A Kiss in the Shadows Book Blast and Giveaway

A Kiss in the Shadows
by Eve Kincaid and Lily Danes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Erin Grady is used to taking care of people. That’s why she’s thrilled to finally realize her dream of opening a clinic…and why she’s willing to overlook where the money came from—until a determined prosecutor comes sniffing around.

Will Patton is desperate to leave the small fogbound town of Lost Coast Harbor and build a real career for himself. But to do that, he’ll need to expose the dirty police chief—and betray the woman who makes him wonder if he’s leaving town too soon.

But the corruption in Lost Coast Harbor runs deep and wide—and exposing the truth will require Erin and Will to expose their hearts…no matter the risk.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Three:
Erin studied Will in the pale illumination from the street lamp. The overhead light brought out his cheekbones and cast his eyes into shadows. The fine mist settled on his thick dark hair.
God, he was really good looking. Objectively, she’d recognized this fact from the moment he’d fallen in front of her, and again when he was lounging in the hospital, trying to charm the nurses. But now, standing in the dark and cold night, alone… she couldn’t take her eyes off him.
His lips turned up slightly and her stomach fluttered. She’d been staring too long, too intently. The heat burned up her neck to her cheeks.
 “How about the dinner I promised?” he asked.
Erin shook her head. “You don’t have to do that.”
As soon as the words slipped out, she wanted to take them back. His gaze intensified and the flutters in her stomach grew to tremors. She didn’t even like cops, and though he wasn’t in uniform, that’s basically what he was. He was the end result of law enforcement.
“I want to.”
She shivered and tried to tell herself it was the chill from the fog, but knew it wasn’t. It had been way too long since a man had looked at her like that.
Oh, what the hell.
“I have to get Colin home,” she said.
“Tomorrow then,” he said. He still held her hand, his thumb casually stroking the inside of her wrist. The touch was intimate, familiar. Long-dormant parts of her body woke in a wave of longing and heat.
“I can’t tomorrow. I, uh, have to—I have plans,” she said, with genuine regret.
Will raised an eyebrow and Erin realized she was brushing off the only man who’d taken her breath away with a touch in, well, forever.
“It seems that an awful lot of your vocabulary revolves around what you have to do,” he said, his head tilted slightly as he watched her. “How about this? I’m going down to the Crab Shack for dinner in about an hour, because it’s the only place open on a Monday night in this town. I’ll get a table for two. If you want to join me, I’d love the company.”
What she wanted was a nearly foreign concept, something Will seemed to have picked up on. She could defend herself, argue that she did what she wanted. That would be a lie, though. And she did want to meet him later.
“I’ll be there,” she said.
It was a good opportunity to take Jerry's advice and talk to a prosecutor about the donation to the clinic, her rational mind said. It was just dinner.
But with a man whose slightest touch sent her reeling, her body reminded her. So don’t be late.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Like so many good ideas, Lost Coast Harbor was inspired by a few rounds of margaritas. One sunny afternoon, Lily Danes and Eve Kincaid went to a Mexican restaurant for snacks and tequila and left with the idea for a new series. Inspired by their love of noir movies and 1940s crime novels, they imagined a gritty small town full of crime and corruption, where intrigue and mystery can lead to love and passion.
Eve Kincaid is a lapsed lawyer who decided that fictional crime was more fun than the real deal. When she’s not writing about mysterious women and the dangerous and sexy men who love them, she’s probably shopping for books, lipstick, or imported cheeses to complement a nice California pinot noir.
Enchanted Warrior by Sharon Ashwood
ENCHANTED WARRIOR (CAMELOT REBORN, BOOK 1) BY SHARON ASHWOOD
Writing seduction
It goes without saying that romance writers learn the art of writing love scenes. Mastering that skill is every bit as delicious and imaginative as it sounds, but it is also a technical craft that requires patience and a critical eye for detail. To do the job well means making the scene flow so smoothly that the reader is unaware of the work behind a transparent reading experience.
