthouse Forum.

The only problem is his hands are tied. Josh can’t stab his old friend/fake lover in the back even though all he wants to do is take luscious Leelee to bed, and maybe, love her. When the truth comes out, all hell breaks loose. Too bad romance is just for books.

WARNING: Uncompromisingly hot sex, hilarious hijinks, and heartfelt romance—STONE is a triple threat.

How about a sneak peek to whet your appetite?

Ramada’s valet parking sucked balls and cost a mint. The hotel was lit up like a fairytale palace—or a whorehouse, depending how you looked at it--with people coming and going. It was busier than Stone's before a holiday weekend, when everyone in the tri-counties seemed to get a flat tire. Bellhops wearing pained grins pushed wheeled-carts toppling over with boxes from the convention attendees through the carousel doors.

I wielded our cart into the lobby, following Nicky as he strolled up to the check-in desk. His demeanor changed the second we walked through the doors. Gone was the scrappy South Cackalackee bruiser who knew how to take a hit and knock a fucker to the ground. He rolled up the sleeves on his oxford twice, neatened his hair back into a slick knot, and greeted people with effortless charm.

While we stood in line and he made small talk here and there, a commotion at the back of the queue drew my attention. A gal wrangled with her cart and then watched—eyes and mouth open wide—as four boxes crashed to the floor. Books, dresses, shoes, wigs . . . lingerie swam onto the polished marble floor.

I noticed her cock-up with the cart first.

Her legs second.

Her tits third.

Her face last.

Holy fuck.

“Who the hell is that?” I whispered, pointing at the babe surrounded by ten tons of shit spilling all over the floor.

Nicky glanced over my shoulder. “No idea. New kid on the block, I guess.”

“I’m gonna go help her.” I shouldered through the crowd and squatted down before her. “Need a hand?” Because one thing Ma had taught me was always help out a woman in need.

She blew a tendril of the lightest red hair from her brow. “I’d sure appreciate it.”

And I was a goner.

I packed her stuff back up under her guidance and stacked it smartly onto the cart, willing myself not to look at her as I stepped back. Definitely not remembering the lace, the frills, the full-on feminine lingerie I’d handled.

“My knight in shinin’ armor?”

Shaking my head, I backed away. I saw Nicky at the elevators, waiting for me. “Not really, miss.”

A runaway countess finds love when she least expects it…but she can’t hide from her past forever.

Elizabeth, Lady Beauchamp, fears for her life. When she discovers her dissolute and long-estranged husband has syphilis—and he wants to beget an heir no matter the cost—she flees to a remote part of Scotland to begin a new life as the widowed governess, Mrs. Beth Eliott at Eilean Tor Castle.

When Mrs. Eliott unexpectedly arrives on his doorstep, the reclusive and recently widowed Marquess of Rothsburgh is both irritated and intrigued. No longer in need of a governess—his young daughter now resides with his sister’s family in Edinburgh—he proposes the beautiful widow fill a position of a different kind…

Torn between staying true to her marriage vows and her wanton attraction to the devilishly handsome marquess, Elizabeth struggles against the temptation to become his mistress. But living a lie is not easy when you have fallen in love. And secrets always have a way of coming out…

Enjoy an excerpt:

Harcourt House, London, September 1815

Elizabeth sat before her cherrywood dressing table, determinedly brushing her hair with slow methodical strokes, trying in vain to relax. The simple routine always used to be soothing, a balm to her taut nerves.

But not anymore.

Especially not tonight.

The grandfather clock in the hall outside suddenly heralded the hour. Midnight.

With a shaky sigh, she placed the brush upon the silver tray and glanced at her candle-lit reflection. A grave young woman stared back at her; shadows as dark as bruises marred the usually pale skin beneath her grey eyes. She was so tired. And so anxious, she felt as brittle as a dried-out birch twig that was going to snap at any moment.

But she couldn’t break now. All going well, in six hours she would be gone from here in a hired cab that was scheduled to arrive in the mews behind the servants’ entrance where her travelling trunk had been carefully stowed. Despite her fatigue, she doubted that she would be able to sleep at all between now and then.

There was too much at stake.

The unexpected sound of her bedroom door opening made her start. In the dark shadows behind her, the reflection of her husband’s tall, lean frame appeared. He paused on the threshold and by the way he leaned against the door frame it was obvious that he was drunk—not an unusual circumstance for this time of night. Elizabeth knew that he’d probably spent the best part of the evening at his club or some gaming hell. But what was unusual, what caused her heart to hammer against her breast, was the fact that he had come to her room at all.

