Image Three (Blog Post) My favorite mythical creature to write about are the fae, faries, fey, or whatever you want to call them. They're a fascinating subject because they have such versatility in how they can be portrayed, from their physical description to their personalities, their culture, even their world. We have a rich lore and mythology to draw from, and yet you can even make the fae into a completely different creature that has nothing to do with myth. They are extremely versatile and ripe with possibilities, like the elven and dwarven races, yet better. The fae are the very source of magic and all that is wondrous and beautiful in the world, so you could do anything from humanoid fae, to shifters, to anthropomorphic, or full fae animals, or even fae plants and trees (think I AM GROOT). I am always excited at the potential to create beautiful, yet terrible things with the fae, an inspiration I've had eve since I saw Cameron's "Avatar" and the world they created on Pandora. I am also a lover of plants, nature, and the outdoors, so I guess it was inevitable that I'd gravitate toward the creature that has an affinity for such things. And, yes, my favorite movie as a kid was definitely Fern Gully (don't judge). But in my book series, the Lily Singer Adventures, I have a ton of fun exploring the fae and fae culture from a unique perspective, not as cute little bobs flitting around, or even as a vindictive race of humanoids just waiting for mankind to let their guard down to swoop in and conquer. My fae are stewards of the earth, a disinterested party, shall we say, in the larger struggle playing out between man and demon. It's a fun take on fae purpose and culture and I'm only 4 books into a 12 book series, so there's much more fun to come. What's interesting though, is that the book I've written for the "Creatures" box set, is a spin-off origin story of one of the characters from before he ever met the fae. But it's alright, I have enough fun with a ghost and some tricksy demons that there's creatures enough to keep you occupied. Enjoy! Lydia Sherrer is the Author of Accidental Witch (Dark Roads Trilogy, Book 1). You can find out more about Lydia here! Image Four (Blurb) "I never meant to become a witch. But when those you love die, logic and reason usually die with them." Sebastian Blackwell is your typical high-school popular kid. At least, he used to be. But after his parents are killed in a freak accident, he goes from cool kid to orphan outcast before the dirt even settles over their grave. Now a shell of his former self, Sebastian realizes with soul-wrenching clarity what really matters in life, and is determined to get it back, no matter the cost. But to do it, he’ll to delve into his family’s darkest secrets, secrets his parents tried to protect him from all his life. With a ghost his only friend, a goth girl his only ally, and a demon prince his only chance, Sebastian sets out on a desperate path of redemption that, knowing his luck, is just as likely to damn him as save him. But as long as he gets his parents back, he doesn’t care. For fans of paranormal series like Supernatural and the Dresden Files, this tale of loss and the struggle for redemption will keep you on the edge of your seat. So be careful. You wouldn't want to fall off. Facebook Post 4

Release Blitz: Aim by LP Dover @LPDover @loveaffairwfict

Title: Aim
Series: A Circle of Justice Novel
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Romantic Suspense

HE NEVER MISSES HIS MARK.

*STANDALONE NOVEL*
When someone asks what I do for a living, I answer it plain and simple . . . I’m a hunter. I hunt the dregs of society and I’m very damn good at it.
I’m Ian Chandler, FBI agent and a member of the Circle of Justice, an organization of justice seeking vigilantes. My mission is to solve a string of ‘accidental’ hiking deaths occurring around my Wyoming town. When Grace Myers –a woman who’s been missing for days –shows up on my land, it turns out she’s the key to it all. Someone is hunting her, and I make it my duty to keep her safe.
However, the deeper I get into the case, the more dangerous it becomes; especially, now that I’ve fallen for the woman I have to protect. If hunting is the game, I won’t fail. I always hit my mark.