But the love/sex scene is just one aspect of writing about seduction. As compelling as those steamy moments are, they can’t come out of nowhere. A story needs the buildup of romantic tension, all the flirtatious games and teasing that go on before the big payoff. Part of an author’s job is to find fresh and interesting ways for characters to do that dance. As the old saying goes, good writers show far more than they tell. The character has to BE attractive as well as LOOK that way for us to care about their happiness.
What does “attractive” mean? That has as many answers as there are lovers. Each set of partners enters into their romance with a unique combination of skills and attributes. They demonstrate who they are in ways that go beyond lovemaking but also greatly inform the sexual dance.  Is it a mercurial personality—that push and pull that leaves a love interest guessing—that catches our interest? Brute physical power? A gentle heart? Untold generosity? A gift for storytelling? This is where writing about seduction becomes highly individual and endlessly varied. This is where wit and emotion play their part, because hearts are healed—or easily broken—during this dangerous passage where trust is built and masks shed. We need to see deep into a character before we surrender.
It’s not just the lovers that enter the sex scene with explosive expectations. The reader has also committed to the unique personalities and challenges of the characters. She has let the writer and the story into her heart and mind, building trust right along with the writers. After that, if the author knows her business, how can the final climax fail to be good?
Review:
A blend of Arthurian legend and witchery, this modern day improvisation lends itself well to the world of the Knights of the Round table. Tamsin is the perfect heroine and Gawain a swoonworthy hero. I enjoyed the updated twist to this legend and the idea that knights could be frozen in time until they were needed to be of service. Combustible scenes between the two MC's rocked it. This was the first book I've read by Sharon Ashwood, but it won't be my last.
Giveaway:  I’ll give away one signed paperback copy of ENCHANTED WARRIOR to a commenter.
Short Excerpt:
Huge hands grabbed her from behind, pulling her backward until she collided with a rock-hard chest. Tamsin inhaled, about to scream, but a palm clamped over her mouth. A moment later, the man’s free arm grasped her middle. Tamsin lunged forward, but his grip was an iron bar. Her next move was to kick back, aiming for the man’s knee. She missed, catching only his shin with the soft sole of her boot. He grunted and pulled her against him so tightly she could barely breathe.
“Don’t,” he said, the word clipped and cold.
Tamsin froze, going utterly still. Whoever this was, his psychic shields were so powerful he’d been completely hidden from her scan. After fretting about evil creatures stalking witches, she was too scared to reach for her magic. Every instinct warned her this stranger would not tolerate further defiance. This was a professional. A predator. A true threat. She knew it on a level so primitive it was coded into her DNA.
Her obedience seemed to work, because the hand clamped over her mouth slowly moved away. He tasted of salt, sweat and man. He hadn’t used weapons to overpower her, just brute strength. That show of confidence made him seem all the more deadly.
“You will not cry out.” His words had traces of a brogue—Scottish, perhaps. His deep, masculine voice vibrated through the line where their bodies touched and sank into her bones.
“Please,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “What do you want?”
“Turn around.”
The arm locked about her loosened, allowing her to move but not to escape. Tamsin shrank away as far as she could, the heat of his body a sharp contrast to the cool November air.
“Turn,” he repeated. “I want to see your face when I question you.”
Tamsin obeyed, sliding within the circle of his arm. It put their faces barely twelve inches apart, and that was only because he was so tall. Her first instinct was to avoid eye contact, to rebel at least in that small way, but curiosity won. She snatched a glance from under her lashes.
She froze all over again as he nailed her in place with a brilliant blue gaze. He was younger than she’d expected—maybe in his late twenties—and handsome enough that she forgot to breathe. His face had strong bones, the features bold and almost sensual. Heat rose to her cheeks as her insides curled into a protective ball. He was far too magnetic, far too there for comfort.
He studied her face a moment longer, his gaze filled with bold assessment. It finally broke when the corners of his mouth quirked. “You are the historian who is supposed to explain this place to visitors, Tamsin Greene?”