Hugh hadn’t entered her bedchamber for more than a year.

She tried to read his expression, judge his mood. Desperately tried to fathom what could have prompted this unexpected nocturnal visitation. But Hugh’s blue eyes, indeed the sculpted planes of his entire face, were hidden in shadow.

“Elizabeth.” Pushing away from the door, he prowled toward her bed, then sank onto the pale blue silk counterpane with a heavy sigh. The lingering odor of port and stale cigar smoke assailed her, but she forced herself to remain still, as she watched—and waited, her stomach cramping with fear. It made no sense at all that he had come to her, instead of seeking out the more titillating company of his latest mistress or at the very least a prostitute—his usual custom at this late hour.

Unless…Does he know what I have planned?

Despite her rising panic, Elizabeth was suddenly struck by the realization that her husband was uncharacteristically maudlin. Turning to face him, she was acutely conscious of the fact that she only wore a thin, white cotton nightrail. Although it buttoned all the way to her throat and had long sleeves, she felt vulnerable. Exposed. It bothered her that her feet were bare.

But she couldn’t afford to show any weakness.

“Are you all right, my lord?” she asked carefully, forcing the words past her tight, dry throat. It seemed safer than asking—what do you want?—or—are you here to stop me leaving you? She hoped to God he hadn’t uncovered her secret. She must tread carefully. Her life depended upon it.

Amy Rose Bennett has always wanted to be a writer for as long as she can remember. An avid reader with a particular love for historical romance, it seemed only natural to write stories in her favorite genre. She has a passion for creating emotion-packed—and sometimes a little racy—stories set in the Georgian and Regency periods. Of course, her strong-willed heroines and rakish heroes always find their happily ever after.

As an unpublished author, Amy has been a finalist in contests in both Romance Writers of Australia and Romance Writers of America. In 2013 and 2014, she has achieved a place in the top three of Romance Writers of Australia’s Emerald Award, and her debut Regency romance novel—‘Lady Beauchamp’s Proposal’—was the winning entry in the historical section of two Romance Writers of America Chapter Contests in 2013—the Chicago North Fire and Ice Contest and the San Francisco Heart to Heart Contest.

Amy is happily married to her own Alpha male hero, has two beautiful daughters, a rather loopy Rhodesian Ridgeback and a Devonshire Rex cat with attitude. She is a Speech Pathologist, but is currently devoting her time to her one other true calling—writing romance.

Excerpt:

I surprised her when I showed up without warning at her door; I hadn't called ahead. I'd barely recognized I meant to go there myself. When Talaith appeared in the doorway, though, one eyebrow cocked, I didn't offer any kind of explanation. I threw myself at her.

I kissed her, hard and desperate, wrapping my arms around her luscious frame. I pushed her backward into the entryway of her apartment and kicked the door shut behind me. She squeaked. She actually squeaked.

"My Lady Knight!" she huffed when I let her up for air. "To what do I owe this pleasure?"
"This?" I teased, and kissed her again. "This isn't pleasure, Majesty. What I'm about to do to you, that will be a pleasure."

"Mm," she chuckled, and then she returned the embrace, twining slender arms around me and sliding fingers into my tawny hair.

Though the sun had set less than an hour ago, it appeared as though Tala had already been settling in for the night. She wore an oversized blue nightshirt hanging carelessly off one shoulder, a pair of slim and shimmery satin boy shorts, and dark fleece socks. She held a mug of cocoa in one hand, holding it expertly away from the violent crush of my body against hers to keep from spilling it. I reached out and stole it from her, taking a long drink.

"Reagan!" she exclaimed. "You don't drink hot cocoa!"

"Tonight I do," I countered, and pressed her into another kiss, the sweet taste of creamy chocolate mingling on our lips. Tala of course had loaded her cocoa with the decadences of whipped cream and sprinkled chocolate shavings; the saccharine overdose made me wince. It hit me like a slug of strong alcohol, going down about as smooth. A quick, sleek burn kindled up through my limbs, bubbling all the way up to my head, and I slid both hands underneath her nightshirt to strip it up and off of her. The lace-and-satin bra underneath matched her panties. I nuzzled my face between her breasts and uttered an appreciative little sound of delight.