My phone rang and I thought it’d be Bryce, but it wasn’t. “What can I do for you, Chief?”
Colton Myers was the chief of police back in Wyoming. His call wasn’t unusual, because they often called me and my brothers when there were cases the local PD couldn’t solve. “I need your help,” he replied, his voice shaking.
The cab driver pulled up to the airport entrance and I passed him a wad of bills before getting out. “What’s going on? I’m about to get on a flight to head home.”
“Good. I’ll drop these files off with Reed, so you can see them when you get back.”
The din of the bustling city made it hard to hear him, but I could tell he was distraught. “Files for what?”
He sighed heavily. “You know how there’ve been missing hikers in Montana?”
“Yeah, I saw something about it before I left for New York.” It wasn’t uncommon for tourists to sway from the hiking trails or test their limits by doing stupid shit. Most of those people found themselves dead. I liked to climb the cliffs, but I was good at it.
“We’re missing people here too,” Colton confessed.
“It happens every year. Why does this case shock you?” I’d been gone for three weeks, so I hadn’t even paid attention to what was going on in Wyoming.
He huffed angrily. “About three weeks ago, eight men supposedly went missing in our mountains. Just this morning, I couldn’t get a hold of Grace. Her boss also called me and said she never showed up at their meeting last night. Her car is still at the hotel. It’s like she disappeared.”
“You’ve got to be shitting me,” I growled low.
Grace was his daughter and a good friend of mine. Hell, I’d wanted to be more than that for quite some time. I only held back from pursuing her out of respect for her father. She was one of the most beautiful women I’d ever known.
“Please, Ian. I have to find her.”
Hurrying through the doors, impatience flooded through my veins. “We’ll find her, if it’s the last thing I do . . . I swear.”

Lich Queen by Naomi Clark @naomi_jay @evernightpub

Thanks for having me today! I’m so excited to be sharing my new release, LICH QUEEN, book three in the Blood Canticles series. Anyone who had to deal with me while I was writing this book (friends, family, co-workers) will know I was completely obsessed with it. I love writing Dawn, and her story has so many elements I just love writing in general – ghosts, private eyes, and creepy shenanigans! And anyone who had to deal with me while I was waiting to hear if the book had been accepted, knows I was a total bundle of nerves the whole time (my fiancĂ© is a patient man). For some reason I was convinced I’d get a “no” on this one. Don’t ask me why. It just seemed like maybe Dawn’s story, which gets bleak, might not be a good fit.

But it’s not just bleak! Like the other Blood Canticles books, there’s friendship, mystery, action, and a lot of coffee. If you like your urban fantasy filled with those things (and a side order of zombies, vampires, and demons), you’re going to love LICH QUEEN just as much as I do ;)

You can find the complete Blood Canticles series, in reading order, at my blog here.

Blurb
Magic has ruined Detective Dawn Hardy's life.

Her partner is dead, her career is on the rocks, and Dawn fears she herself may no longer be human.

While she struggles with the aftermath of a vampire attack, dead bodies are going missing around Fort Rosser. A demonic plot is brewing, and Dawn and her friends may be the only ones who can stop it. If they can stop fighting each other. And if Dawn can conquer the growing darkness inside herself.

Vampires and demons were just the beginning.

Excerpt

They had to press themselves to the wall to get around the zombie. Dawn kept her gun trained on it the whole time, just in case, but it didn't so much as twitch. It felt like stopping it had been too easy. Her nerves were singing by the time they reached the landing. Another dark hallway stretched out before them, dented metal doors on either side. Dawn noticed with a chill that a lot of the doors looked like the damage had come from the inside.
"There's an open unit up ahead," she told Rhys, watching Eddie drift along, leaving a trail of caramel-tobacco in his wake. "They let some of the less dangerous patients mix freely during the day."
They'd been in there, on that long-ago murder investigation. It was a big enough room, still lined with basic tables and chairs where patients could sit and read, or play card games, or just ... sit. It was a favorite spot for urban explorers to visit, because the masonry was still pretty sound, but the room itself was a wreck, offering the right balance of damage and security for would-be YouTube stars.
"Bet you ten dollars that's where she is, then," Rhys said. "I can feel it. You?"
Was she supposed to? Seeing ghosts was bad enough, Eddie excluded. She didn't want to start 'feeling' zombies. She shook her head, focusing on Eddie again.
Sure enough, he stopped by the door to the open unit. Those demonic symbols were gouged into the door, deeply scarring the metal. Her pulse raced as adrenaline flooded her. She could hear something on the other side of the door – a muffled mix of footsteps and low, strained voices. She adjusted her grip on her gun, palms sweaty. She carried a standard-issue Glock, six rounds. It had always felt like enough before tonight. Now she was down to three.
"Any last minute advice on dealing with the undead?" she whispered to Rhys.
"Don't," he said.
She wished he didn't think he was so funny. Eddie beckoned her to the door, giving her a look she knew well. Caution, mixed with determination. She didn't need to hear him speak to know what he was thinking. Go time, Dawn.
She nodded at him.
Isaiah's mocking laughter filled her head.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair...
"So cliché," she said, earning a strange look from Rhys. She answered him with a smile that felt unpleasant. "Go time," she said, and eased the door open.