Star Power by Morticia Knight #ARe #Infamous
Star Power
Morticia Knight
Genre: Gay, Suspense, BDSM
Date of Publication: February 1, 2016
ISBN: 978-1-943576-65-4
Book Description:
They must escape danger before they can have their Hollywood ending.
After a few cinematic bombs lower his box-office appeal, actor Adrien Fury wants Harrison Langford to bring his career back to superstar status. He would also love to learn more about his mysterious and handsome agent, if he could ever get him alone.
Harry has loved Adrien for years but never revealed his feelings. He keeps things professional between them and will do whatever it takes to make sure Adrien gets what he wants. When increasingly disturbing letters show up at his agency, threatening horrible things against the man he loves, Harry vows to protect Adrien at all costs.
Adrien and Harry are on the verge of revealing their true feelings to each other when danger strikes. Maybe they can share a lasting love…if Adrien's stalker doesn’t get to him first.
Excerpt:
The whole nightmare had begun a couple of months before, the first letters almost a month apart, then gradually becoming more violent and frequent. The one on Karen’s desk would be the third this week, the previous one less than twenty-four hours earlier.
“You can no longer be left alone for one thing.”
Adrien raised his head to see Harry staring at him even more intensely than normal. He hadn’t thought such a thing was possible.
“But I don’t trust anyone except my mom and sister. My brother’s out. He’d probably take out a billboard ad with directions to where I was and how to get to me. And anyway, I won’t endanger my family.”
“Of course not. After yesterday’s rather gory communication, I placed a call to a bodyguard agency. I’d planned on filling you in at the end of our meeting.”
Adrien tried not to roll his eyes. He didn’t know why they even bothered with meetings. Harry went ahead and did whatever he wanted to do anyway.
“Can I go on record and say that I think the whole bodyguard thing is creepy? Some stranger following me around in my own home, staring at me.”
“Is that less appealing to you than being killed?”
“Listen, Mr. Spock. Could I have a tiny bit of compassion here? You might not be freaking out, but I am.” He folded his hands in his lap, attempting to get his panic under control. Harry was right. Coming unglued wouldn’t help. He just had no idea what would. “Bodyguard, huh? How many and how do we pick a trustworthy agency? I mean, what if the stalker gets to them by paying them off or…something?”
“This isn’t the plot to your last bomb at the box office and regardless, I know of a reputable agency.”
Adrien let out an aggravated sigh. “Of course you do.”
“Would you prefer I was less efficient?” Harry continued as it had no doubt been a rhetorical question anyway. “I’ll confer with them. But my suggestion would be two inside and at least four on the perimeter of your property.”
Another sarcastic retort almost burst out of him, but he knew he was being a brat. It was obvious that Harry had already gone to the trouble of finding a way to protect him, probably doing it in a manner so that he wouldn’t get overly upset.
“Harry?”
“Yes, Adrien?”
“Thank you. I’m just…” He swallowed hard past a lump in his throat.
“I know, Adrien. Trust me. I won’t let anything bad happen to you.”
****
Harrison gazed at the reflection staring back at him from his mirror. He adjusted the square shaped, solid gold and pearl studs in his royal blue Canali French cuffed dress shirt. His tie was in a pattern of diagonal stripes that consisted of the dark blue of his shirt, ice blue, then black. It was an excellent contrast to what he wore, the matching gold and pearl tie bar completing his ensemble.
He kept his dark brown hair meticulously trimmed and in a professional cut. The slightly longer strands across the top of his head were slicked back, only the barest hint of silver beginning at his temples. His exercise regime was basic, but kept him trim and healthy. His goal was a flat stomach, light muscle definition and enough strength that, on the occasions he sought out a partner, he’d have the vigor to effectively wield a crop or flogger and not experience any physical drain. It’d be a waste if he was too tired to fuck a man after reddening his flesh with an arousing beating.
Harrison banished his thoughts. The only man he’d ever loved wouldn’t likely appreciate his harsh attentions. He’d been aware for a while that Adrien found him attractive, had even picked up on his occasional attempts at flirting. But from the moment he’d sought out then signed Adrien, he’d protected his career, his reputation, and had done everything in his rather extensive power to give Adrien whatever he wanted. Jumping into bed with him would’ve been irresponsible.