"Ridiculous creature!" she laughed, but arched against me all the same.

I came up to take the hot chocolate again, this time tipping it to her lips. She happily took a drink, and when I brought the mug away, a white trail of whipped cream marked her upper lip. I ducked in for another kiss and slowly licked it away—even the small bit of sweetness made me shiver. Her tongue met mine and we kissed over and over, tasting, sucking, and trading soft murmurs of pleasure. Each new kiss sent a pulsing, dizzy little thrill through me, and then the chocolate really started to kick in.

This is why I don't take sugar in my tea. All it takes is the littlest taste...

...and I'm smashed.

Vicious arousal caught fire in me. I tangled one hand in the pretty red hair at the base of Tala's skull, gripping tightly, while the other slipped down, under the cup of her bra, greedily caressing the warm, soft shape of her breast. I touched the tiny stiff peak of her nipple and squeezed it, teasing. Tala rewarded me with a quick, gasping giggle. I practically tore the nightshirt over her head and then the sheer designer bra as I fell upon her breasts with relish.

"The couch—"she managed, and she grabbed me by the shoulders to drag me to it. The room was dim, lit by the glow of the fire in her hearth. She tumbled backward onto the plush black leather and I followed, landing on top of her.

Author Bio:
They say you should never meet your heroes, but Brantwijn Serrah says otherwise. At a Los Angeles book signing in 2012, Brantwijn met one of her all-time favorite authors of urban fantasy, Jim Butcher, who couldn't have been kinder or more encouraging to her as an aspiring novelist herself. As it turned out, the book he signed for her that night gave her the first spark of inspiration for Goblin Fires, the story of a goblin Knight hopelessly in love with her princess.
When she isn't visiting the worlds of immortals, demons, dragons and goblins, Brantwijn fills her time with artistic endeavors: sketching, painting, customizing My Little Ponies and sewing plushies for friends. She can't handle coffee unless there's enough cream and sugar to make it a milkshake, but try and sweeten her tea and she will never forgive you. She moonlights as a futon for four lazy cats, loves tabletop role-play games, and can spend hours watching Futurama, Claymore or Buffy the Vampire Slayer while she writes or draws.
In addition to her novels, Brantwijn has had several stories published in anthologies by Breathless Press, including the 2013 Crimson Anthology and 2014 Ravaged Anthology.  She's also had a short story published in the Cleiss Press Big Book of Orgasm and the anthology Coming Together Through The Storm. She hopes to have several more tales to tell as time goes on.  She has author pages on GoodReads and Amazon, and loves to see reader comments on her work. Her short stories occasionally pop up at Foreplay and Fangs, her blog.

50 Shades of Fur

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. The author will be awarding a signed copy of 50 Shades of Fur by Missy Barkalot, as told to Belinda Stevens to a randomly drawn winner via the rafflecopter at the end of this post during the tour.

A delightful, yet somewhat bawdy “tail” about Missy Barkalot, a petite rust-colored long-haired Dachshund and the apple of her eye, Humphrey B (aka “Hump”), and the other characters, both dogs and cats, who are frequent guests at Doggie Bath. Missy is pursued by Ralph the Bulldog, but she only has eyes for Hump, who was seduced by the glamorous toy poodle, CoCo. It turns out CoCo was a victim of her environment, as her owner had some kinky habits using a gray tie. Bondage with leashes, bite marks, jive-talking cats and cross-dressing Dobermans – not to mention a Doggie Blues band – keep the story rolling as Missy Barkalot uses her feminine wiles to woo Hump away from CoCo. DoggieBath has a little bit of everything – sexual intrigue, rock-n-roll and blues – canine style, and of course, a little weed. This fun romp through the world of Missy and Hump make a “furfect” read! If you love animals, you will love “50 Shades Of Fur.”

Enjoy an excerpt:

The next four months were perfect – or should I say furfect. We had matching His and Her sweaters, provided by our owners who thought our canine love was so cute! We couldn’t wait to get to Doggie Bath so we could spend as much time together as possible. We counted down the days on our paws until my owner or his mistress went on their annual trips so we could spend 24/7 together. Doggie bliss. We were definitely a canine couple to the chagrin of those furry tramps that still followed Hump around.

