Review:
Erun is a genetically altered Ujal who knows he will never have a mate. Nessa is a mother trying to keep up with her toddler when their worlds collide. Each learns something about the other and discovers a love hidden underneath gruff exteriors and preconceptions. Especially with Nessa's daughter Tabby added into the equation.
What I liked about this book:
The drive of each of the characters to do the best for Tabitha. She was a real part of the story and it was easy to fall in love with all of them.
The merman alien thing really worked once I got past the culture differences and was able to grasp what the Ujal race was like. And the humor! The play on words using the culture differences was great and made me snicker more than once into my coffee.
What I didn't:
Getting past Erun's initial introduction took me a minute and I didn't much see how he and Nessa were ever going to connect. All he did was accuse her of being an unfit mother and that was a tough one.
The immediacy of emergency room care and life threatening issues resolving themselves.
Overall:
This book was very entertaining and I kept coming back to it whenever I had a free moment. Despite the minor two issues I had, this was an addictive read with characters that you grow to love and want to know more about. A warrior brought to his knees for the love of a child. What's not to love about that?