Neither of them had love in their lives, but both were exceedingly rich and successful. Harrison didn’t mind loving Adrien from afar, not really. He wished for more, would give almost anything to have it, but the one thing he wouldn’t do was go against Adrien’s best interests. If keeping his hands off the stunning Adrien Fury was a part of that, then so be it.
He doesn’t have time for love or relationships.
In the beginning it’d made sense. Every resource had been needed to build a superstar career. Then the offers had come in and Adrien was so busy filming and doing promo tours, there’d been time for little else. Currently, all attention had to be placed on resurrecting the great Adrien Fury to his previously exalted status.
And keeping him safe.
Harrison sucked in a sharp breath, the pain that surged through him at the slightest thought that Adrien might be harmed being almost too much for him to bear.
No one will touch him. I’ll kill them first.
Review:
This M/M romance had some twists. The stalker part of the story was interesting and who it was! Wow. The chemistry between the characters was compelling. Kept me turning the pages to find out what happened.
Begin Again
Begin Again by Jane Henry
Things are going well for Meredith and her husband, Paolo—until a terrible car accident leaves him disabled. As he distances himself from her emotionally, Meredith finds herself increasingly seeking consolation in her fantasy world. Escaping into her erotic romance books helps keep the loneliness at bay, and awakens in her a curiosity about the Dominant/submissive lifestyle.
The day she stumbles across a website forum for real-life submissives and Dominants, her life is forever changed. These are not characters created by authors. They are real people, who are both familiar with and willing to discuss the D/s lifestyle with her. As Meredith's knowledge and understanding increase, she realizes that there is one question only she can answer—is she truly submissive, or is the fantasy better left in the pages of books?
In a last ditch attempt to discover who she really is, she agrees to pledge her obedience to an anonymous, online Dom. After all, it can't really be considered cheating if he is just a faceless entity in cyberspace, surely? The first time she's given an order, however, the scenario becomes all too real, leaving her with some serious thinking to do. Will her devotion to her online Dominant take precedence over her real, flesh and blood husband?
Will Meredith's journey of self-discovery destroy her marriage, or will she and Paolo somehow find a way to begin again?
Review:
This is my first book by Jane Henry but it won't be my last. How do you reclaim a passion that has been taken away from a marriage? How do you make someone love you again when they are so wrapped up in misery they can't see beyond their own pain? This is what Meredith is dealing with in response to her husband Paolo's injury. She misses his touch and their intimate moments-but even more the sweet considerate man she used to know. The shell of the man living in her house is only an angry, sedentary person so she retreats into her romance novels. As a married woman myself, I understand that very well. Long term relationships take work and Meredith is at her wits end. She learns about the lifestyle of domestic discipline through one of her books, and her journey begins, leading her to a chat room and some decisions that will impact her life and her marriage. Be prepared for some surprises. I loved this book!
A New Forever
Best-selling authors, Alta Hensley and Carolyn Faulkner, collaborate once again to bring you this contemporary Western tale that will leave you laughing, crying, and falling in love.
Her mother always said that people will come and go in your life, but family is forever. Elodie West, however, soon finds out the hard way that there is no such thing as forever, that the seemingly wise words of her mother are not actually true.
This is a harsh reality that Elodie's ex brother-in-law is experiencing, as well. Clay Carver is now alone, running a ranch by himself, his only solace being his monthly lunches with his ex-sister-in-law, Elodie West. Since the death of his wife and Elodie’s sister, April, all Clay has for comfort is the ranch he loves and his short visits with Elodie.
But as the years pass and their friendship progresses, Clay and Elodie begin to discover that there may be so much more to look forward to in their otherwise bleak lives. Finally, there is a light in that darkness… a bright light that leads to love, hope, a possible future. Together.
When the two find comfort in one other, is it possible to find a new beginning, or will the past get in the way? Can Clay find room in his broken heart for Elodie? And can Elodie reconcile herself with the guilt of finding happiness when her dear sister is gone? When everything they both dreamed and hoped for is lost, can Elodie and Clay find… a new forever?