And then CoCo made her grand entrance. A toy poodle named after Coco Channel. That canine counldn’t design a decent dog collar if her over-priced self depended on it. Her reputation had preceded her – love the dogs and leave them type. It didn’t take her long to locate her next victim. She sashayed over to Humphrey, hiked her furry rump in his direction and gave that little tail she had a wag. He was immediately entranced. He stuck out his buff chest, pranced over to CoCo and gave her an introductory sniff. She sniffed back. It was weeks before Humphrey made his move but it was obvious that the interest had been there from first sniff. That cheating canine included CoCo in all our play groups. He even shared a doggie bone with her – something he had never done with any other dog but me.

Belinda J. Stevens was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, the gateway to the Mississippi Delta, in 1948. She grew up in the turbulent sixties, and has a true appreciation for the difficulties experienced Katherine in her first novel, "Just Out of Reach.” A radical departure from her first novel, her lastest effort is a fun parody, “50 Shades of Fur by Missy Barkalot, as told to Belinda Stevens.”

An attorney by profession, Belinda tells the story of young love and dark secrets in the world of the Doggie Bath. Canines, cats and even a skunk with a prestigious lineage converge for a bawdy “tale” that will keep you laughing.

Belinda is a graduate of Belhaven University and earned a Masters in Social Science and a Law Degree from Mississippi College. From 1987-1997 she served as Special Assistant to Mississippi Attorney General Mike Moore. She resides in Brandon, Mississippi with her dog Humprey B., and practices law in Yazoo City where she is a Public Defender.

Shelli Rosewarne- Follow the White Rabbit

1. How did you start writing erotic romance?
I've always loved romance as a genre, and writing-wise I consider it one of the most fascinating things to write about. I'm always a little surprised when some people seem to consider romance writing isn't as exciting/interesting/in-depth as some other genres because it's only writing about love. That's surely something we can all relate to, it underpines every aspect of life, it makes the world go round -- what could be more fascinating than that. As for the erotic side, I don't know if I would consider myself as writing full-on erotica, but if you're writing about love, passion and relationships then let's face it the physical side of things is going to pop up somewhere!
2. Plotter or pantster?
Complete pantster! I usually start with my characters and a rather vague idea that ends up changing about six times before the end. I have a great deal of respect for those who can plan out their whole novel in advance but I've never really been able to manage it. Half the fun of writing for me is going along on the journey with my characters, and I'm generally just as surprised as them to see where they end up.
3. What are three things you have on your writing desk?
I tend to write anywhere and everywhere so I don't really have an official desk. At the moment it tends to be on the sofa or in bed with the laptop on my knee. I do need my caffeine for writing (erm, and for functioning at all really!) and tend to have the tv on for background noise, I don't like it to be too quite. I also have millions of notebooks scattered around the house with idea and character scribbles and pages of to-do lists.
4. Favorite food?
Anything with sugar will usually do me.
5. Tell us a little about your new release. What character in the book really spoke to you?
My new release is a short flirt based in the world of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. I loved the books as a child so it was a dream come true for me to be able to set my own story in that world and to be put my own spin on it. Mary Ann is a character who is mentioned in Alice's Adventures, yet we never actually met her in person. I found myself wondering about her; the White Rabbit mistakes Alice for her so they must be similar -- is she another human, what is she doing in Wonderland, how did she get there, why is she working for the Rabbit. Mary Ann did speak to me a lot as she's someone I could very much relate to, she's quiet, a bit shy, not sure who she is or where she's from and desperately looking for answers in a rather strange world.
The Cheshire Cat on the other hand simply strolled into the story and owned it! Being a typical cat he shares what he feels like and does what he want, but you try saying no to him!
6. I write because .... I couldn't not do. The voices in my head would drive me mad if I didn't let them out!
7. What is your favorite type of character to write about?
I love all my characters, it's like your children, you can't pick a favourite lol! I will admit to a weakness for the 'bad boy', dark and tortured hero type though. They're such fun to write, especially when you find the exact woman who can bring them to their knees!
8. What is the sexiest scene you ever wrote?
Erm, I actually have no idea. I think sexiest is actually quite subjective, I often find myself getting more into scenes that might not be quite as 'steamy' but that I find sexy because it reflects the characters more or it shows the relationship between them.
9. What advice would you give new authors in the erotica/romance field?
Write what you love. If you aren't in love with your characters and just dying to know how their story works out, then you can't really expect other people to care either. Also, it's easier said than done but try to develop a tough skin. There will always be people who want to criticise what you do, or want to talk you out of following your dreams. Feedback is one thing, and by all means take anything positive you can out of it, but at the end of the day other people's opinions are just that -- opinions.
10. What is next on your writerly horizon?