About the Author
Naomi likes writing, perfume, fancy tea, and unfathomable monsters from the dark spaces between the stars, not necessarily in that order. She has been writing stories ever since she learned how to write, but is still trying to master the art of biography writing. When she's not dealing with werewolves, demons, or sea monsters, she's hanging out with her cat and probably watching a documentary about Bigfoot. If the cat isn't available, she's with her fiancé watching cookery shows and silently plotting her next book.

Blurb:
Never flirt with temptation. Never lust after what I can’t have. And never, under any circumstances, screw a married man again. By the time this story is told, I’ll have failed at all three… With my heart and reputation in ruins, I can’t afford to make another mistake. Boarding a flight to Seattle is supposed to give me a clean slate, but from the moment Cash Montgomery slides into the seat next to mine, I’m captivated by his steel eyes that see too much. I ache for this stranger in a way I’ve never ached for anyone. But I didn’t know he was married, and I sure as hell didn’t see the curveball fate had in store. My clean slate in Seattle isn’t so clean after all because my new boss is the man forbidden to me. And the only man I want. The only man I’ll do anything for, even if it means breaking the promise I made to myself when I fled my old life in shame. I wasn’t supposed to fall for a married man, but I did. NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: Though the subject matter deals with cheating, there are no innocent parties here. Book 1 in the Trashy Affair series.

Review:

From the first page of this book I was hooked. Normally books on cheating aren't on my reading list but this one rocked my world. Life is complicated and this author really knows how to craft a story to keep you on the edge of your seat and clutching the ice water. I loved it.

5 stars all the way!

Excerpt:
I go perfectly still as his arm snakes around me from behind. A warm palm flattens against my stomach, and the tips of his fingers inch beneath the waistband of my jeans. Everything south of that tempting hand flares to life, setting off a deep ache I know only he can fix. Pulling me against his body, he leans down and whispers into my ear. “Watching him touch you is killing me.” “Knowing you’re married is killing me.” He curses under his breath. A hint of his woodsy cologne, along with the sweet aroma of bourbon fills my nostrils. “Have you been drinking?” “Maybe a little.” He whirls me around until we’re face-to-face, and my heart flutters in my throat as he tightens his arms around me. “Come upstairs with me.” His proximity riots through me, the heat of his body sizzling all the way to my fucking toes. We fall into a lazy sway, dancing but not quite, and for a crazy second, I consider following him to the VIP area in the loft. As far as I can tell it’s empty unless a stray couple is hiding in the shadows in the very back. I doubt it though. The club is vibrating with restless energy as everyone crowds the first floor in anticipation of the concert. “Look at me, Jules.” His words jolt me to awareness, and I realize I’m staring at his chest. I curl my hands into fists at my sides, too tempted to run my palms down that broad expanse hiding underneath cotton. I bet it’s the softest material on the planet, but I won’t find out because I’m not going there. Nope. Not. Gonna. Do. It. Because I have zero control right now, and we’re standing in the middle of a busy club with God-knows-who watching. And if I do touch him…I might not stop. “Jules,” he murmurs. “Bring those gorgeous eyes up here.” I lift my chin and dive headfirst into the fire of his gaze. His eyes are a smoldering, liquid steel. “Cash…please…” “Please what?” “Don’t make me want to give in. You’re married.” My voice cracks on that ugly word. “My marriage is a sham.” “Your marriage is your business.” I grip his arms, intending to push him away. But somewhere along the way, my brain gets its wires crossed, and I end up curling my fingers around his biceps. God, he’s built—solid man through and through. “I disagree,” he says, dipping his head until our mouths linger a hairsbreadth from each other. “Everything about me is very much your business.” “W-why?” “Because I can’t feel this way about you without it being your business.”