**Warning: This book contains strong Domestic Discipline themes and spanking.
Review:
I loved this book from the first page. Deep and thoughtful, it brought out the conflicting emotions Elodie had for her brother in law Clay. She is grieving the death of her sister and struggles with the fact that she fell in love with him the moment she met him with April brought him home to meet the family. This story will make you laugh, cry and turn the pages long after you should be asleep. Elodie is a vulnerable woman but a prideful one and doesn't want Clay to know just how hot he makes her-even when she is starting to get clues that he may feel the same way. Hot scenes, spankings to melt your panties and character interplay that will leave you sighing. Oh yes. Get this book. It will make your heart sing.
Excerpt:
As she washed the handful of dishes, Judith lost herself in thought. When the door to the kitchen swung open, she jumped and spun around, nearly dropping the bowl in her hand. She pressed a soapy hand to her chest to still her fluttering heart and glanced up.
The silent stranger stood in the center of the room, his gaze slowly moving along the walls. It slid past her without hesitation. Judith frowned.
"You're about to drive me bloody insane," she said through gritted teeth before turning back to her task. She finished the rest of the dishes, dried them, and put them away.
He never wavered from his task. When she passed him to put the pot on the shelf, his gaze fell on her for a brief moment. Before she could even discern the color of his eyes, he turned his back to her.
"Bloody knob," Judith swore as she passed him again. His scent of leather mingling with notes of tobacco and vanilla blended with the familiar aroma of baked bread. Stopping behind him, she suppressed the urge to bury her face in his coat. Her eyes drifted closed, and she inhaled, drawing the scents deep, letting them linger.
When she opened her eyes, a pair of smoky hazel eyes stared at her. The faint shadow of a beard highlighted his jaw. His sharp features accentuated by the way his black hair slicked back into a queue.
"Fetch me some of that stew."
Judith blinked twice, unsure if she heard him correctly or not.
"You can talk. Saints above, would it hurt you to polish your manners?" She pushed past him and reached for the ladle. Her hand hovered over the spoon, and then she dropped it to her side to hide the tremor. Her heart hammered in her chest as she turned back to him and met his cool expression with a scowl.
Judith propped her hands on her hips. "Tell me where my sister is first. You can at least do that much. I deserve to know where she is and if she's even safe..." The words died on her lips as he reached into his coat pocket and withdrew a dangerous looking silver pistol.
"The stew, and bread too." He leveled the barrel at her and cocked the hammer.
Judith swallowed the scream clawing at the back of her throat. With a nod, she ladled the stew into a large bowl and cut a loaf of bread in half. The knife nearly slipped from her grip. She pinched her eyes closed for a moment, refusing to look up and see the hollow barrel pointed at her head. Once she set the meal on the counter before her, she backed away without a word and wiped her hands on her apron in an attempt to hide their trembling.
He uncocked the revolver and slid it back beneath his coat. Without another word, he picked up the food and retreated into the parlor.
When the door swung shut, Judith dropped boneless to the floor. Her heart hammered in her chest as her hands shook.
 A gun! He pointed a gun at me. She buried her face in her hands and felt the hot tears against her palms.
"Jess, what the hell have you done to me?"
Author Q&A
1. How did you start writing erotic romance?
A good friend of mine said once that my stories were "heat with a bit of sweet". I write sensual romance for one reason. Because I need to. I eat, sleep, breathe romance. It's in my blood. I crave it, so I write it. I started writing romance type stories when I was in high school. It wasn't until I graduated college and got married that I decided to pursue a career in being a romance author.
2. Plotter or pantser?
A mix of both. I like to have a basic outline of what needs to happen in each story and where the characters need to be by the end. But how they get there, I let them lead me. So I keep the scene outlines pretty general to let the characters fill in the details.
3. What are three things you have on your writing desk?
Coffee or tea. Notebook with pens. Pictures of Chris Evans and Tom Hiddleston.