I currently have a novella just going into edits with my publisher. It's a modern day shifter story, entitled Scarlett Legacy and very loosely inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. I'm very excited about it, and it's going to be the first in a series so fingers crossed it will go down well!

Blurb:

Mary Ann doesn't remember her life before she wandered into the Woods of Forgetfulness. She doesn't remember who she was, where she came from, or even her real name—and she's given up on anyone coming to look for her. Now, she works for the White Rabbit, and if she's not deliriously happy at least her life is content.
Until, that is, she comes across a Cheshire Cat, a rare shape-shifter, who may be about to turn her life upside down.
In Wonderland, things are rarely what they seem.

Excerpt:

He put a finger underneath her chin, his touch light but firm as he forced her head up to meet his gaze. Mary Ann shifted uncomfortably.
"I think so. I don't really know," she whispered, and when his brow rose in query, she added in a rush. "I lost my memory in the Woods of Forgetfulness, I don't know who I am, or where I come from, or even what my real name is. Everything before I went in there is just a blank."
His face softened suddenly. "Surely, someone is looking for you then?"
Mary Ann was embarrassed to feel tears burn her eyes, and she squeezed them shut. "If anyone was looking for me then they would have found me by now. Obviously no one cares."
The silence stretched out, and she forced herself to open her eyes, needing to see his face, though half-expecting there to be disgust etched on it. She was pathetic; apparently she couldn't even do a one-night stand without fucking it up before it even started. He was staring at her, but the look on his face was odd and unreadable.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I just feel so alone sometimes, I think I'm going mad."
A small smile curved his full lips. "We're all mad here, little mouse."
She found herself reluctantly smiling back. Perhaps he was right. His smile suddenly broadened into that wide grin.
"I think perhaps you need to see something strange and beautiful."
About the author:
Shelli Rosewarne had always had a dream in the back of her head about wanting to be a writer. However, like with so many things, life and paying the bills got in the way and she worked in various jobs from call centers to shops to offices. She eventually realized that life is too short not to try and follow your dreams, and has since had two stand alone novellas published with Breathless Press, along with several submissions in anthologies, another novel contracted for later in the year and various works in progress in the pipeline. Yup, she's having to pinch herself as well! She's currently lucky enough to live in Edinburgh, where she can be constantly inspired by Scottish folklore and see castles every day. When not writing she loves reading, music and photography.

Ivy Bateman: I’ll Call You Alice

1. How did you start writing erotic romance?
About four years ago a friend of mine mentioned to me that her sister was a lawyer for a romance publisher and that they pay good money for books. I was looking to get into writing so I took a look at their website. They were looking for submissions for a number of ebook romance lines including full on erotica. They rejected my submission, an erotic tale called “Between the Lines”, but a year later Breathless Press said yes to it and the rest, as they say, is history.
2. Plotter or pantster?
Vaguely plotter, but mostly pantster. When I sit down to write I have a mild idea of what I want to write, but most of the story comes to me as I’m writing.
3. What are three things you have on your writing desk?
A bee doll (you know for Ivy B), a cup of coffee, and a notepad.
4. Favorite food?
I love kettle chips and I like them from the freezer. No PMS cycle can be complete without a bag of those bad boys in the house.
5. Tell us a little about your new release. What character in the book really spoke to you?
“I’ll Call You Alice” is a tale inspired by “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. It’s the short story of a girl named Val who is very late for an important blind date. She thinks she’s going to have coffee with one mystery man, but instead ends up at a tea party in the woods with three hot guys. The character that spoke to me the most was probably the Mad Hatter. He said things like, “I think I should look a little like Benedict Cumberbatch, don’t you agree?”
6. I write because ____...
I love storytelling and entertaining people.
7. What is your favorite type of character to write about?
I really enjoy writing fish out of water characters.  It’s fun because you have a character that grows and has many places to go in the story.
8. What is the sexiest scene you ever wrote?
Oh boy…well in “Between the Lines”, when my main characters finally get to the bedroom is the most graphic scene I’ve ever written, but personally I think the scene in the elevator when they first meet is one of the sexiest and scenes I’ve ever written.  It’s full of lingering looks and wonderful tension.
9. What advice would you give new authors in the erotica/romance field?
Write what you’re really passionate about. The reader will know if you’re just phoning it in or if your heart really isn’t into it. They’re very smart that way!
10. What is next on your writerly horizon?
I’m hoping to submit a story to Breathless Press for the Christmas season. The theme for holiday tales is “Angels”. I’ve a few ideas brewing so we’ll see where those lead!