In the Realm there are whispers. Whispers that the city used to be a different place. That before the Queen ruled there was a sky beyond the clouds and a world beyond their streets. Vaun Dray Fen never knew that world. Born a prince without a purpose in a Realm ruled by lavish indulgence, unrelenting greed, and vicious hierarchy, he never knew a time before the Queen’s dust drugged the city. From the tea to the pastries, everything is poisoned to distract and dull the senses. And yet, after more than a century, his own magic is beginning to wake. The beautiful veneer of the Realm is cracking. Those who would defy the Queen turn their eyes to Vaun, and the dust saturating the Realm. From the carnivorous pixies in the shadows to the wolves in the streets, Vaun thought he knew all the dangers of his city. But when whispers of treason bring down the fury of the Queen, he'll have to race to save the lives and souls of those he loves. “A deliciously decadent debut that will make you reconsider the world within which we live – because how different are we than Low’s drugged-up citizens of the upper crust?” -- Sara Dobie Bauer, author of the Bite Somebody series Grab your copy now World Weaver Press Amazon Barnes & Noble iTunes Kobo Goodreads

How did you start writing erotic romance? I’m going to come clean here, I don’t write erotica romance. I write fantasy—dark adult fantasy. But I do think all things should have romance in them and what’s a story without sexy stuff?

Plotter or pantser? I was originally a pantser but accidentally became a plotter. While working on Vanity in Dust I had so many ideas for the series that I started writing them down in files under different books. When it came time to write the second book, Detox in Letters, I had a complete outline waiting. It worked so well for me that I’ve officially become a plotter.

What are three things you have on your writing desk? Glass of water, notebook, and glittery washi tape.

Favorite food? Do cookies count? I really love sweets. If not, then I’ll go with dumplings.

Tell us a little about your new release. What character in the book really spoke to you? Vanity in Dust is a dark fantasy about a city ruled by a queen who harvests and sells magic back to her people. Vaun Dray Fen is the prince, immersed in this world of petty scandals and parties, finally waking from the haze of his own life to realize that something is deeply wrong with his city. I really enjoy writing Vaun. He’s funny and willing to play a fool if it gets him the information he wants or just amuses someone else. But I think the character that resonates with me most is his sister, Fay. She’s deeply bitter and wields her power with intent. I’m kind of in love with her.

I write because ____... I love doing it. I love writing and though there are a hundred reasons more why I do it, that’s the most important one.

What is your favorite type of character to write about? Oh, that’s hard. I like the complicated characters, the heroes forged from tragedy and driven by vengeance. And the bitter, ruthless ones that play both enemy and friend. But I think my favorite to write about are the funny observers caught between plot schemes and all those strong character types.

What advice would you give new authors? Keep writing. However it goes, great or turbulent, just keep writing.

What is next on your writerly horizon? Book two of Crowns and Ash, Detox in Letters, is on the desk of my amazing editor and I’m about to start a read through on book three. There are five in the series so I imagine they should keep me busy for a little while.

Grayc snatched a book from a table as she passed and swung it against the back of Vaun’s skull. The impact echoed in the room a moment before the scrape of chairs and chorus of alarmed voices drowned it out. She waited as Vaun’s head turned toward her, clutching the novel like a weapon or a shield, bracing herself as the full weight of his rage settled on her. Black consumed his eyes like ink spilling from a bottle, blooming in his whites before saturating them completely. “Grayc,” he growled. “Madness is no excuse for bad manners or wasted tea.” His lip curled. “Mad? Me? Only the Low—” “Drink bad dust? In Belholn Main district teahouses, perhaps?” She arched an eyebrow. “No, a fine prince of the Realm would never be so foolish. A prince would never overconsume without giving his body a chance to rest between highs. Surely a prince would know better.” The veins in his neck jumped when his jaw clenched. “You think you can speak to me like this? You think you can get away with striking me, in front of all of these people? I own you!” “If you think that is true, then perhaps I did not hit you hard enough.” Her voice rose with a spike of anger. The prince’s hand drew back but before it could sail she spoke again. “Swords or guns, your highness?” Vaun blinked. “What?” “For our duel,” GraycIllan said. “Would you rather I shoot you, or stab you?” His lips curled back into a snarl that twisted at the corners of his mouth. “You cannot challenge me, Grayc. I am a prince of the Realm. You are just a rat.” She felt the entire room watching her but his blackened eyes weighed on her nerves the most, urging her to abandon her pretense of confidence and beg for mercy. It was not an option. His madness would only worsen the longer they allowed him to continue sucking down cups of tea. With a lazy shrug she tossed the book onto the table, ignoring the way the porcelain suffered and more tea spilled. “Vaun—” She used his given name and heard the intake of shock-stricken breaths. “—if you are frightened, you only need say so.”