4. Favorite food?
Cheesecake or Tiramisu.
5. Tell us a little about your new release. What character in the book really spoke to you?
My new series is set in Victorian England in 1896. At Winter's Demand is the second book in the Thieves of Winter Series. Jewel of Winter being the first book. They're both novella length stories sitting between 25-30,000 words. So a comfortable read but nothing too intense. Jewel of Winter is Edmund's story, but At Winter's Demand focuses on Simon's adventure.
It's quite funny that you ask who "spoke to me" in this story. Simon is an extremely strong presence in this story. But he's silent much of the time. The strong silent type, I guess you could say. Judith, his heroine, is a chatterbox who continually antagonizes not only him, but those around her. She has no filter. So their story is full of humorous moments and fantastic tension.
I don't want to give too much away, but I can say...if you haven't read Jewel of Winter. I would suggest reading it first...then At Winter's Demand. Each of the stories interweaves with the other because the timelines overlap, however each book focuses on a different couple.
6. I write because ____...
I'd die if I didn't. Seriously. I need to do it or I'll go insane and wither away.
7. What is your favorite type of character to write about?
I love sassy heroines and bold alpha males, doesn't matter the time period. Every one of my characters are independent and confident in some aspect of their lives.
8. What is the sexiest scene you ever wrote?
Edmund's scene in the study from Jewel of Winter. He's such a dominant man. Everything he does is sensual.
9. What advice would you give new authors in the erotica/romance field?
Write for yourself first and foremost. Write what you love and be true to yourself.
10. What is next on your writerly horizon?
I'm working on editing the third book in the Thieves of Winter Series, Under Winter's Control, which will be releasing around June of this year. I'm also editing my next novel, Mississippi Moonshine, which is set at the end of the prohibition era on the Mississippi River.
Not sure what projects I'll be taking on after that. I'm always on the lookout for inspiration. *wink*
Author Bio:
Stick her in the middle of a chaotic home with two children, a hyperactive dog, and a camouflage-wearing husband, and she can cook and clean with the best of them.  But when the sun goes down and the children are nestled in bed fast asleep, she tucks away her pots and broom and like Cinderella she transforms.
Her characters creep forth from the dark recesses of her mind taking their places in the castles and forests built from her words. No simpering heroines linger there with forlorn gazes turned to the horizon, waiting for their Prince Charming. They straighten their spine, arming themselves with blade and bow, prepared to do their part in defense of their honor and destiny. She breathes life into the women she believes our ancestors to be, showing how they lived and loved with passion and grace.
Never bored by the tales still left to tell, she battles the ever-sarcastic muse in her quest for romance.
Excerpt:
It was dark outside, grown late, and I hadn’t eaten dinner yet. Somewhere out there, Philip was probably dining with crystal and expensive wine. Meanwhile I’d probably order a pizza with one of those coupons by the door. A low sound raised the hair on my neck. Oh God, I’m not alone. My gaze swept over the small dorm room. From here I could see the tiny bedroom area and the kitchenette. I could see almost the entire space. Empty. Maybe it was just one of my neighbors getting busy and— The sound came again, louder. A shiver ran through me. It was coming from outside the room, but not from either side. It was coming from the door. I crept over and looked out the peephole. An empty hallway bulged in the distorted lens. Now I was doubting myself. Had I actually heard something? Maybe it had come from the dorm room across the hall. When I first moved here, it had been shortly after my “ordeal,” as my adoptive mother called it. I had jumped at every sound, both real and imagined, more traumatized by my brush with danger than I’d wanted to admit. My gaze snapped to my phone. I could call my adoptive mother right now, but I knew she wouldn’t want to be bothered. I could call the building management, but I knew what would happen. The same thing that had happened last time I called them. They’d send my floor advisor to check on me. If there was anything scary in this hallway, she’d have to face it first. And if there wasn’t anything scary, if it was my imagination again, the PTSD I didn’t want to acknowledge, well then everyone would know how fucked up I was inside. No, I had to be overreacting. This was nothing. There was no one in the hallway. And even if there was, it would be some drunk guy, passed out on the wrong floor. I’m a normal college student, I reminded myself. I’m not afraid of anything. Both of those things were lies, I was neither normal nor brave, but at least I could send a drunk frat boy on his way. I opened the door a crack. Nothing. Relief filled me, and I opened the door wider. A body slid inside, slumped over without the door to support him. A short scream escaped me before I caught myself. He was wearing a three-piece suit stained with blood, his expression slack, eyes glassy with pain and delirium. Philip. Oh God, he was hurt. Really badly hurt if he couldn’t stand up. Horribly hurt if he’d ever have come to me of all people. I didn’t have time to process the shock of it, of seeing him again. I had to get him out of sight. If he’d been injured like this, someone was after him. Someone would want to finish the job.