Thanks very much for having me on today!
Happy Reading,
Ivy Bateman

Blurb:

After not meeting up with her blind date at a local bistro, Val finds herself dressed up as Alice and attending the Mad Hatter's Tea Party in the woods with three sexy guys. Seeking an adventure, Val dives into the world of fantasy and does what anyone in her situation would do: a foursome!

Excerpt:

"You said in your dating profile you were seeking adventure," said the over-excited mouse. Val suddenly realized he was the waiter who had first served her at the restaurant. "You stated," he continued, "that your life was dull and that you were seeking someone who could give you something new. So...ta-dah! We are the someones." He paused for effect. "We want to give you new somethings!"
Val rose from the table and backed away. The drugged tea was gone from her system, but she stood up too fast and had to steady herself on a chair. "My profile? You are all my blind date?"
"That’s right," they said in unison.
She didn't know whether she was flattered, or horrified. "You—I should leave. You drugged me, sort of kidnapped me, and are calling me Alice because I said I wanted adventure. This is just a little too bizarre for me. I think I'll go back to my dull life." She started to walk out of the woods, but stopped. Val had no idea where she was. She could chance it and find the main road. If luck was on her side she could find her way back to town. "And then what?" she muttered. "Go home and pine once again for a life less ordinary?"
Instead, she turned back to the tea party. The three of them were watching her, waiting patiently for her to make up her mind. Val bit her lip. What should she do? The whole scene laid out in front of her was surreal and strange; something out of a story. Surprisingly though, it wasn't scary. Yes, she was stuck in the woods with three odd, but undeniably attractive men who had gone to a lot of trouble to give her a blind date that would really stick in her memory. She was touched by their showmanship, but was it too weird?
She studied each of them in turn. The Mad Hatter was grinning, well madly. His eyes were full of mischief and were quite sexy. The White Rabbit had beautifully muscled legs. The bike shorts were showing them off, and what was tucked inside of them, nicely. The Mouse was staring openly at her breasts. The dress and apron did more to showcase her body than hide it and he was definitely enjoying the view.
Val had to admit she was extremely flattered by their attention. They seemed very sincere and eager for her company. Plus they were charming and looked completely harmless. She wasn't getting creepy vibes off any of them. It probably wouldn't hurt to stay and experience a unique date. Yes, this was more out there than she would ever have thought she would be a part of, but it was new and it was an adventure which was what she'd been seeking when she signed herself up on that dating site. Why not see where this led?
"Are you going to stay at our tea party?" asked the Mouse.
Val took a deep breath. As she let it out she nodded and said, "Yes, but I must be mad."
The Mad Hatter giggled loudly. "We're all mad here, Alice! Oh, I can't believe I actually got to say that! How wonderful!" He leaned across the table and slapped five with the White Rabbit.
"So," she said as she laughed along with them and sat back down at the table. "What did you have in mind?"
All three men cheered, but it was the Mad Hatter who told Val the plan. "We'd like to play a game."
"What kind of game? I'm not all that good at games."
The Mouse tittered. "Actually, that's not a problem for us. We were rather hoping you wouldn't be."
 About the author:
When she was just nine, this girl began her journey for a life on the stage. Attempts were made, classes were taken, lessons were well learned but, at the end of the day, a decision to live life off the stage was made. But all was not lost. While at college she met the love of her life and his support and strength has helped her to see that she has talent waiting around many corners.
When the stage beckons, she answers its call, and her new passion for writing has enhanced many of her theatre dreams and as well as the occasional book, she now occasionally writes a play.
The love of her life generously reads everything she writes and although he may not always be her muse, he is always her biggest fan.
I'll Call You Alice is Ivy's fifth release with Breathless Press. She is excited that it will not only be released on its own but also as a part of a print anthology called Wonderland Tales, which will feature many Breathless Press author's tales inspired by the Alice stories. Between the Lines, Ivy's first Breathless Press release was released in January, 2012. This was followed by The Fifth Story in September, 2012, Baby, You're Cold Inside in December, 2012 and Christmas Eve Surprise in December, 2013.