Book Description:
Sometimes the moon shines brighter than the stage.
Connor ‘CJ’ Lamont is at the top of his game playing the bad boy of country music. The problem with his ultimate redneck persona is that… well, he’s not. CJ is a wickedly smart songwriter and musician who suffers from an excess of personality. He lives, not for the spotlight, but for the three months of downtime each year when he can finally be himself.
Sexy werewolf Lee Mills is hired as CJ’s new security to keep him safe and assure that he stays on the medication he’s been on since birth. But when Connor’s parents see sparks fly between their son and his new security guard, they are intent on keeping the wolf at bay. Of course, Mills isn’t used to taking orders, at least not from anyone who isn’t his pack alpha, and he has no intention of following the rules.
In fact, if Mills has his way, he’ll be smashing the spotlight and showing Connor the moon.
Excerpt:
Connor did his market shopping—shrimp, rum cake, and root veggies and those neat little brown sugar candy deals—before heading out to the beach house. It sat there like a faded jewel, the turquoise paint beaten down by the sun. It was little, simple, nowhere a famous asshole would live.
Connor loved it.
All he had to do was eat and swim and lounge in the sun. Oh, he had his guitar and in a few days the itch to write would be on him. For now, though, he wanted fruit. Rum.
He dumped the food in the fridge, poured himself a piña colada and headed out to his chair to soak up some sunshine.
Connor stopped short when he saw the long, well-muscled man who was stretched out on a tiny air mattress across from his lounger. “Hope you got enough food for two people,” the guy said, sitting up and running a hand through a shock of dark brown hair.
“This is private property, dude. It’s posted.” Connor wasn’t stupid. He knew this was security man, but he wasn’t fucking at work.
“I know. Not a bad setup. I can work with it without losing any of your aesthetic.”
He turned without a word and went back inside, locking the door behind him. He could call the police, but that seemed less than fair. This guy was working, doing his job. He could give it a day or two, see if the guy gave up. He could find another place, maybe another beach.
Christ.
He just wanted a break.
The door opened seconds later. “Nathan gave me a key. Look, I’m not here to make your life shit. In fact, I’ve gone over all the scenarios and decided not to hire a team like they want me to. As far as anyone knows, I’m a buddy of yours down on vacay with you. Hence the beach get-up.”
Connor glanced at Mr. Security again, who looked like something out of the International Male catalog in a pair of soft linen pants and nothing else. His accent, though, that was pure Deep South.
“I didn’t hire you. Just go home, tell my mom I’m fine, and collect your paycheck, man. I won’t tell anyone.”
“Yeah, and if you got shot or messed up or something, I would never work again.” The guy stepped up into his personal space and thrust a hand at him. “Mills.”
He shook instinctively, then pulled away. Nathan wasn’t his buddy anymore. In fact, he hoped Nathan’s retirement sucked. Okay. Connor was going to his bedroom and then he was going to create a plan that didn’t involve having a babysitter.
He was a smart dog. He could do this.
 Review:
This book was a great foray into MM romance. It kept my interest as Nathan fell for Connor and helped him out of his shell. Hot and copious sexy scenes, shifter action and more await the reader on this journey. I want to go hang with Mama Cherry and listen to some music after this one. Awesome read.
